Although it could never compare to some of the fine works of art here, here it is: I'm working on my photoshopping, and I knew I had to make this picture - The Academy, planning what sort of "adjustments" River needs. External console is a screenshot from Serenity, and River's pic is from the 416 sessions, smoothed and retouched manually. Do ya'll like it?

Owww. Just noticed Kayna's post. Session 416 in the air today?

Wow! great artists inspire each other, it seems! :)

Exceptionally well done! How you managed to create such a cleaned-up, crisp image of the River Tam Sessions is the subject of much musing between me and my mind! The angle of the text is perfect, too. And the blending is superb!

Kay? Do you know that girl? I really don't! (Assuming you're girl folk, of course; lol) Like to see more from you, though! You oughta get a price for 'best-first-work-in-BSR'. :) Very shiny!

I tried answering before, so this might be a double post...
Thanks for the great feedback! I'll try this out in point form:
1) R. Tam sessions image was a bit tricky, but if you'd like some in-depth explanation I'd be happy to go over it.
2) The text, perspective, and brackets around the text were all carefully constructed to match, even using a little blur on them so they didn't look "perfect"
3) I'm afraid I don't know Kay, unfortunately.
4) To borrow the appropriate quote: "Well Kaj ain't a girl" ;)
5) I'm sad to admit, this isn't my first go in the BSR, although my last 2 attempts were a while back, and I hadn't done much since.

I also have to say I'm much happier with the blending in this image than in my previous attempts. It was a fun challenge to bite into.
Oh, and a bit of trivia: It's the same console the Operative watches the Maidenhead bar footage on.
Thanks again for the encouraging feedback, it gives great satisfaction.

Well, girl or no, the work remains great, indeed! :)

That ID nr, did you get that from the BDM data-pad prop? It looks very familiar. I love details like that!

Yes, if you're up to it, you could explain a bit how you did the River Tam Sessions image and such. :) I'd also love to hear what perspective filter you used; mine is an older Andromeda Perspective plug-in, which is kinda crappy. You could expound on it here, or in the Blue Sun Room section of the board (with a link to it, here); in there, you can insert images; here, sadly, you cannot. Up to you, of course.

Suffice to say I'm very impressed. :)

Alas, the number is straight out of my head, since i couldn't remember where I had seen an ID number for River.
The perspective manipulator was actually the normal Photoshop CS2 perspective transform function. I used that to bent the image and text until the marker lines on the perspective manipulator were parallel with the edges of the console. It's 3am here though, so the Tam session demo will have to wait 'till tomorrow.

Nice. Next time there is a episode of firefly, that should fit in nicely. Or if someone were to make a fanfilm

Firefly-esque gun prop
Here's my attempt at a sort of Firefly-esque gun. It started life as a Daisy airgun, but after it's death it was repainted and aged. The "cooling fins" on the receiver are black acrylic, the gold is spray lacquer and the barrel is black satin enamel. It's a bit of a work in progress, but it's a fun project!

River's Ident Card
Using the headshot of River from the end of "The Train Job", I made this. The SCN is the same format as Zoe's in the scene cut from the pilot, and I used the date of Summer's Birthday for DOB :) Font is "Bionic Kid" - the same font used on the Alliance "Research and Rescue" ships. Again, any feedback is appreciated

Damaged
This started as a project to reproduce the photo of River from the end of "The Train Job". Using screenshots and photoshop I managed to remove the distortion and produce a head-on shot. Then, I printed the result onto non-inkjet clear plastic, causing the dye to form into small droplets. Then I printed the image onto normal photo paper, which I then treated with water, vinegar and a heavy application of heat with a clothes iron. The heat caused a large portion of ink and coating to come off. Then I combined the two and photographed it. If there is real demand I could scan it at a higher resolution, or provide the source image as it stands. This is the first time I've experimented with physical manipulation, so comments are appreciated!
