"There's a saying old, says that love is blind Still we're often told "Seek and you shall find"" - from an old song that made me write this little fic. More questions than answers...

Disclaimer: I do not own them, Joss does. I am not allowed to use them, I do it anyway. This is a piece of non profit fanfiction and there are no copyright infringements intended. I don't get any money out of this so please don't sue. Neither do I own the song "Someone To Watch Over Me" by Ella Fitzgerald. Note: I wrote this story as a Star Trek fic many years ago. When I started reading firefics I couldn’t help it – I HAD to re-write this little fic…
Title: Someone to watch over me By CHris Rated: G Written 17/02/2008
There's a saying old, says that love is blind Still we're often told "Seek and you shall find"
She looked at him when she thought he didn't realize. She tried to imagine his skin under her fingers and how it would feel to touch his muscular body. To run her fingers through his wonderful brown. To slowly undress him and explore his body.
So I'm going to seek a certain lad I've had in mind. Looking everywhere, haven't found him yet, He's a big affair I cannot forget.
But would he ever truly return her feelings? What would the crew say? Was a captain allowed to have an affair or a liaison with a another crewmember? Were captains allowed to be happy? Would she still long for him when he was hers? Would those feelings allow her to continue to do her job properly? Would she still be a good companion? Or would her feelings for Mal make doing the job impossible?
Only man I ever think of with regret. I'd like to add his initial to my monogram.
Would they get married? Would she change her name? Would her whole life change? Would she live with him in his bunk or would he move into her shuttle? What would he do if she had to leave the ship to meet someone? Would he allow her to still do her job or would he turn out to be jealous?
Tell me where is the shepherd for this lost lamb? There's a somebody I'm longing to see.
He turned his head and smiled at her. Was it love she was feeling in her heart whenever he smiled? Was it longing? Or simply a childish emotion she thought to be love? Love like she had felt towards her mom and dad? Love like she felt towards Kaylee? Or her love for the crew? The ship? It was different but it felt like love. I hope that he Turns out to be, Someone who'll watch over me.
She smiled back and turned away from him so he didn't see her cheeks blush. She longed for him. Wanted her near him. Wanted to feel him wrap his arms around her. Wanted to wrap her arms around him and hold him close. But they were in the dining room. But would she dare if they were alone? She wouldn't she was sure.
I'm a little lamb who's lost in the wood. I know I could Always be good To one who'll watch over me.
She would wait for him to do the first step like it used to be once upon a time when men had to ask the girl's father if he were allowed to marry his daughter. Back in the 19th century and earlier. But they were in the 25th century and if she didn't ask she would never know. He couldn't say more than no…
Although he may not be the man some Girls think of as handsome, To my heart he carries the key.
But what if he really said no? Would her heart explode? What would she do? Go to her shuttle and cry? Hit him? Beg him to rethink his decision? Make him love her or threaten to leave the ship otherwise? Or despair? Jump out the next spaceport? Leave the ship? Could she live with a rejection? If one never asked one can never be disappointed?
Won't you tell him please To put on some speed, Follow my lead.
She didn't dare. She was afraid. Afraid of what? Of her own courage? Afraid of the shadows lurking behind the corners? This was ridiculous. He wouldn't rip her head off and he couldn't say more than no. But he would say yes. He had to say yes judging by the way he usually looked at her.
Oh, how I need Someone to watch over me.
She turned in her seat and looked at him. "Mal?"
