Well, not just her, but just to play it safe, spoiler stuff -> .

Select to view spoiler:

When Darla comes back and is all preggers, we get to see a great deal more about who she is and what went on w/ her and Angel. I say 'more', because I've missed so much from Buffy era and what not. Point is, so much time was spent with the build up of Darla's death/Conner's birth....how much time was spent on telling Conner about his mother? Who she was, that she sired Angel, etc.... Other than knowing his mother was a vampire and now she's dead, what does Conner know about her?

Per the DVD, Darla was an original character going back to Buffy. Having missed so much of her history, I was impressed w/ how the story played out with her death. Powerful stuff. It just seems that there was such a focus w/ her, and that when Conner was born, she's barely mentioned. If this stuff comes up in a episode, which one is it? If not, how come?

Important people don't do field work.

Actually, it does come up as Darla's spirit, or a spirit taking Darla's form comes to Connor. I'm not mentioning this in spoiler text, because its not really giving anything away, and its was only one episode, but it does mention more about her and Connor, as she tries to explain to him some things...I'm not sure what the episode is called, but I'm sure another browncoat around here does...

Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

Yeah, I didn't think the spoiler stuff was needed either, but someone kindly made mention before when I posted something else per Angel. But about the ep you're talking about, I think I saw it before, or at least partially. At the time, I was even more in the dark about characters and the timeline than I am now, so the context and importance was pretty much lost to me.

I'll keep an eye out for it though. Thanks

yeah, watching Buffy or Angel out of order can be very confusing,
so having Darla show up in Ats S4 to talk to Conner wouldn't mean much if you had missed all the earlier Darla business. Her story was one of my favorites:
something I had missed the first time I had watched (details about Darla's pregnancy in spoiler box):

Select to view spoiler:

The reason Darla was able to get pregnant was because Angel had won her a 'life',
but then after he won it they didn't get to cash in on it because she had already been brought back mystically once...
so the PowersThatBe paid back their debt by making her pregnant....
which was mentioned briefly at some point, but I had missed it, and I thought it was a really important plot point

This spoiler, not-spoiler thing is getting confusing but to be safe:

Select to view spoiler:

Holtz will have filled Connor in on a lot, albeit from a rather bias point of view - although having said that, is there a good side to Darla? The other thing to bear in mind is that from the time Connor came back things were more than a little frenzied so no real wonder that there wasn't much time to sit back & reminisce.

But you do have to wonder how much Connor knew about anything - for instance, when he & Cordelia encounter the beast, she points out that this is where he was born. Having said that, I suppose you wouldn't necessarily want to know you were born in an alley-way.

it is definitely true that most people in the world know exactly where they were born,
even if you were adopted (assuming you know you're adopted) you are usually given some information about your birth.
I assume that Connor had the normal questions,
but the Holtz only said whatever he wanted to...
it is an interesting thing to discuss/wonder about.

(I'm leaving off the 'spoiler' since this has reached the purely supposition stage...)

What episode is this in? I missed it too. Is it when the "spirit" of Darla talks to Connor?

TNT just reshowed that ep today.Season 4: Inside Out. Julie does an awesome job as Darla. Really like that character!

I know it had to play out this way, because Jasmine had to be born some way. But I still can't get over how even Darla's spirit could not convince Conner to spare the life of the innocent girl. Her speech to him was very touching and compelling, as she tells him that if he spills the blood of an innocent so his baby can live, then her death was for nothing...because of what he had become. Damn! Talk about a guilt trip!

Oh, and the ep-The Trial:Season 2 , is where Angel risks it all to save Darla, and wins....sort of.

Well I'll have to watch "Inside Out" again sometime soon. But are you saying "Inside Out" is the ep when it is explicitly explained that because Darla couldn't be given the life (because she had already been resurrected) Angel had won for her in "The Trial" that her pregnancy was the life she was "owed"?

'Cause that's a good reason for Darla to be pregnant, I just don't remember when it was established.

I don't think it's this ep..
I do remember that it's SKIP who tells Angel about the deal with Darla and the 'owed life'. It's in a big speech about how Angel has been played for a puppet since the beginning and how everything in his life.. his soul, going to Sunnydale, Buffy.. everything in the Fang Gang's lifes has been engineered to lead up to the birth of Jasmine. Bringing Darla back was part of Jasmines plan to be 'born', as was Angel going through the Trials...

I just wish I could remember the gorram episode!

Oh, that one. I remember Skip saying all that stuff. I just didn't notice the specific part that Darla was "owed" a life. I just thought he said Darla and Angel had a kid as part of the grand plan by the PTB or the Senior Partners (whoever it was) and they just "made" Darla pregnant but not for the specific reason that she was owed a life.

Actually Jasmine mentions in the next episode ("Shiny Happy People" I think) that Connor was a result of "The Trial"

Thanks, I'll try and keep that in mind when I get to that episode. I'm watching Season 3 right now and Darla has shown up to inform Angel he's a daddy. And boy is Cordelia pi...not happy. Holtz just arrived too.
