But you are a troll and "mabe" you should leave. Whatever "mabe" means. I imagine it's something close to "maybe," a single word formed from "may" and "be" meaning "perhaps/possibly existing/being." You must forgive them their ignorance, Sanmi77, for they can't understand retarded writing and grammar. I deal with the common public, so I see a wide range of stupid in at least three different accents and languages. Also, please look into using commas. Punctuation is important in any language, as it separates complete and partial ideas and concepts.

Either way, you're a dumbass. Get the hell out.

Okay, Sanmi, I went back through your other thread, and I only found one or two posts that weren't being all together nice to you. Most of them were saying you should stick it out and learn from your mistakes. People even vouched for you. The fact that you flew off the handle and start THIS one smacks of "woe is me syndrome." All fans are welcomed here, and the only thing that is required is a semi-decent attitude and a love of Firefly.

I've avoided posting re: sanmi77
but I'm kind of put-off by this business of starting thread after thread about sanmi77

I'm more sympathetic to fans who actually post to existing threads about the show, or (if they have questions about the show) start threads about 'Firefly'
we've got about five sanmi77 centric threads going and that is ridiculous...

And newcomers wouldn't be put off by a thread full of browncoats being as mean as possible. Because remember folks, we're really nice people. yes? Hey, let's give Sanmi some credit. This intricate weave of "poor me, pity me, mabe I'll leave" threads has spawned a little side conversation about my 'Boys.

Clarification: Dallas Cowboys. Don't be nasty. My other boys don't play football.

I'll always be a Cowboy fan. Landry got shafted, true enough, but that couldn't stray me from cheering for Troy, Emmitt and the Playmaker. Mooooooose.

All hail Sanmi77! Your self-indulgent pity party has afforded me the opportunity to profess my adoration for America's Team on a message board that has absolutely nothing to do with the NFL. Cheers, buddy!

You're not wrong for feeling that way. I've been a Cowboys fan since the age of six (1964). Being a male child from Texas in that era, it was kind of a slam dunk. My earliest memory of fandom was watching a game between the Cowboys and the Los Angeles Rams (remember when LA had a team?). My father was a Rams fan since WWII, my grandfather a Cowboys fan. I was really only interested in the Cowboys logo of a chaps-, spurs- and hat-wearing rider astride a pony in full gallop. That's propaganda/marketing! (NB: Conversely, I would gladly kneecap their current mascot 'Rowdy' and watch him bleed out, even though his costume is based on the logo of my memories.)

When Jones took over the team and promptly fired Landry, I was as outraged as any Cowboys or NFL fan could be about the way it was done. It was disrespectful.

Having said that, the Cowboys fans knew Landry was past his prime as a coach by at least 3 years. He was definitely showing signs of senility (a term I don't use lightly), while showing no signs of retiring gracefully. He was tarnishing his own legend. (NB: Think Joe Paterno, or any number of players who hang on after they're no longer competitive.) So firing Landry was something that had to happen and there may have been no way of doing that gracefully.

But I will be a Cowboys fan 'til the day I die, no matter who the owner, coach or players are. I enjoy the winning years, especially since they are seasoned by the losing years (hopefully we'll put away the salt shaker for a bit this year). To quote sanmi77, "mabe" it's just 'parity' at work, but Cowboys fans enjoyed a lot of 'sodium-free' years under Tom Landry, much spicier campaigns since; that's his legacy, not the multiple losing seasons and the team loaded with sub-par talent when he left.

Being a Cowboys fan is like being an American: We take a lot of sh*t for it, everyone despises us at some level (if not with open hostility), and we fans could not be prouder of our tradition, even if it's got some holes and stains. I know Shramm didn't have that metaphor in mind when he coined "America's Team", but it fits.

Go ahead and hate me, y'all. I'm still,

Respectfully Yours,

zoid

P.S.
Thanks, 'Lish, for 'opening a lane' and allowing me to get that off my chest. A girl who knows her football: Could you possibly get more attractive? I don't think so.

P.P.S.
Everybody else: Love your team, even if they suck and/or have Randy Moss on the squad. Jumping to the hot or popular team every year shows lack of character. (NB: Unless your team is the Arizona Cardinals, in which case, do whatever it takes to make it through yet another torturous season. You have my sympathies.)

sanmi77:

Hey, babe. Looks like you've been using the dictionary, thesaurus and possibly the translator links I posted for you on a different thread. Good on ya'!

I only caught one little misspell/misuse in your post: It should be "leave this whole thing in the past" as opposed to "leave this hole thing in the past", which is embarassingly an entirely different subject...

Still, you are showing some improvement in mechanics. Now, we just need to work on your etiquette and attitude.

As stated above, it's neither proper nor polite to start a thread about yourself or any other FFFn poster. You should never seek pity because other posters disagree with you or ignore you. It happens to everyone (some more than others): Do like we do and get over it.

Try to add something to a conversation (spelled as correctly as possible, not because we are picky, but so we can understand you). Do not make every conversation about yourself. The rule is: "One Mal-Licious per site", and we've already got a perfectly good one, thanks anyway.

It is proper to quietly take your well-earned 'medicine' when people ignore or insult you for trying to start/hijack a thread for pity. Alternatively, you can choose to ignore/insult yourself, and post another response, without the pity-pleading, and get the thread back on topic. This works very effectively. Usually, people who ignored your attempt at sympathy-gathering, will respond to your next on-topic post quite readily, because all the personal info you've been gushing is just too damned icky to bear.

