I just watched 'Ground State' again. I always thought she was an interesting character, a cross between Faith and Sydney Bristow...

Okay, I'll admit I'm desperate for more Joss on TV, but I really think it could be an interesting show. Plus, Amy Acker could pop in once in a while as Illyria.

Anybody agree, disagree, or have another idea?

Actually, that does sound pretty good. I like the idea of having a character who lives in the gray, especially when Angel focused very heavily on the forces of good and evil. It always bothered me the Wolfram and Hart employees called themselves evil. No one really wants to be evil. They were just people who wanted power. There are no good or evil people, only good or evil acts. Gwen Raiden seems to be the kind of character who could walk that line between those acts.

Well, don't forget Lilah's line about only doing favors unless they're 'evil' favors, or something like that.

Ordinarily I'd probably agree with you about most people, but I also believe there are people out there who are deliberately so.

There doesn't seem to be much love for Gwen out there among the fans. Even people who like S4 (and there are some of them out there) usually list her as one of the year's negatives. I don't get it--I really enjoyed all three of her appearances.

On the other hand, I think she might be one of those characters who's best in small doses. The three eps she was in in S4 seemed like just about the perfect number. I would've liked to see her once or twice in S5, too, but more than that, I'm not so sure...

America loves a winner!

I'm w/ you. I dug her and her character. Self assured, loner type....w/ an attitude.

More Joss is always a good thing. Maybe another series could involve her, and a host of other Angel side characters?

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

I think most of the Employees didn't really know who they were working for. The Upper Execs I think knew and knew exactly what was going on. They either had to accept what was going on or find a way to get out of the firm. I also think that most people were just trying to get ahead and heard their bosses talking about rituals and wanted to fit in and it seemed to got the other guy doing a ritual got promoted. So he said the next review he would do something to get a raise then just ask for it.

So I don't think they started being evil and it just became something that slowly progressed and finally took over their lives and they looked back and couldn't see the line they said they would never cross and are probably are a little sad and angry about it.

I always felt the whole point in showing a bit of Gwen's origin meant that they were prepping her to be a regular or be around more often like they did with Darla, Dru, Lorne, etc.

That's one thing I never knew, though, that so many didn't like her. I don't understand that. I thought she was a fun character. Faith was always a loner, but they had definite ideas regarding how to make a series around her (w/Spike). Why couldn't they do something similar with Gwen?

She was hot so I'm all for her getting her own series. Though I don't think we know nearly enough about her to know if she could really carry a whole show.

She usually seems to get panned as being "too comic book-y, too X-Men." Now, if they were trying to get away with it on CSI or Law&Order, then yeah, there'd be a vaild complaint there. But come on--this is a world full of vampires, demons, and other creatures with supernatural powers. What is there about her that doesn't fit in with that?

Okay, I do remember having a problem with that I guess when Season 4 originally aired. Only added to my surprise that she wasn't around for Season 5 so it all could be explained how she got the power originally. But I guess we were supposed to assume she got it from being repeatedly struck by lightning after all.

Still, I came to love the character, especially her attitude. Would love to learn more about her.

I was always under the impression the lightning strikes were a result of her power, not the cause of it.

Guess now we'll never know for sure...

I got the same impression that her power was the cause. I sorta figured she was born that way and that her well to do parents were a bit put out with how other snobs were talking behind there backs.

Which I guess seems very x-menish. She was basically a mutant.
