The Dancer
Tuesday, January 22, 2008

Ok. First one of these in about a year. I got stuck on that line of River's in the Tam Sessions. "Would I still be allowed to dance?" And the piece came from that.

As to details, I thought the pick just looked best on some kind of view screen and I love the shape of the screen on Serenity. The screen was taken from a sceen in the movie so the writing on it has nothing to do with the pictures. the details and quality are not quite up to what's in my head but that's because I still haven't bought a photoshop program. Still just Picture It!

Extremely shiny work! It excels in originality and execution. And the resourcefulness with which you handled the inherently grainy stuff from the River Tam sessions is really downright brilliant: instead of trying to mask it, you actually use it. :) You're a true artist, and your presence in the BSR remains a true privilege and boon to us all!

That's fantastic! The only concrit I'd have would be that I'd like it a bit more if the text was like TV-static-y & in the screen above her head or something. But no matter, cuz this ROCKS!!

Actually, I have issues with the text as well. I just couldn't quite get it right. That's a decent suggestion. I'll give it a try.

Well, I like it plenty "as is". :) Sure, you could remove the chinese text above the image, and then just do a gray/blue text inside the screen (bottom). Actually, going for cute, you could even go to Babelfish and translate that text into Chinese. :) There's all sorts of possibilities, of course. But the main concept remains perfect the way you did it. It's still the best use of a River Tam Sessions image I've ever seen. Highly artistic, too.

Hey, I actually just noticed now how those two poses, one fighting, one dancing, are very similar. :) You have an excellent eye for these things!

Sorry for the many comments, Kayna; but it seems you had already prepared a gray bar at the bottom of the TV sceen; were you initially planning on putting that blue text on that? I can see how you did not do that, for symmetry reasons (both blue texts are now outside of the TV screen). But if you removed the blue chinese text on top, and put the other blue text inside the screen (on that gray bar thingy; and perhaps a point or so smaller), there would not be a problem with symmetry, I think.

Ennyhows, it's really a grand work already in its current incarnation. I loved it the first time, and am by no means done loving it yet. :)

*bump*

Oh right, no, hat doesn't work here. :) Still, beautiful and lovely River piece. Please, do more!

Hey Asarian, I know this is years late to reply but I'm glad you caught the similarity of poses between the two shots. That was indeed deliberate. I hope to be able to get some new stuff up here eventually. I still don't have photoshop though and Gimp is rather inscrutable.

Lana Whyn
Another caracter for my Serenity game. Lana's parents were a most unusual pairing. Her dad was a rim world law man and rancher who died in the war, fighting for the Inependants. Her mother was a highly respected Companion who stunned everyone when she left the guild to marry him. Now she's a brilliant young doctor who (despite her core world degree) operates exclusively on the rim. She's idealistic but not stupid. *not* I love comments and constructive criticisms so post away.

Kat Kallsan
This is a chracter for a Serenity RPG that I plan on running. A friend came up with her and I drew her. I kind of like how she came out.
Kat is a rich runnaway from a powerful core family. She picked up a lot of rough habits mostly to aggrivater her parents and she's an ace pilot. She's also a cockey little wench who is blackmailing her parents so as to not become poor. *note* I love comments and advice. Post away please.

CONvergence 4
And to go with my previous post, Wash's dinos and Kaylee's room sign.

CONvergence 3
Here we have a few shiny folk that I met at CON. They might look familiar.

Convergence part 2
Okay, so I went to a con in Minneapolis a month ago and only just got pics of the trip from my friend (I really need my own camera). While there were no BDHs there, there was some fun browncoatyness to be found.

And here we have the banner outside hte Firefly room party we found.

Next post will include pics of the shiny people to be found inside!

First up is a pair of pics of me in browncoat gear. No character, just me in the verse.

I Can See You
Slight repost. The original was only up for a few hours so most of you won't have seen it but I had to fix it. ANyway...
Lookit that! I drew something! It's been a while. I've been really into the Tam Sessions lately and I thought they might provide good images for charcoal drawings. Here's the result. I hope you like it. Comments and critiques are always welcome.

Lost Toys
I haven't done one of these in a while. I still only have Picture It but I like how it came out anyway.

Serenity logo: hand drawn
I'm so proud of this thing. I just spent about 3 hrs making a godaweful mess with my soft pastels to make it. If you're wondering why I went to all that trouble when I could have just printed it out, I'm planing on using it for a background fo a project in my drawing class.
