Overall, plot arc wise, I've got to go for season 4, particularly the whole enormous lead-up to the Jasmine arrival. Not to mention that it had Gwen Raiden, quite possibly one of the most interesting guest characters to come across the Angel storyline in a good long while.

Pity they haven't had her do any return work since episode 16. She is a great character, especially when played by a talented actress like Alexa Davalos.

So what about you? Favorite overall season? Best outcome? Best plot arc?

History doesn't always repeat itself. Sometimes it merely shouts "Weren't you listening the first time?!?" and lets fly with a club.

Season 2 is my favorite. Lindsey will always be my favorite character and Christian Kane just shone throughout that season. I loved the bringing back of Darla and how Angel had to face his own obsessive nature. I was thrilled that he didn't turn evil after his night of passion with her. I haven't usually been overly fond of the negative portrayals of sex that Joss & Co. have shown over the years, but to show this as utter dipair rather than pure happiness was just brillitant.

The season ending was so-so. Not all that keen on the Pylia story line, though I adored Cordelia throughout that part.

Once Connor was brought in I had a real bias against the show. As a mom, I was horrified at the message that screwing a teenager can give you a moment of true happiness, but holding your infant son will not. And don't give me any of that "But he knew Connor wasn't safe..." crap. The first time I held my infant son he was in Neonatal Intensive Care. We didn't know *what* was going to happen to him, but nothing could nullify that moment of true joy when I first held and fed him.

Blame the Gypsies. Besides which, I sincerely doubt any of them anticipated the child of two vampires...

Heh heh. No kidding. But the point is that the writers didn't think that one through very well. I'd be willing to bet that none of them had kids at the time those eps were written.

Have to agree with you. Season 2 rocked though the last few episodes were kind of corny.

Season 3 remains my least favorite of all Angel seasons (though season 5 wasn't looking good when it first started). First 6 episodes were good with the exception of the Gunn-centric one. Angel smiled way too much in season 3 and while the narcisistic Angel is funny once in awhile, there was more of that than the brooding one from the first seasons. I also had trouble with his inability to forgive Wesley. Somebody who wants forgiveness for horrible things that Angelus did, not to mention what Angel did in season 2 and 3 ("I did what I had to do, damn the consequences") and then can't forgive others (I don't think Angel has ever forgiven Wesley, either). I know that I have always bought into the belief that you are only forgiven as much as you forgive, so maybe I am just biased.

I really missed Lindsey, Kate Lockley, and Anne in season 3 as well.

The character arc with Cordelia was kind of disappointing as well. The visions seemed painful for half-demon Doyle, so why does half-demon Cordy get pain-free glowy powers? I think they could have done more with 'the visions are killing her' storyline.

Just my feelings.

ANGELDOVE

The best story arc for me was Darla through seasons 2 and 3. I also enjoyed the Connor story line, until the Connor/Cordy debacle. My favorite aspect of the Darla soryline was Angel's deep despair that finally led him to the rock bottom event that forced him to look at what he had become and thus put him on the path to enlightenment. My favorite aspect of the Connor arc, Wesley's betrayal: Angel to Wes at the hospital:
ANGEL:
"I just want you to know I understand why you did it. I know about the prophecies and I know how
hard it must have been for you to do what you did. You thought I was going to turn evil and kill my son. I didn't turn into Angelus. It's important to me that you know that. This isn't Angelus talking to you, it's me, Angel. You
know that, right?"
And then attempts to smother him with a pillow.

I just wasn't expecting it.

My least favorite aspect of the show season 3 and 4 Cordy hair, what was she thinking?

Other fav's

Favoite Season: Season Five
Funniest Episode: Smile Time
Saddest Episode: A Hole in the World/I Will Remember You (Tie)
Favoite Joss Whedon Episode: Waiting in the Wings

Darla to Angel: "No matter how good a boy you are - God doesn't want you! But I still do."

God, this is such a good question! The Darla arc throughout seasons 2 and 3 was probably my favorite arc. Season 1 was my favorite season until I bought the third one on DVD. Season 3 had so much depth I had dreams about it, both good and bad. The emotion was there just like season 1. But, Joss Whedon ended it so darkly it left a bad taste in my mouth. Angel loved that baby sooo much, more than Buffy even, and then he was ripped away by his closest friend, next to Cordy. And Holtz, I just wanted to go back in time and take him out myself. Like Faith "victimized" Buffy, Holtz did the same to Angel and Conner. Yeah I know, Angelus did the same to Holtz back in the day, but he had no soul. Even in death he stuck it in and broke it off to Angel. Anywho, I think I've gone on way too much to be considered healthy about it. On that note, I'll say it's a tie between seasons 1 and 3 as favorite seasons.
Oh yeah, and season 3 also had THE MOST DRAMATIC scene where Angel snaps on Wesley in the hospital bed. I can't believe I'd never heard of that scene until I finally got the DVD.

"I'll be in my bunk."

Season 1 is my favorite. I really liked how Angel investigations started with just Angel, Cordelia, and Doyle. seasons 2-4 were also excellent, but the Buffy and Faith episodes in season 1 were a huge plus. Now about season 5. Wesley and Fred are my favorite characters, and the story arc going on currently is amazing, and heartbreaking. I have a feeling that by the end of this season I'm going to have a new favorite.
