Another winter project to stave off space dementia. Botched a few bits during construction so I used it as a paint test.

Put your trust in VARI-THRUST
Chambered in the popular .375 HV caliber the Vari-Thrust II is a great traveling companion out on the frontier. It features a proprietary system of valves and ports which allow the user to “dial back” the power of the .375 cartridge to suit the situation.

Dialed all the way down most of the propellant gas is vented to atmosphere, dropping velocity to approximately 250mps (depending on load). Right handy for keeping a jackrabbit intact vs. becoming a cloud of pink mist. Five clicks step up to full power, approximately 525mps, suitable for close encounters of the disagreeable kind such as Reavers and other two-legged varmints.

Serenity: The Movie Version
A couple months, a couple hundred hours, and a couple THOUSAND pieces later she still ain't right. Maybe by next winter I'll get her figgered out.

ISV CERBERUS
Needed a project to keep from tragic space dementia during the big freeze-up, so opted to build another boat.

Materials include paper, card stock, shirt cardboard, buttons, and a coat hanger. Tried some old/new techniques on this one. Plastic wood works dandy for building up large areas like the galley dome and reactor tail section to make 'em round. Talcum powder and Elmer's glue make a fine grit putty to fill in divits and smooth out lines. Both are sandable.

Wish I'd made her bigger as the shirt cardboard doesn't like small radii. My thanks to Jorge Garcia Serrato for his awesome paper model of Serenity which is the base of this model.

Big Damn Hero Gun #5
Several attempts after my P.O.S. Callahan MK1 this is what I got. Still a bit heavy at 3# 2oz. but a good deal closer to what I had in mind. Gave up on ring caps, too hard to fab the little posts they sit on, and have returned to roll caps glued on to dummy cartridges. The button above the trigger will eventually hold a safety lever, if I can ever design one that doesn't work loose after playing with it a bit. LOL

Bad News For Alliance Grunts
Have been re-reading Hotpoint's series and thought to re-post a pic with some touch-ups.

Big Damn Hero Gun: Part 3
The Callahan Mk.1, all dressed up and waitin' to go somewhere fun. The brass bits up front really screw up the balance, but I can still twirl it. If'n I do this again it'll be made from much lighter materials. At 3# 7oz she's a bit heavy for my taste.

Big Damn Hero Gun: Part2
Goin' for a "future antique" look to it using brass vs. aluminum for the add-ons. Not quite done, but fairly pleased with the adjustable gas regulator. Need some bits for the other side though.

Big Damn Hero Gun
After I got my FF Companion V.2 I got a powerful hankerin' for my very own Big Dam Hero gun. Blame it on Jayne's Le Mat, I guess.
The original plan was to buy a Civil War era black powder piece and do a treatment on it like Mal's. The Spiller & Burr was perfect: shiny brass frame and octagon barrel. But, the more research I did the more it occurred to me I could prolly build one. How hard could it be? A whole lot gorram tougher than I thunk.
Anyways, she ain't purty like Mal's, nor as ugly as Jayne's. She walks, talks, cocks and locks (most of the time), but don't go bang. Still workin' on the futuristic add-on bits.

A new boat...yada yada yada
