He walked into her room and found her on her bed, she sat there cross legged and bent over something, softly rocking back and forth. He sat down on the edge of her bed and placed his hand, open palmed on her back. She looked up, startled. On her lap he found out that the something was a piece of paper and a book underneath. “What were you writing?” Simon asked. She stared, wide eyed for a second before saying, “playground school bell rings again,” like something about the phrase was obvious and he should understand it. “May I see the paper you were writing on River?” he asked as calm as could be. “Rain clouds come to play again,” she replied. “River I don’t...”he started. She cut him off with, “Has no one told you she’s not breathing?” He just stared, it was all he could do, perplexed by her behavior once again. “Hello, I’m your mind giving you someone to talk to, hello,” she singsonged. Just then Kaylee walked past, then turned around and said, “I’ve been lookin’ for you two,” she said, “it’s time for...” River looked up at her and said, “if I smile and don’t believe, soon I will awake from this dream.” Kaylee’s brow furrowed in confusion and she opened her mouth but River quickly turned back to Simon and almost screamed, “don’t try to fix me I’m not broken!” Then put her head in her hands, started rocking back and forth again, and sobbed, “hello, I’m the lie living for you so you can hide.” Simon put his hands around his sister and said, “River, it will be okay, it will all be okay.” “Don’t cry,” she simply said. Then she pushed him away and cried, “suddenly I know I’m not sleeping, hello, I’m still here all that’s left of yesterday!” and with that jumped up and bolted out of the room. “I’ll go find her,” Simon looked at Kaylee and said, “don’t keep dinner for us.” “Okay,” she said, casting a worried look over her shoulder, “you do just that.”