So, this is the lesson for today: If you truly want to be a member of this community, not just a lurker reading fanfics, remember it's not all about you (it's all about Mal-Licious *who said that?*). Post things about Firefly and Serenity, or even about other shows/movies/books, but they must relate to Firefly in some way. This is not a website about SNL, and I can see no relationship between Firefly and Saturday Night Live. Don't say things to other people without considering how it would make you feel, if they had said those things to you.

To recap:

1. There should never be a thread about you, unless your name is Mal-Licious. (*alright, who said that!? this is getting scary*)

2. Stay on topic, or at least try to tie your off-topic post into Firefly, in some way.

3. When it comes to the tone of your posts, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." A great Man said that, and I believe it. Do you?

Further lessons will follow, if necessary. But I think that'll get you heading in the right direction. After a week or two of non-self-centered posts -- spelled so people can understand them -- composed of Firefly-related content, you should start getting some tolerance, if not respect from the other regulars.

It's going to be a slow and possibly painful process, though. Some will undoubtedly flame you based on your past posts. But if you stick it out and take your lumps, they'll eventually forget all this nonsense and make you feel like part of the community.

Remember, it's nobody's fault but your own. You must either make amends, quit in failure, or keep getting your backside tarred every time you post.

Respectfully,

zoid

P.S.
sanmi77: A second request: AGE and GENDER, please. Nationality would be good, too, especially if you are a non-native English speaker. Help us understand you, by giving us some basic hints.

Yeah, I had noticed a headline for a story on the Cowboys website that the Joneses had visited Bidwell for the stadium launch. I didn't read the story, mind you, because the 'business end' doesn't interest me.

Where's it going to be? Phoenix? Tucson? Arizona has had a championship franchise in baseball (something Texas has never had) and a highly successful one in basketball. There's no reason except one why y'all can't have a successful football franchise someday, too. (Think: A lone gunman or three, a high-powered rifle and Bill Bidwell.)

The Cowboys and Cardinals continue to have a good business relationship, even though the competitive aspect has been pretty one-sided since the mid-70's (Jim Hart at QB, team still in St. Louis)...

I certainly hope so. I'd hate to think we were shunning a neophyte simply for being naive and ignorant of etiquette.

But I'm still betting sanmi77's a 'she', not a 'he'. The style and content are all wrong for a male misfit. I think that she's making a genuine effort to make herself more palatable, by drastically reducing her misspells/misuses. I'll address her disuse of punctuation at a later date, once things normalize a bit. For now, she's at least understandable; I'm seeing improvement.

If this was a 'nugget' clone or multiple personality, the spelling would be getting worse not better, and there'd be a lot more name calling, instead of just complaining about being misunderstood. And the name calling wouldn't be limited to the forgivable "you people"; it'd be specific and vulgar.

We'll just have to wait and see if Humility is part of her repertoire. If so, there's some hope for her becoming one of us, and I like new voices. If not, then she will undoubtedly continue to get punished until she finally just quits...

As much as I respect Zoid, I must say this. . .

"Flaming" a troll (which, I believe Sanmi is NOT) has no effect save to give the flamer a small ammount of smug satisfaction.

See. . .trolls surround themselves in an air of superiority to those being 'trolled'. Our flame-a-rific responses to them only feed their egos and give them more to chew on.

I see similar behavioral traits in my students (middle school). These individuals are convinced that everything they say is right and that they know more than everyone else.

For the love of God. . .if you have a problem with another poster, folks. . .IGNORE that poster. If they ARE a troll, you're only feeding the beast. If they are NOT a troll, you're making us look like trolls ourselves.

It's SO EASY to NOT READ something.

Agreed. Don't feed the trolls. Since we don't currently have a 'report post' button, just e-mail Haken or myself via our profiles and if someone is indeed trolling, we'll move the threads to Troll Country (or delete individual posts as needed).

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

Beatle:

Are you happy with the new stadium's design? On the positive side, the interior view is reminiscent of Bank One Ballpark's 'daylight' outfield. The outside view has got a little too much 'circus tent' going on, IMO.

But if the fans are happy, who am I to grumble? And ultimately, it's not about how it looks, it's about whether or not it entices fans to attend games and whether or not it serves the fans' needs for comfort and identification with the team. As long as the stadium says "Home of My Team, the Arizona Cardinals" in the fans' minds, then it will be a success.

Shiny:

So who was responsible for leaving "ask ndugu" on the GenDis board, rather than flushing it to Troll Country? It was a total flame-fest from beginning to end. No socially redeeming commentary.

As I told Mal-Licious in a personal message, I don't chase 'em into Troll Country; but if y'all leave 'em out here to abuse good folk, I'm gonna rip 'em a new one, every time...

Respectfully,

zoid

P.S.
It's still not too late to act on that request, either. I don't particularly want "ask ndugu" on GenDis' "Read Threads That Have Been Archived" page either, yet, there it is. That thread belongs in Troll Country, period.

it's "Let he who is without sin..." in the bible. But luckily, you didn't quote the bible. So I can smack you with rocks.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough time to visit FFF.net every day or read every thread, that's why I asked that people at least send us an e-mail to alert us to problems. I've moved the "ask ndugu" thread to Troll Country. Please let me know if any other trolls pop up.

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

Thanks for taking care of that, Shiny. And I'll be sure and 'Message' you from your Profile page, when we get another 'un. Haken must be really busy. I've 'messaged' him a couple times (like twice) about differing issues and never received any response...

Respectfully,

zoid
