I wrote both parts a while ago, I just wanted to see if anyone would read it- it’s my first fanfic, so I’m kind of testing the water. If people want more, I’ll keep writing!

Part Two

After the authorities had Mal, Zoe and Jayne surrounded, George stepped up onto the ship, a proud smile on his wrinkled face. “Well, ‘Captain’, I suppose you’re here for the cargo.” “I suppose so, mister-” “Well now, you didn’t tell me your real name, why should I tell ya mine?” Mal looked him in the eyes and spoke real careful so the white-haired man would understand. “My name is Malcolm Reynolds, and this is my ship, Serenity- I’m just here to haul some cargo. That there’s the truth.” Zoe was staring coldly at George, studying his face. Jayne was occupied wrinkling his nose at the overwhelming odor of fish. “Well now, cap’n, you thought you had me fooled. Come in a day early, afore the REAL Serenity, steal its cargo out from under ever’body, and run like the wind. You can’t fool me, cap’n. No, sir.” George let out a long cackle, and nodded to the gunmen to take their prisoners away. “Now hold on just a minute! I don’t know how you all do business here on Poseidon, but I run decent business, and I don’t steal cargo from nobody. What are you talking about, the REAL Serenity?” “The REAL Serenity just left not an hour ago, and beat you afore you could cheat them. You imposters tried yer best, but I guess ya weren’t a match for them!” Zoe shut her eyes a moment, thinking hard, then replied to the white-haired man’s ramblings. “So, another ship came here claiming to be Serenity, and took our cargo? They came a day early, too?” The proud look on George’s face fell into one of confusion, as he rethought his logic. “Well, I guess if ya both came a day early, ya could both be imposters. Or y’all could be the REAL Serenity. You got some papers or somethin’?” Mal rolled his eyes as he slowly grabbed some papers out of his coat pocket.

River slowly opened the door to Simon’s room, which was dark and silent. She waited a moment, only her fingers and head showing in the doorway, watching him sleep, before she spoke out loud. “Simon, it’s very Early.” Simon jumped, startled by River’s intrusion into his sleep. He rolled over and found a comfortable position. “River, I know. Just- go back to bed.” River stepped fully in the doorway, and flipped on the lights in the room, making Simon roll over again, his back towards the light. “Simon, I can’t marry you anymore. Someone already married me.” This piqued Simon’s interest, and he sat up to look at her. “River, are you feeling okay? Any nausea or dizziness?” He reached for a syringe on his shelf, and started to prepare to medicate River. “Simon, they’re trying to take me away. They’re taking us all away- we got married, Simon!” Simon hurried over to River and injected the green liquid into her arm gently, and he held her close for a few seconds making shushing noises. He looked her in the eye, searching for signs that the medication was working. “River, go back to bed. You need to sleep.” “I’m only trying to help- they want to take us away - they want us, they want to be us. Jayne is a girl’s name, Simon.” Simon sighed, and started to walk River back into her room.

On the bridge of Serenity, Wash sat in the pilot’s seat, his console covered with dinoaurs. “Since you became King of This Land, all you’ve done is sit pretty in your palace enjoying the nicest watering holes money can buy- we want our equality!!” said the Stegosaurus. “Oh yeah! What are you going to do about it, you unbelievably-low-income dirtless piece of-” the Triceratops was interrupted by Mal coming on the bridge. “That wang bao dahn was unbelievably stupid! He- they- I don’t know who I’m more mad at, him, or those imposters!” Jayne followed him on the bridge. “I think we should stick to haulin’ illegal cargo- folks involved in illegal business are a lot more smart-” Zoe filed in last and headed for her usual spot on the bridge, by the cockpit. She gave Jayne a ‘you-should-talk’ kind of look, then addressed the Captain. “Sir, we should hunt those sorry bastards down and show them who the REAL Serenity crew is- we can still catch them if we hurry.” Wash looked confused as he hurriedly put his toys away. “Imposters? Wait, who are we catching?” “Wash, get us out of here now, before the authorities change their minds. I’ve got a plan to catch them, Zoe, don’t worry. Tell me when we’ve cleared atmo, I need to run something by Inara.” “Aye, Captain.” Wash immediately got busy, and soon Jayne left the bridge, leaving Zoe and Wash alone. “Um, honey, do you mind explaining what’s going on?” “Just fly the ship, dear- The captain’ll explain everything once he’s got a plan.”

Just on the other side of the planet, on an almost identical bridge… “Captain, that was too close- if Serenity had shown up while were on the planet-” “Yes, I know, ‘Jayne’. Our plan back-fired. But don’t worry- as soon as we find out what their plan is, we’ll strike again.” ‘Jayne’ put her hands on the ‘Captain’s’ back, and smiled affectionately. “You know, ‘Jayne’, I think your name is much better as a girl’s.”
