Amy Acker really turns me on with her new look. It's so gothic and organic. I'm almost glad that Fred is history. I wish girls like that existed in the real world. She's so hot! Is it just me or what?

The attractiveness thing, in this case, is definitely secondary to the magnificent acting job she's pulling off. I was never too impressed with her as Fred, but this character is distinct, unique, and fascinating. I'm impressed.

Thing is, Joss has given Amy Acker a grand chance to exhibit some acting in a totally different mode from Fred, as we all can see. But with the series ending, I think this was a grand gesture by Joss, et al, to Ms. Acker so she can further her acting portfolio with something opposite her Fred portrayal. This ought to help her get jobs in the future, more than she might have got with only Fred as her character.

Good show, Joss.

It's not just you. I'm really not into girls at all, but my first thought when she turned into Illyria was, "Damn, she's hott."

I'll say this, she's had a much better evil makeover than Cordy.

Whether she is herself, Fred, or Illyria, Amy Acker is incredible. I hope she gets lots of work, cause I am going to miss her when Angel ends.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I admit, the blue hair thing? Hot, in a very weird way. I am definitely grooving on it, though. Still not sold on the character, though I do prefer her to Fred. At least, I prefer her lower, sexier voice (kudos on that, Ms. Acker).

So, yes, the hotness does abound. It may be weird, freaky hotness, but it's kinda cool, nonetheless.

I just wanna say that Amy Ackey is a fine woman, to keep in context of this posting. I really just wanted to comment on Amy's acting since she's playing Illyria. Her voice is demanding and her head is almost twitching around like she has more than five senses. Another bravo to Amy Acker for a subperb job playing Illyria with such power and force.

Didn't Illyria grow that outfit?
and yes, we all want to pet Spike...

er, I mean HAVE a pet Spike!

And I really agree: Amy is doing a brilliant job of this, they character has nothing in common with Fred, she has changed her voice, movements and attitude in such basic ways that she has convincingly created a totally different creature (and personally I'm enjoying Illyria way more than Fred!).

SOOO NOT TRUE

Cordy was all curves and danger. She came down those stairs all full of maternal belly and belly dancing attitude.
At any given month, half the dancers in the Guild are pregnant and the phones lit up as they all phoned and said, "OHH MY GOD! Are you watching Angel? We must have that outfit!"

"Just keep walkin, preacher man."

Having done much acting & having taught drama that impresses me. Yeah she is hot in that oh so frightening kind of way. I want to be Illyria's pet! The ability to play two characters is amazing, but even more so is getting lost in the intrigue of Amy playing Illyria, trying to play Fred. and doing such a good Job to make Wes very angry.

Have to add props to Alex too. I've been watching 1st season stuff, wow talk about a change from a bumbling Closeu to a haunted, unpredictable, very dark very human, man.

I couldn't agree more about Amy's acting ability. The last time I can remember an actor playing a dual role really well was when Dustin Hoffman did "Tootsie". Personally, (and I will probably get lots of flak for this) I think that Amy blows his performance away. Whenever she switched between Fred and Illyria my mouth just dropped open, I was so completely amazed.

I was so impressed that I even sent her a fan letter today. I'm 46 years old and I've NEVER sent anybody a fan letter before. Couldn't stop myself this time.

luckily we don't have to choose! Joss really knows how to find these wonderful gifted actors.

Amy's work this season has been incredible,
Alyson was always wonderful on BtVS...

Remember Wesley last year when they did that dumb 'turn 17 yrs old again spell'? When angsty rough Wes turned into geeky head-boy Wesley again before our eyes! LOL

Joss asks a lot of his actors, luckily they rarely let him down!

ANGELDOVE

This quote from an article on Amy's portrayal of both Fred and Illyria, hit my thoughts dead on. I knew immediately she was a rising star after ATS ends during the moment she switched back and forth from Fred to Illyria, we knew which part she was playing even without the costume change.
Quote:

Amy Acker as Fred/Illyria on "Angel": I've always enjoyed Acker's cute, giggly Fred. But as Simon Cowell would say, if I'm going to be perfectly honest, I never really gave her much thought. Her performance as Illyria has been chilling. I never once thought she had this in her. She changed her voice, her movements, the whole way she carries herself. Her entire body was transformed. If I didn't know better, I honestly would have thought a different actress was playing the role. Seriously, they didn't even have to dye her hair blue. The full breadth of Acker's ability was demonstrated last week when she flip-flopped back and forth between Illyria and Illyria pretending to be Fred (it reminded me of the nuanced performance David Boreanaz gave when he was Angel pretending to be Angelus.) Of series creator's Joss Whedon's many talents, one may be his ability to recognize that this kind of greatness exist within his stars.

Seconding that! I've never been impressed enough to put pen to paper before, but Amy's work as Illyria, and especially as Illyria playing Fred and then back to Illyria (voice) speaking to Wesley. The expressions, the head movements, the voice changes, the who way she carries herself. I've never seen anything even remotely like it.
