Author's note: This is just a 150 word vignette originally written in response to a Firefly Fridays challenge (#10: a piece from the perspective of a minor character). Afterwards I discovered you have to be a LiveJournal member to post there, and that costs money. So I just decided to post here, where others must endure my fic without monetary compensation. Hope y'all don't mind.

OPEN AND SHUT

It hadn't been hard to track Tam down. Pretty, fancy boy like that stuck out like a sore thumb in these parts. Heck, that wide-eyed little mechanic been so caught up gaping at the doctor, she couldn't even remember the name of the plainer, older 'businessman' long enough to welcome him aboard. But that was just fine. After all, it was his job to blend into the background. The independent captain had been unexpected, but that might just work out to his advantage. After all, the man had tangled with the Alliance and paid the price. Doubt he'd be too eager to try again. The display at dinner had proved his protectiveness of his crew. He wouldn't do anything to jeopardize them or the so-called 'medical supplies' in his hull. No, he didn't foresee any trouble from that quarter. Nor the rich dandy, either. This, Dobson thought to himself, was going to be an open and shut case.
