Author's note: Sorry it's taken so long, I have no time to write anymore so it will take forever. Also I am running low on plot ideas I just have brief ideas. If you have any idea's just let me know.

Simon looked at his sister in shock. “What do you mean ‘they found her’? Who found Kaylee? Why didn’t you say something sooner!?!” Simon’s concern started to grow.

“I did, you just chose not to listen.” River walked past him and back to her room. Simon was getting more upset with his sister everyday. He used to know everything she was talking about. But now, he very rarely knew. He couldn’t focus on that right now. He had more important things to worry about. Kaylee. Who had his sweet Kaylee and why?

Simon started running to the bridge, to find Wash, Book, Mal, someone, anyone. When he got to the bridge everyone was there except for River. “Simon, have you heard?” Inara looked at him, tears starting to well up in her eyes.

“Do we know anything about what happened to Kaylee?” Simon asked trying to control all of his emotions. He was relieved that he wasn’t the one to have to announce that the cheerful mechanic had been kidnapped. However, he was also worried and angry with himself. If anything happened to her, he wouldn’t be able to forgive himself.

“’bout ten minutes ago, someone used Kaylee’s radio and said they’d send us a wave in fifteen,” Mal said matter-of-factly trying to not show the concern he felt. Simon started to get more concerned as to who would do this.

“You don’t think that whoever did this is trying to make a trade for River and I do you?” Simon started to choke up at the thought that something might happen to Kaylee because of him.

“Probably, I told ya we shoulda got rid o’ the doc and his moon-brain sister long time ago. Now someone done got lil’ Kaylee.”

Simon couldn’t take it anymore. It was bad enough for him to thing he had caused this, but for Jayne to say it, that was a whole different matter. Simon paced over to where Jayne was standing and punched him in the jaw. Jayne hit the side of the firefly with a loud crash. Jayne had a look of surprise, anger and joy on his face all at once.

“Gorram it doc! That’s it, I’m gonna kick your fancified ass!”

“Oh God, everyone duck!” Wash hid behind his dinosaurs.

Just then, the wave started to come through.

“Saved by the bell!” Wash said receiving many groans from the rest of the crew.

“Simon, not that I feel that punching Jayne was a bad idea, I don’t believe that now was the opportune moment to do so.” Inara said, trying to hide a smile.

“I can handle myself.” Simon shrugged off Inara’s concern and watched the cortex screen. “Anyways, we will deal with that later. Right now, we have to find out who has Kaylee,” Simon said trying to not let his emotions rise to the surface. He was less angry now and happier since he hit Jayne. Maybe there was something to Mal, Zoe, and Jayne’s theory on beating people bringing fun.

“Simon, before I answer the wave, I need you to stand over there out of sight of the screen incase they are looking for you and River,” Mal said with a small smile. Mal had been waiting for the doc to finally be fed up with Jayne.

“Ah, Captain Reynolds. Oh, and Inara Serra. Nice to see you both again.”

“Atherton Wing. What the hell are you playing at?” Mal’s anger started to rise. He tried to remain calm, but it wasn’t working.

“One of my associates found something of yours today near the Eavesdown docks. I am willing to make a deal with you and Ms. Serra.”

”And just who might this associate of yours be, Ath?” Mal watched with pleasure as Atherton flinched at the nickname Mal had given him at their previous meeting.

“Hey Cap.”

“Bester!” Mal’s eyes were wide with shock. The last time he had seen Bester, he was standing yelling threats as Serenity left him back on Kaylee’s home world.

“Yup. You, that pretty companion of yours, and ONE crew member came to Atherton’s place in three hours and we’ll talk.”

“If you don’t show, who knows what may happen to that cute little mechanic of yours,” Atherton said with a hint of satisfaction. Simon tensed up with concern of what men like this may do to his Kaylee.

“How do we even know you have her, Ath?” Mal turned in shock after Inara said this. The last person he expected to hear use that name was her.

“Oh, would you like to see her bao bai?”

“You gave up your right to call me that along time ago Atherton,” Inara stated coldly, trying to regain her composure. The last thing she wanted to do was make Atherton angrier when he had Kaylee. She had no idea what he was capable of.

Next thing they saw on the screen was Kaylee’s form tied up in a chair. A few bruises on her arms and one large one on her jaw, obviously where she had been knocked unconscious to be taken away. Inara gasped at the horror she saw in front of her. Simon used all the power in him to not jump through the wave screen and kill this man himself. Kaylee’s eyes reopened for a minute before the screen went back to Atherton and Bester.

“Ok Ath, you’ve done gone and proved your point. We’ll be there in three hours. And if I see one more bruise, cut or any other injury on her more than I see now, we’re gonna have a repeat of last time you and I parted, however, this time, I ain’t gonna be so merciful.” The anger radiated as Mal issued this last threat before turning the wave off.

“Ok here’s the plan, Inara, you and I are gonna take the unoccupied shuttle. Zoe, you ain’t coming this time. He’s already got Kaylee, Inara’s going, I don’t want anymore o’ my girls in there. Wash you’re staying too ‘cause you gotta have the ship ready…”

“I’m going with you and Inara, Mal.” The entire crew turned to look at Simon. “It is my fault, River said I should have gone with her today and I told her I wouldn’t let anything happen to her. I’m going.” The way Simon said this, Mal knew it was not a request. He had never seen the doc look so serious.

“Ok, so the doc is gonna come with us. Jayne don’t object, Ath is gonna have snipers in trees on his property, guaranteed. It’s time for you to pull some thrilling heroics getting them outta position. Let’s get to work people, we only got three hours.”

Everyone started to exit the bridge.

“Book?” Simon called.

“Yes my boy?”

“I was wondering if you could…”

”Yes, I’ll take care of River for you.”

“Thank you. Also I was wondering if I make a quick list could you get some supplies set up for me in the infirmary. I have a feeling I will have to take care of injuries when we get back.”

“Yes, don’t worry about it. Everything will be set up when you get back.”

”Hey doc!”

Oh great here it comes. “What Jayne? I don’t have the time for this right now. I need to focus on more important things, like bringing Kaylee back,” Simon said. Jayne had never seen this much concern in his face. Not that he cared about Simon, but he did care about Kaylee.

“Exactly the plan, follow me.”

Simon was a little cautious following Jayne into his bunk, no would be able to here him yell.

THWACK! Simon was on the floor after being sucker punched by Jayne.

“Ok now that I hit ya back, I think we’re even now. So doc, what kinda weapon you gonna take to go rescue lil’ Kaylee?”

”I have a 9mm that I was going to use.”

“Not good enough. Take your 9mm, but only use it as a last resort. It won’t do much. Take a couple o’ my girls.

“Thank you, Jayne. But, why are you doing this?”

Jayne paused for a moment. “Kaylee is like a little sister to me, as much as I hate to admit it. That’s why I give her such a hard time. You just make sure she gets back safe.” *
