Simon and Jayne finished their beers and left the saloon heading for the doctor's office.
"You got your list?" Jayne asked. He knew Simon would be pissy if they got back to the boat and he forgotten something.
"Yes," Simon answered sharply. "Sorry Jayne. I'm not so worried that I'll forget something."
"We's all worried," Jayne commented as he opened the door to the doctor's office.
Simon stopped for a moment then continued into the office.
The doctor Simon spoke to was an older man and couldn't really spare much. But he was willing to help with Simon's list.
Mal went back on board Serenity and he could hear a trace of laughter drifting towards him as he headed for the galley. He shivered a bit after hanging up his browncoat and taking off his gloves and scarf.
The laughter stopped when the women watched him head for the coffee pot.
"Ladies," Mal said grabbing a cup, pouring some coffee then heading for a seat at the table. "No need to stop talking on my account."
"I'm going to the bridge," Zoe said getting up.
When Zoe was gone Mal asked, "What'd I do?"
"Nothing dear," Inara said with a smile. "It was just women talk."
"Oh," Mal said as he noticed Inara's smile falter a bit. "How's the baby?"
"Baby's doing kung fu," Inara said.
Mal got nervous. "That don't sound good," he said with his cup halfway to his mouth.
"Simon said it's normal," Inara said reassuring Mal with a small pat on his hand.
Jayne watched Simon's hand hover the smoothers. Other supplies were on a table in the back.
"You sure?" Jayne asked.
"Always better to be safe than sorry," Simon said though he hoped Inara wouldn't need them. He didn't like the idea of administering them to a pregnant woman.
Simon picked up two small vials and went back to the table.
Kaylee and River left town before taking the mule because of their packages.
Simon and Jayne got back to Serenity closer to suppertime being on foot.
They stomped the snow off their boots and shook it off their coats before going in. Simon headed to the infirmary with his supplies and Jayne went to his bunk with the ammo he had stopped and got.
When they sat down to supper, Simon noticed Inara trying to get comfortable on her chair. He also saw that she was looking around the table.
"Did you have a good time in town mei mei?" Mal asked Kaylee.
"Oh yes. The couple of stores there had all kinds of baby stuff," Kaylee said happily.
"That's why we had to walk back," Jayne grumbled.
"Couldn't carry everything and no room for je-je or you," River added.
"Nice," Jayne muttered before turning back to his real food.
Kaylee had done up a nice stir fry with beef and rice with extra onions on the side, which Jayne liked.
Simon was going to speak to Inara about what he was observing and she shook her head no.
