MacGuffin, is a plot device, most of the times used in heist movies...as the item or items that are stolen to move the story on. (Bear in mind I'm using the heist movie as an example)...Think about the movie "Entrapment". Does it matter what they were stealing? And, in the episode "Jaynestown" they take the MacGuffin to new heights...They show what's being taken, but, they never explain what it is. "The goods". But, whatever they were stealing or taking in Jaynestown had no bearing on the story whatsoever. That's a MacGuffin.
