Sooooo... Angel said to Gunn that he wasn't responsible for Freds death because all he did was - sign a piece of paper.

Well, seems some people (Wes) though it wasn't quite so cut and dry eh?

Considering the growing sound of soulessness in Angels body I gotta wonder if what is left of our gang is indeed merely 'shells'. If so... who will stop the heros who have become villians? But my real question here...

Is Gunn a murderer? Did Gunn kill Fred?

No, Gunn is NOT a murderer. He said he knew there would be consequences to signing the customs order, but he didn't realize how serious they would be. He's obviously guilty of negligence for not looking into what he was signing before doing it. At this point, I think he's paid his dues by having his heart ripped out out daily for two weeks. He has repented his mistake and now obviously has a different attitude about his job/existence/purpose...

"I believe I mentioned that there could be dire consequences."

No, he said, he realized it would hit somebody, he just didn't think it would be anybody close! So he accepted that somebody presumably innocent would die.

Talking about the "soulless shelfs" - did any of you see the trailer for next week? It almost sounded as if Angel would give up his soul again to fight as Angelus???

Is he a murderer--yes. He killed the professor that sent Fred to Pylea.

Did he kill Fred--no.

Is he responsible for Fred's death--partially.

Good points. I had forgotten about the professor, so he really is a murderer. Ironic (of course) that he did that to protect Fred and then inadvertently helped to cause her death himself.

He knew the price for his own desires would be someone else's pain. He knew there would be consequences, and I'm pretty sure he knew those consequences would be serious. But he didn't think they'd happen to anyone he knew. He was perfectly content to make a stranger pay for his brain upgrade. That makes him responsible.

It's like that old moral dilema: If someone gave you a million dollars to push a button that killed someone somewhere in the world, would you do it?

I know Gunn was aware that something bad would probably happen as a result of signing that paper. I'm not convinced (although I may be wrong) that he knew someone would DIE because of it. Maybe I'm just not remembering exactly what he said when he finally confessed his involvement to Wes right before Wes stabbed him.

I may be wrong, but I still have enough faith in Gunn to believe that if he absolutely KNEW that someone would die, he probably would not have signed the thing. OK, it's bad enough that the possibility was there and he still went through with it. But I still think that if someone's death had been a sure thing, then he probably would not have done it.
