Thanks to IMDB, I found out why the face of the female lead in Riddick was so familiar - who else than our energy-loaden Gwen? I am very happy for Alexa, that her career is going so well, I would have loved to see more of her in Angel (I always thought she would have made a much better love interest than Cordelia)

I too, always wished they had done more with her on Angel. I thought she was a great addition early in S4, but then she only appeared in two or three more episodes.

Darn my failing memory!! I just saw that movie and didn't even recognize her!! Thanks for pointing that out. She is a beautiful woman. She looked better in Riddick than in Angel, I think. I wish her well in her career.

And I agree that she would have made a much better love interest for Angel. Why in the world they hooked her up with Gunn... absolutely NO chemistry there.

Being a hero doesn't mean you succeed in saving the day.... it just means you tried.

I knew she looked familiar. Thanks for pointing that out. Oh, and by the way, did anybody else think that movie sucked?

Yes, the movie sucked monkey genitals.

It was as though they took the character of Riddick from Pitch Black and transplanted him into a mutant version of Dune. Just awful stuff.

I liked Pitch Black. I hated Chronicles of Riddick.

I LOVED Pitch Black. I'm going to spoiler some comments here.

Why couldn't they have just left it at the fact that Riddick is a bad, bad man than try to make him into some freakin' super warrior from an almost extinct race?

Plus, the effects during the fight scenes were pissing me off.

I agree entirely. In Pitch Black, Riddick was impressive in the same way that the character of Hannibal was impressive. Eerie, competant, with motivations that stretch the borders of compassion and likeability. He was the anti-est anti-'hero' who was just a bad-ass in a bad situation, perhaps growing somewhat from the experience.

They took something from him by adding to him.

Also, the lack of odd races and supernatural phenomenon in the movie Pitch Black was a plus, in my opinion.

i think that the movie was okay. it was not great by any means, but it was not terrible. it was a good mindless action flick, but as a sequel to pitch black, it was not very successful. i do agree with some of the other posts, that riddick was made a little too "good" for my taste. what made him such an interesting character in pitch black was his self motivation, his hidden motives and the fact that, in a small way, he finds a tiny piece of his humanity on that planet but he is still an evil person (fundamentally). in chronicles of riddick, however, the writers made him TOO human, which is not necessarily a bad idea if they had continued with him finding small parts of his humanity or if they went the other way and reaffirmed the personality that he had at the start of pitch black. the premise behind the sequel was too big for that character. he needs a smaller stage, one where the audience can really grasp what is going through his mind. it might have been better to just have a story about him being hunted by mercenaries rather than have him get in the middle of the war. an anti-hero does not have to save the universe or anything like that. an anti-hero, in my opinion, can just be someone who is completely self serving but the audience roots for him anyway. that is what made pitch black so neat, in my mind.

my biggest complaint about the sequel:

why did they have to sever all ties with the original by killing the other two characters?!

anyway, my two cents. take them or leave them in the "give a penny" tray.

wow, i am suprised no one liked the film, i actually really enjoyed it. that may be because of my two special circumstances however..

1) I hated pitch black.. the idea was ok, but it seemed to be done poorly, and the only only only saving grace for that film was that you meet riddick.. most everyone and everything else in it sucked

2) i went into chronicles with the same expectations i had for Terminator 3... none. when you expect a movie to suck big big big time, and it doesn't suck that bad, you tend to enjoy it more, so good call on my part cause i feel i didn't waste my money.

I really think chronicles was good though.. not the best movie ever sure, but still good.. yeah there was some cliche shit and cheezy one liners, but not as bad as say, big gay van helsing or something.. plus most of the complaints about riddick becoming too hero like.. i am not following you. i can't really see much that he did which wasn't self serving. if you are a self serving person you can really follow what he is thinking the whole time.. even when he was with the necromongers, he was just trying to fight or find his wat out... i don't think he gave 2 shits about his little shan shu proficy.. he did what he did cause he wanted to get the hell outta there or was seeking revenge. i personally can't wait for the next one.

ps, the ending rocked.

I liked it too. I also think he was just doing what he wanted and in the end it worked out for everyone.

I really liked the movie, too! But hey, every movie with Vin Diesel in it is a girl's movie, right? Just his voice alone makes me drool!

I liked the stunts, especially the rope one and really liked the beauty of the sets. But I agree that it was a shame they

killed Kyra off, now that Riddick has no one left he cares for, what will he do in the next movie, provided there is one?

Definitely a DVD to buy.

keep doing what he always has? i mean do you really want to see riddick just go around saving people all the time? not me.. i'd love to see him do all the things he's been so hunted for.

i'm with you robb. i liked it too. everything you said is what i was thinking (except the hated pitch black part). and when the deceptive wife screamed near the end and it all came together, well ... i guess satisfied is the word.

KRYPT

I enjoyed TCOR, but I'm waiting for the director's cut DVD to pass final judgment. For the theatrical release of the film, the director was forced to cut 40 minutes of backstory and character development out of the film because the studio decided that it wanted a PG-13 "popcorn" movie.

I thought it was interesting seeing Riddick tossed into this mega-space-opera story.

Btw, has anyone written a Firefly/Pitch Black crossover fanfic?

40 Minutes more backstory? This is so cool, tanks for sharing, I didn't know that. I hope it will be out on DVD soon!

Thanks,
