"In just a few short weeks, the networks will decide which of our TV faves will live or die. The wait will be especially excruciating for the loyal devotees of one show in particular: the WB's Angel.

Over the past two weeks, more than 8,000 TV fans weighed in on our Save One Show poll, voting for the endangered series they most want to rescue from cancellation. Out of a list of 18 shows, Angel scored more than 50 percent of the votes.

Astounding, yes. But this overwhelming support should come as no surprise. Not only is Angel one of the best-scripted dramas anywhere on the telly, it also has (as the poll results show) an intensely devoted fan base that can't fathom the idea of losing Angel on top of sister show Buffy.

That said, keeping Angel on the fall schedule would be a good move for the Frog net, not only because it's inherently altruistic (no kicking when down) but because Buffy's demise could trigger a significant hike in Angel's ratings, as Buffy fans search elsewhere for their Buffyverse fix.

And the show is likely to be better than ever next year, thanks to the less-divided attention of Joss Whedon (creator of Angel, Buffy and Firefly) and the possibility of an invigorating new cast dynamic, should any Buffy alums join the show.

So, please, Froggy execs, for all that is good and right in the world: Save Angel. With a little TLC and a permanent time slot, Angel could finally get the audience (and respect) it deserves."
