Author's note: So I said that I was only gonna write one more part to this...well I lied *headdesk* It sort of got away from me. Anywhere, here's the story.

“Jayne, what happened?” Kaylee asked frantically. Her fingers worked nimbly at undoing the multitude of buttons that held the shirt closed. Most of them were mismatched like they had been done up in a hurry. Under any other circumstance Kaylee might have thought the disheveled look was endearing on Jayne. “Jayne stay with me,” she pleaded.

“Aw babygirl…ain’t even the honeymoon an’ already yer tryin’ t’get my clothes off,” Jayne slurred dreamily. He reached up to take her hand, but instead it fell to his side as his eyes closed and his breathing became shallower. Kaylee looked up at the captain who mirrored her worried expression.

“He’s going into shock,” Simon announced as he hurried down the hallway and dropped next to Jayne on the floor. His fingers went to the mercenary’s wrist, taking his pulse and checking his vitals as best he could without any equipment. “He has a strong heartbeat.”

“Didn’t no one see him board Serenity?” Kaylee wondered aloud. It didn’t make sense how a bloodied Jayne could make it five steps into the boat without someone noticing him, let alone all the way back to the engine room.

“No one was around. Zoe and Inara left to try looking for him in town again and I was with River who is asleep now. She was having an episode and I gave her a smoother to calm her down,” Simon said.

“Think she felt Jayne bein’ hurt or somethin’?” Kaylee asked quietly as she got the last of the buttons undone.

“Maybe,” Simon said. Pulling the shirt open, both Kaylee and Simon stared down in shock.

“He ain’t got a gorram scratch on him!” Mal shouted. Kaylee’s eyes were wide for a long moment, trying to take in everything she was seeing.

“He’s not in shock. He must have been drugged,” Simon declared.

“But all this blood…” Kaylee whimpered.

“It’s not his blood,” Mal shook his head.

“Then whose blood is it?” Kaylee demanded to know.

“That’s the question, mei mei,” Mal said, taking her arm to pull her to her feet. Kaylee stopped him, her hands moving to Jayne’s chest her fingers pausing over small, red circles over his chest.

“Cap’n?”

“Yeah?”

“These marks look an awful lot like the ones you and Wash got when you came back from Niska’s skyplex,” Kaylee swallowed.

“She’s right,” Simon agreed. “It’s not conclusive proof that Niska was the one who drugged Jayne, but it certainly noteworthy.”

“How long you think it would take for a man big as Jayne t’be brought down by a tranquilize?” Mal asked, crossing his arms over his chest and studying the mercenary.

“When I drugged Jayne it took about a half an hour for it to take effect, I was conservative in my dosage though. Jayne is a large man, but it would really depend on how large the dose was,” Simon said.

“Whoever done this is either all over Jayne’s shirt right now, or he ain’t far behind. Either way, think it’s time we called in everyone and got off this rock. Kaylee, get on the comm., call Inara and Zoe back. Simon you get your sister up. We’re taking off just as soon as they get back,” Mal ordered. Kaylee leaned down and pressed her lips to Jayne’s forehead before standing up and running off for the bridge. Simon left for the passenger dorms to try and get River up, leaving Mal with Jayne.

The captain leaned down next to his merc, looking him over for a moment before shaking his head. “Sure wish you were awake t’tell us what kind of trouble we’re in.”
