A/N this is my first fic I ever posted so be kind I do what to know what you think

Inara never thought she would be jealous of an inanimate object, ‘Well’, she thinks, ‘It’s not really an inanimate object’. Oh but she was jealous of Serenity. She could not believe that Mal would sacrifice his life for ‘her’. He almost did but then again Serenity wasn’t just a thing or something living it was Mal’s home and so much more Inara came to find out when Mal stayed behind with his ship. He loves that ship not as in a lover or a child but as a home a haven for him. Serenity was the one thing no one could take away from him. Inara wouldn’t be surprised if he died with the ship ‘and he almost did’, Inara thought standing next to Mal holding his hand in the infirmary. Mal loves Serenity. A simple fact the Inara now truly understood. He loves this ship more then Simon loves being a doctor. He loves it more then Kaylee loves to work on engines. Mal loves Serenity more then Jayne loved Vera. He even loved Serenity more then Wash loves Zoë. Inara couldn’t see why Mal named the ship after such a bloody battle that only he and Zoë survived out of their platoon. Why couldn’t he have named it something else? Such a battle should not be immortalized being remembered every time the ship’s name is mentioned. “Cuz there’s no place I can be since I found Serenity” Mal answered. Inara hadn’t realized she asked the last question out lowed just then she started to silently cry. He squeezed her hand “What’s wrong?” he asked tiredly squeezing her hand. “Nothing, go back to sleep” Inara told him. She watched as Mal closed his eyes closed and his breath even out. “Let me be your Serenity,” She whispered then left the room.
