It's a sound test. Post BDM, but no backstory, no exposition. No names. Just to sound out the characters. See if they feel true.

(Mal is in pilot's seat, River in Copilot's seat. Jayne and Simon hovering back on the bridge, Kaylee in the engine room. Zoe and Inara somewhere else.)

Red or blue? Red Or blue?

Kaylee! We need options. Mashong!

I'm on it Captain.

Red. Reavers. Rage. ANGER HUNGER.

Keep us steady. This boat breaks, you broke it!

Blue. Open. Wide. Cold. Hands of Blue. They cut into me, remove things they have no rights to stick needles into my eyes ask what I see.

Captain I think I should sedate her.

Gorram it doc I need my copilot. We have a situation here.

But River. She is having an episode. I need to help h-

Jayne, I need you to clear the bridge.

On it, Mal.

But River -

She'll be fine. Just a mite apprehensive.

Apprehen-

Nobody wants to get ate. It's totally understandable. We'll be fine as long as you keep the sedatives out of her.

We go swimming in the ocean. Just like fish.

River, I told you. No swimming.. We are not going Underwater, Dongma?

Water is Peaceful. Safe. like fish. swimming where they cannot go.

You seen the state of my ship? Be more like sitting ducks. Just get it level. Kaylee?!

Two by two, do we go to the blue?

I don't wanna be a rutting snack!

Ship's Ready!

(Mal flicks the obligatory three switches, puts hand on lever to the right)

River darling, always bet on The Black.

(Serenity goes to full burn and arches up out of the atmosphere, fades to black)

Ok, my first piece on here. Nice simple post BDM snippet which may or may not be used with exposition, names and story in a larger piece.

As I said, it's a sound check. Admittedly some extra words were sprinkled to give the scene some sanity. (probably too much)

Not a bad little sound check you got here, nbz. Though I would point out that getting the characters to work right on the page takes more than a simple test. Gotta have plot and emotion and cracking dialogue...everything Joss & co. gave us...to ensure things go smoothly;)

Gotta learn to crawl before I attempt to walk!

S far alot of fanfic has been carrying me. Now it's my turn to crawl.

I have a (I think) good story to tell. Just can't seem to transfer it from my mind onto paper too successfully yet.

I'll get better.

Plot and emotion will no doubt turn up at some stage.

and yes, this post is puntastic.
