Just caught the last episode on TNT this morning, and a thought occurred to me. I'm sure it's been brought up before, but oh well...

Select to view spoiler:

When Angel bit Marcus Hamilton, and sucked in some of the ancients' power, how long does that 'charge' last ? He took care of Hamilton fairly quickly, so did he have enough to carry him through the final battle ? Did the power of the ancients run through ALL those monsters too ? Or were they more or less 'as is', and only Angel was super charged? Marcus was a bit cockey in his statement, saying he could not be defeated.

I've heard a theory that Angel being charged up like that is how they would have made it out of the alley. That the blood of the Wolf, Ram and Hart being in his veins would give him some sort of power over the army of the senior partners. Or that he'd just be juiced up and kick their ass. I'm guessing the demons in the alley were just demons - Hamilton was special because he was the conduit to the senior partners.

By the way, do we still have to do spoilers for Angel? The series ended along time ago...

Wow, I wasn't the only one up at seven this morning.

What I wonder is the ramifications this will have. If the effects of Hamilton's blood are permanent, will this start to change Angel? Maybe it could allow Angelus to have more control over him.

It really could have led to plenty of cool story lines. Like maybe Angel would have a direct connection to the senior partners. Just like cordy and her connection to the powers that be. Or it could have been something they wanted angel to do. Maybe the blood would start to corrupt him from the inside out or give them some control over his actions. They could go a lot of different ways with it. Though it's most likely that it was just a temporary charge and there would be no real long term effects.

Just joking around, how does blood leave a vampire's system? Do Angel and Spike regularly go to the toilet to get rid of old, spent blood? Or does it just vanish? The Hamilton blood question could have given us an interesting insight into vampire physiology in the Buffyverse...

Well, I'm usually up earlier than that, but I overslept.... Just a nice "coincidence" that it was the last episode too, huh?

I never figured that the 'charge' would be permanent. Eventually, Angel is going to have to feed again, and when he does, he'll need new blood. I just figured it was like having a really good meal, maybe one spiked w/ a super energy drink. Or something. But then again....maybe not!

Am I the only one that got this out of that scene:

I never figured Angel got any sort of "charge" from Hamilton. When Angel says "Wow, you really are full of it." It sounded sarcastic to me, like he was just full of sh**. What i interpreted was that Angel just got his confidence back to kick his ass, due to Hamilton's blood being no different than anything else.

Am I alone in this?

He meant it both ways, I think. It did give him the confidence, but he definitely got a "charge" from Hamilton's blood for real. Yep, Jayne got his ass kicked by a pretty boy. Wash would've found that almost as hilarious as him getting beat up by a 90 lb. girl!

I always took it that drinking the blood was a temporary thing. It gave a charge at the time, but would wear off.

The same thing happened when he drank Buffy's blood after he was poisoned. The blood of a slayer cured him, but he did not have any lasting slayer powers as a result and he almost drained her dry.

It even seemed to work the opposite way too, when Buffy drank Dracula's blood. She was under a temporary 'thrall', but then it wore off.

OK, but here's where I gotta wonder.....when he drank Buffy's blood, Angel had been poisoned, and her blood was merely the antidote. A Slayer's powers doesn't come specifically from her blood, but her entire being. However, Angel was healthy when he bit Marcus. Marcus had the power of the ancients 'in his blood' the power which made Marcus so strong acted equally on Angel. And we saw how Marcus pretty much kicked everyone's ass, up until then.

For Angel, fighting an army of monsters would use up that energy, eventually. But since he used little of it to defeat Marcus, it seems most of it should still be in Angel's system when the 'final battle' started.

I finally finished Angel. I know, took me long enough.

I say it was similar to an energy drink. It was a boost that lasted for a limited time. It is conceiveable that he would still be a bit juiced in the alley.

Side note: I'm pissed at what he made Lorne do. Very pissed.

Hi, TWG!

I suspect that the jolt was temporary, but one never knows.

I agree about Lorne. However, the truth was that the organization of Wolfram and Hart WAS corrupting Our Heroes. They each, I think, did things in that last season that they would never have considered before. Lorne was loyal to Angel, but realized that he did not belong there in the end. After the thing with Fred and Ilyria, Lorne was never quite the same.

It might have been Cordy's visit that put Angel back on track, I don't know.

but we are going to find out soon!

I'm pretty excited about IDW's Angel season 6 comics which Joss is helping Brian Lynch to write...
we are going to find out everything about that battle in the S5 finale,
about whether the strength from Hamilton is permanent (that never occurred to me, it is a very cool thought) and about which of our gang survived!

(I'm enjoying the BtVS S8 comics and I expect to enjoy these just as much!)
