Simon had complete confidence in the captain. Well, almost complete. However, Simon was worried and very bad at hiding it.

"Look, you were worried, I acted. What's the problem?" Mal sounded both amused and incredulous.

"Okay, but he's mad, right?" Simon's eyes were wide. "We shouldn’t provoke him I mean coming back is not likely the best option. What if he called the Feds? They'll get us when we arrive."

Mal just rolled his eyes. "If he called the Feds he'd be dead too. He's really not that dumb." Simon could think of no retort, so Mal continued. "This is why we don't take orders from you. I'll settle it. Leave it be." He lifted his chin in the direction of the door. Simon took the hint and headed toward it.
