I go into a video store and I head to the science fiction section, and what do I see? Boxes and boxes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer; all the seasons lined up like the Great Wall of china.

And right next to that, in a small, dusty corner, there sits ONE box, and that box is Firefly the COMPLETE series!

For some reason, my blood starts to boil; its not fair I say.

Look to the dead to teach you survival...

River: You're right - it doesn't seem fair. When I went to find Firefly, I had to go to three different Best Buy stores to finally track it down. And that was the ONLY copy they had of the set! Meanwhile, there's Buffy sets galore, and even Angel by the truckload... Why, they've even got "special edition" Buffy sets with your favorite Spike episodes, and so on!

Which makes sense, really, if you think about it. Buffy was a monster hit (pardon the pun) for Fox, ran for 7 seasons, and Angel was a big hit as well, running for 5 seasons. Firefly, on the other hand, ran or one-half of ONE season before being unceremoniously yanked. By any reckoning, it's going to be harder to find and less likely to be stocked on a regular basis, simply because it was a much smaller show in terms of numbers of people who ever even SAW it, much less who were deeply drawn to it. Buffy and Angel were hits; Firefly is more of a cult classic.

I'm a fairly new but huge Firefly/Serenity fan. I have watched the complete Firefly DVD set at least twice. I went to the BDM the first day it was showing in my area. I was at my video store and they had the first 2 seasons of Buffy and the first season of Angel. I really never thought about watching Buffy before it just didn't seem like my type of show. I finally decided to try Buffy because I liked Firefly so much. I now have watched all of Buffy season 1 and half and season 2 and it's great IMHO. I still like Firefly a little better but I'm now hooked on Buffy. After finishing season 2 I'm going to check other video stores around me and see if they have any of the other seasons. I also plan on watching season 1 of Angel which my local video store carries. Would it hurt watching Angel season 1 after only watching Buffy season 1 & 2 or should I find more buffy seasons first?

I got a question. I asked a few day before what DVD's to rent from Netflix now that I am out of Firely dvds to watch.

from reading this thread I have NO desire to rent all those Muffy the Steak Driver dvd's. Imature whiney teens dont do it for me.

What about FarScape? Is that as good as Firefly and better than Muffy and Angel?

I never watched it because of all the horrible aliens. Reminds me too much of why I dont watch the new Star Trek shows. I even heard they used a few muppets! ouch.

A good friend of mine turned me on to Firefly when I confessed that I'd gotten hooked on Angel and Buffy. He also REALLY likes FarScape, but I haven't checked it out yet - mostly because I'm almost afraid to get hooked on yet another show and have to buy/rent more DVD sets!

As for watching Buffy/Angel "in order"... It helps, but it's not really *crucial*. There ARE some crossover episodes where characters and storylines will intersect, but I think you'd be pretty much okay with starting S1 of Angel before you see all of S3 of Buffy (Angel starts concurrent with the beginning of S4 of Buffy, just in case you were wondering).

If you can round up S3 of Buffy before diving into Angel, it can help. When I bought the DVD sets, I was swapping out disks back and forth, so I could see them episode-for-episode, just the way they were aired. Only in a few instances did it really help. Mostly it was a lot of disk-swapping for no real purpose... :)

It's hard to imagine, but there was a time when I never paid attention to Buffy or Angel. I just assumed that Buffy was a cheerleader with super powers and Angel was your standard handsome-man-save-me-from-the-monsters Dark Avenger. Forgive me, but I'd never heard of Joss Whedon, and so was not familiar with his eloquence and creative acumen, nor the talents with which he managed to surround himself. Anyway, Firefly changed all that. I feel in love the moment Mal kicked Niska's henchman in the engine. That love turned into righteous fury and obsession when it was cancelled. Anyway, a dear friend introduced me to "Once More With Feeling" and "Hush" and now I'm in love with Mutant Enemy.

VISITINGMYINTENTIONS

I went from Buffy to Firefly, from great to the best.

I was unimpressed with Angel the character, and unimpressed with the show. It's why I wasn't so surprised when Serenity disappointed me. Joss can do wrong. It's just when he does right, it's soooo right.

I went from Buffy, sometimes Angel, to full on Firefly, and now I'm catching up on what I missed from Angel, which was most of the first few seasons. Honestly, Joss Whedon just can't do any wrong as far as I'm concerned.

I watched some Buffy back in it's prime but after watching Firefly and seeing how good of a writer it had, I checked out Buffy and then Angel. I was a little let down by them at first but they're better than the rest of the crap that's televised. Comparing them to Firefly is like comparing a chocolate bar to chocolate ice cream, one sets the bar too high for the other to even come close but the lesser is still damn good. I guess that analogy would make Browncoats chocolate freaks or something but you get the point.

I was a Buffy fan back in the day (when it was first on TV) but lost track after Season 3. Angel I never watched because by that time I was hardly watching any TV. Well, after discovering Firefly, I decided that I wanted to go back to Buffy, so I've got the first four seasons on DVD now and they're just as good as I remembered. I decided that I had to watch Angel for the crossover eps so I borrowed my friend's season 1 and am working through it now. It's very good, though I think I will always like Firefly and Buffy better.

I had friends that were into watching Buffy and Angel. I didn't care much for what I saw of Buffy at first. I watch some of the final season and probably bits a pieces of episode here and there. I think I can count with both hands how many episode of Buffy in total I ever watched. I liked the Angel series a little better, but I didn't start watching it until its final season. They just didn't connect with me.

Now a co-worker is letting me borrow Season 1 Buffy and I figured it wouldn't hurt to check it out. I've enjoyed the first 4 episodes I've seen already. I was amazed at how much the characters had changed. I only rememeber that last few episodes and to start on Season 1 is a little... wow.

I know Cordelia (sp?) was a self-centered vain little from what I've seen of Angel, but wow, she was 20 times worse in the first season of Buffy. I'm looking forward to seeing how her and the other characters develop into what they become. Whedon did a wonderful job on these characters.

I'm looking forward to going through the entire series.

Once, just once, I want things to go according to
the gorram plan!

It's nice to see that quite a number of you are tuning into Buffy and Angel. I am a longtime fan of both.

I think some seasons stand out more than others-and some characters do. They are quite funny, dramatic and sad as well.

Ever since discovering Serenity and then Firefly,I have found a new appreciation of Joss. They're both just wow!

I'm proud to have all 3 shows as my fav fandoms.

... Hi, I've a simple question. Not really worth starting a new thread, so I'll put it here (as I AM indeed an FF fan, and this concerns Angel).

... Angel... is it good? Scale from 1 to 10, say Firefly is sitting at "8", just for reference.

... There was once a "Good Vampire" TV show, "Forever Night"(?) that was on when I left the States . . . is Angel as good / better?

... Angel was never aired here in Japan and I've been here too long to have seen any of it, so I come to my fellow FF fans for wisdom.

... Share with me. And thank you.

... River scares the hell out of me. I love her for it, though.

... Thanks, Rivergirl! I think I'll stay clear of Angel until I get some solid research done on it.

Unfortunately, they're both on at the same time--7:00am (eastern time). Catch Buffy on FX (I think it's mid-S5 right now) and Angel on TNT (mid-S3, I think?).

Yep, I started with Firefly and Serenity, and have seen about 2/3 of Angel to this point. I have yet to watch Buffy, but I'm greatly enjoying Angel.

I fell in love with Firefly first, half a year back or so... Then after wanting more from Joss, I got ahold of Buffy and Angel. I really like Buffy, and think that Angel is pretty good as well.

Nothing will remove Firefly from the #1 spot though. I do feel that I will watch anything that Joss creates in the future though. Such a genius...
