I have two questions that have been bothering me. If they've been discussed before I apologise.

1. In season one of Angel, Angel gives up being human so that he can protect Buffy because the End of Days is coming. Is this concluded when he takes Buffy the amulet at the end of season 7. Was that the end of days or have we not seen that yet? Because the episode he turns up in was called End of Days?

2. Did anyone notice the following paraphrased conversation in Angel season 5 (can't remember the episode:

Someone: We're in the middle of an apocalyspe
Spike (?): And we're on the wrong side. Unless you like winning that is.

Was this:
a)a deliberate reference to the Mal/ Alliance officer exchange in Bushwacked
b) a coincidence
c) re-using an old idea just because it fit
d) they're not very alike. I'm reading too much into things?

It annoys me a bit when they use similar jokes again. Like Knox saying of an employee of Wolfram and Hart:

'He was fired. Oh no, he was set on fire.'

It makes the original:

'What I've been in a firefight before. Ok I was in a fire. Actually I was fired from a Fry cook opportunity'

seem less original.

What does everyone else think? Sorry for the rambling I'm on a revision break and my brain's a bit frazzled.

1. I don't think anything can be taken totally literally in regards to that. He gives up his humanity at the time because without he won't be able to protect anyone - Buffy is just the best representation of that at the time.

2. Repeating lines is practically unavoidable considering the sheer number of hours ME have pumped out in the last years. To be honest I'm surprised you object to: "He was fired. Oh no, he was set on fire." being too similar to "What I've been in a firefight before. Ok I was in a fire. Actually I was fired from a Fry cook opportunity". To me they're entirely different. But yeah the dialogue did tend towards less originality at the ends of both series. Go back and watch S5 of Angel again and count how many times Spike says bugaboo...

1. It just seemed to me at the time that it was all pointing towards a specific event. With the Mohra (?) demons gathering and everything. But I see your point.

Yeah probably not the best example sorry. It was just a general impression I got about the season. You're right about them having to repeat stuff due to the amount of programming ME have done and after however many seasons it could have been less fresh and new than it was.

Thanks. I'm back off to the revision.

Yeah I took that as standard demon posturing i.e. "Even though I die my kind will avenge me blah blah etc."
