Quote:Originally posted by RugBug: With a ton of respect and a disclaimer that I have no idea of your particular family dynamic, IMO, women pay a MUCH more significant price than men do when it comes to not only birthing children, but rearing them. I think we've discussed this before, but most men spend around 30 minutes a day actively parenting. 30 minutes a day. Answer: You're right, in most respects that is the case. I actually work from home, so I am more involved than most. Even when I wasn't, I spent most the evening helping either with dinner or with kids. But I am unusual in that respect. To answer Zeek: There are a myriad of reasons why I don't necessarily want children. 1) The changes to my body. I absolutely fear gaining a ton of weight and then never losing it. 2) I fear never having any of my own time or money to do with as I see fit. 3) I don't have a strong urge to see a mini-me. 4) I think there are plenty of children in this world and I don't feel the need to add to that 5) While the unconditional affection of a child is AMAZING (good god, who doesn't melt when a little one buries their head in your neck for some snuggles?), I think if I had a kid for that reason, it would be more selfish that not wanting one because I don't want to get fat. A lot of people say it's selfish to not want kids. I disagree. I think it's no less selfish to want them as it is to not want them. A whole lot of the reason to have kids are pretty damn selfish, if you ask me. ANSWER: All very valid reasons. Having a child is first the woman's choice, then her partners. I have always respected my wife's choice, which is why our first 3 kids are 4.5 years apart. The last baby was a surprise, but welcome. We are done, so I got fixed, which is safer and easier than a woman. Again, my wife gave me the suggestion, and it's also WAAAAY cheaper than continually buying birth control.
