Here found this on Scifi.com Sci Fi Wire and didnt see any post on it yet.

Garth Ancier, chairman of The WB network, confirmed to SCI FI Wire that the network has approached Angel creator Joss Whedon about doing a telefilm version of the canceled television series, about a vampire with a soul. "[We] have an offer on the table to Joss to do movies," Ancier said during the network's fall press preview in Los Angeles. "When Joss and David Boreanaz are both interested in doing it at the same time, I'm sure we will be doing Angel movies. Certainly Joss would like to. David will take a bit more coaxing, but I think he will do it."

Ancier later attributed the cancellation of the series, which ended a five-year run on The WB last May, to pressure from producer 20th Century Fox Television for a quick answer as to the show's renewal. "They had pushed for an early decision on whether the show should come back or not," Ancier said. "Had they not pushed for the early renewal, or, conversely, if we had said, 'You know what? Let's wait till we get to the scheduling room in May and decide then,' ... the show may or may not have been back. But I think we would have had that opportunity to discuss it. I think the mistake that was made is that between us and 20th, we didn't wait until May. We just made the decision early based upon their request."

I'm just getting an eerie sense now, as I recall how 20th Century suddenly wanted a bunch more money at the end of season 5 of Buffy...

You are correct Radhil: this is a normal set up for shows Fox produces for other networks,
after 5 years the fees change and Fox gets more $.
So UPN cancels rather than pay more for the show.
I don't know if it is a huge change in fees
after all, Ats was one of UPN's top rated shows.

But I have to say that Ancier is doing some revisionist spinning here...they don't want it to be their fault...they would rather blame Fox.

Actually it was clearly Jordon Levin (then head of programming for UPN) sole decision...but since he is gone I guess Ancier wants to forget him ... whatever.

I am going to be VERY disappointed if Ancier insists on having David Boreanez and/or SMG before commiting to a movie.
Fact is that James Marsters, Alyson Hannigan, Anthony Stewart Head, and others are willing to make a TV movie and I would love to see it made!

Not the same Fox. This is 20th Century Fox Television, the company that made Buffy, Angel, and Firefly. Not the Fox Television Network, the company that cancelled Firefly and had nothing to do with Buffy or Angel.

I hadn't considered this prior to your comment. But as I think about it, this idea grows on me... a lot.

After so many years on television, each of the characters that you named (and others as well) are well enough developed, with enough backstory, to fill a movie-sized story. The problem is that any time the subject is brought up, it's referred to as an "Angel" movie or a "Buffy" movie instead of a "Buffyverse" movie. If the suits could think outside of the box just long enough to make that distinction, we might see an excellent story centered around one of the other characters that we came to care about.

To be perfectly honest, I'd pay to go to a theater to see a movie centered around Faith's character! It was my fondest hope that Faith would have been the next Whedon series... I loved her "bad girl with a heart of tarnished gold" persona.

Exactly! Yeah, I'd be very pleased with a Faith/Robin movie, a Willow/Kennedy movie, a Spike/Illyria (spelling? ) movie, etc. Note that, in all of these cases, you have one solidly defined character and one that is newer, ready for some significant development.

There's a lot of potential in the Buffyverse. It's a shame that the suits are too narrow-minded to see it...

When Joss was in Chicago at the comic book convention he joked that he was working on a musical entitled: 'ANDREW'
and I'd pay to see that! LOL

I do hope that now that Serenity is done filming and is in post production Joss will have enough time to focus on the TV movie thing. He said Fox is very interested in producing them. He has talked to James about doing a Spike movie (and JM said anywhere anytime, one line, 10 lines, or more, he is ready to do anything Joss wants), and Joss has talked to Tony Head on and off for years about doing 'Ripper'.

Personally I want Zombie Wesley (I just met Alexis at the Oakland convention and he is really great).

So I have my fingers crossed that we'll get something this year!

I've been waiting for "Ripper" for ages. That would be very cool if he eventually got around to doing it.

I just looked ahead at the schedule for next Wednesday, after "Smallville" ("Angel"'s former time slot). The WB, in it's infinite wisdom (ahem, cough, spit) has apparently decided to replace "Angel" with some piece of crap called "The Mountain". It looks like some cheap Dynasty/Dallas soap opera rip-off.

Personally, I'm going to at least write in to the local affiliate and let them know that I'm not watching it, but that I would have been watching in that time slot if they had kept "Angel" in it. I know it won't change the sich, but it will make me feel better to let them know that their stupid decisions have consequences.

I seem to recall that Angel was the last show not knowing if it would or would not be renewed. I might be confusing it with season 4 end, I don't know.

Yes, you're confusing it with season 4. One of the main reasons it got renewed was the addition of JM.

David has said repeatedly that he'd love to do another movie, so as long Sarah's part of it.

Where did you read this? I know he's said he'd do an Angel feature, but I don't remember anything about SMG having to be involved..? Why would he even care?

I'm not so quick to go off on Fox, on this issue. The producers wanted an early answer, because if they were going to have a 6th season, surely they wanted to plan for it, in the writing?

You don't want to have the final eps of Season 5 shot, and written, and THEN find out if the next season is happening or not. That sh*t may have flown with "Full House," but not for our boy Joss.

Hahaha it's worse that FOX can't even make the right decisions on their own network and now they have to go and screw others.

From his last convention:

He was asked about future projects...same old, same old...and he specifically said that he would love to do a movie......WITH SMG. HEe brought her up. Said he'd do a "proper movie to end Angel's story"....that it would be a good idea "play out THEIR story"...

David LOVES working with Sarah, and vice versa. They started out on these series together and have a wonderfull friendship. That's why he would care.

Near the year’s end, Boreanaz also made a brief foray back to Buffy for a final appearance during the series’ last season. “That was cool,” he says. “It was a pleasure to see everybody, and [the episode] was a great tribute that returned to that time when Buffy and Angel really took off as characters and there was that beautiful romance between them. That really set the pace for Buffy.”

The actor is a bit disappointed that SMG wasn’t able to reciprocate and appear on Angel, and there is some dispute as to whether or not her work precluded a guest spot. “It would have been nice to have Buffy come over, and I know that Sarah wanted to do it and felt bad about not being able to, but I don’t know what happened,” says Boreanaz. “I think that decision was made by the Powers-That-Be, for reasons that I don’t know. I loved working with Sarah and having those two characters together. When they were with each other, Angel was a completely different person.

I just read an article analyzing ratings for the new season thus far. The Mountain is down almost 42% from what Angel averaged in the same time slot last year. Now they are about to move The Mountain to sundays and put Jack & Bobby in Angel's old time slot. The WB's decision to cancel Angel is looking more ridiculous every day.

Ka is a wheel, time but a face on the water.

It's not surprising that ratings are down so much. After all, the WB probably lost 100% of the viewers who used to watch in that time slot. I certainly don't know any "Angel" fans who are now watching "The Mountain". And I'll be just as happy to not watch "Jack and Bobby" as I am to not watch "The Mountain".
