Civil War Banners - Firefly/Serenity characters

Hey all, I didn't want to post these in the Blue Sun room as a) there's a boatload of them and b) I'm not 100% sure people here will be interested, but I've made up some Civil War banners. For those not in the know, Civil War is a ground breaking story that is currently taking place in the Marvel comics (Spider-Man, X-Men, Avengers etc.) Seen by many to be an allegory for the Patriot Act, this story deals with the conflict that arises when legislation is put in place to register superheroes. In other words, any superheroes who don't provide their details to the government break the law and get jailed. The law bitterly divides the superhero community into those to support it and those who refuse to obey it, a division gets deeper as the supporting side is forced to police the other. Yes this is all very interesting but what the heck does it have to do with Firefly? On the surface, nothing. However, when the story first came out Marvel fans started using banners as signatures, declaring their loyalties to the pro-registration or anti-registration sides. Then people started making funny ones celebrating their characters. Then non-Marvel fans started joining in just for the heck of it and now... well, have a lurk at www.penny-arcade.com and you'll get an idea just how many banners there are out there. I've seen loads of banners for every kind of movie, comic, tv show and historical figure, but so far I've only come accross one Firefly related banner. ("I'm with the girl who can kill you with her mind!" - had a cool shot of River from Serenity) Since there seems to be a gap I've made a few more. Posters are more than welcome to use these (as long as you host them yourselves - don't steal my bandwidth!) or make up their own based on these. (Badger is missing from my list, I'm sure I've missed someone else and I need a decent image of Book for his banner!) Okay, hope I haven't bored any non-Marvel fans to death. Hope at least *someone* finds a use for these! Enjoy! "I'm with Jubal Early. That seem right to you?" An animated one... "I'm with the ugly one" (cycling through the three from OoG, and then going to a picture of all three together and the text "Could you be more specific?")

Bwah hah ha! I'm with the strawberry! I love it! But don't go giving me all your ideas - go make 'em yourself! If the strawberry banner is anything to go by then you have a knack for it. As you can see, my banners have a slighly different layout - Civil War to the left, pic in the middle and caption to the right. It keeps the banners nice and small - 500x80pix - and lets you have longer captions without having to squint at the screen. You have a witty sense of humour. "I'm with Niska. But the real me isn't." Why thank you, yours are mighty shiny also :) The reason I'm not making them myself is that the strawberry one took me way longer than I thought and I simply have more ideas than time ;) I got the layout of mine from the layout others were using on the board I originally saw them on; in fact I took one of those, blanked out everything but the Civil War bit, and pasted Kaylee over the top. Then mucked around with the scaling and text and gradient fades to black and things for hours. BTW you were asking about finding more images for the characters - are you aware of http://www.still-flying.net/? You should be able to find plenty of pictures of everyone to use. Although last I checked they didn't have anything from the BDM.

Thanks for the info. I know about still-flying all right. I practically live there. That site and leavemethewhite are pretty much the source of all my images. My main issue is net access. I'm renting and don't have internet access at home, so I have to snatch stuff where I can. Luckily I have a very nice boss who lets me use her PCs on my own time. Isn't it great? It even has the movie DVD extras! I LOVE your ideas! I'd probobly change the wording on some slightly. Like "I'm taking a dirt nap with the Baby Jesus!" (with a pic of the kid) or "I'm with the guy who stands at the door and says 'Boo!'" (with a pic of Crow.) I'm with River's feet... That never even crossed my mind and it's PERFECT! I'm officially declaring a Blue Sun challenge. We need more people making these banners! Apart from the fun, it's a great way to spread the signal to other boards.
