There are many good germans. Like David Hasselhoff, who was not born in Germany, but is German and is very popular with the German people. Another is Joss Ackland, who is an actor and is not related to Joss Whedon (joss is his first name.) I believe Joss Ackland is eiterh german or english or from South Africa like Charlize Theron. Either way he is kind of german because the English are part german and the south africans are Dutch. The Pennsylvania Dutch are German though. What's up with that?

Pass the dutchie pan a left hand side.

Chrlize Theron is hot. If they couldn't get Morena Baccarin for the movie, I would hope they would get her to play Inara.

Dude, I have to give you props - you know your Joss Ackland. I checked out imdb.com and it turns out he's from London. He also made and uncredited appearance in the Pet Shop Boys video!

Nice picture of Jewel, but it's hard to type with one hand.

dude! Pass the Dutchie! Musical Youth, mon!

from the BBC's
Quote:

top five drug songs

Quote:

MUSICAL YOUTH 'PASS THE DUTCHIE'
Muscial Youth, a group of Jamaican lads from Brummagem recorded this massive No.1 hit single back in the heady days of 1982, and were the darlings of the media. Come on, who could resist, cute kids playing reggae. The tabloids loved them, no-one could get enough. The single spent a wearying 12 weeks on the charts. Unfortunately the songs was actually based on The Mighty Diamonds' 'Pass the Kouchie', Kouchie being Jamaican patois for a pipe full of marijuana. A dutchie, however, was a cooking pot, so no-one realised that the song had drug origins until much later. When the single was at No.1, and the papers had yet to figure it out, it's hard not to imagine the whole of Birmingham in utter hysterics!

I'm probably a little older than most of you Firefly fans out there - I'm a small business man, supplying water coolers and vending machines to offices and other places of business. My kids got me into Firefly. As a life-long libertarian I was attracted to it's anti-authoritarian message from the first episode.

Anyway, to get to the point, I have been making regular trips to Vegas and Reno for the last twenty-five years and I must have seen Siegfried and Roy twenty times at least. I don't know much about Mr. Whedon other than I like his show and I don't want to show him any disrespect, but to fill in for Roy Horn would take an awful lot of skill. Those tigers don't take guff from anyone! So anyway, I find this whole thing a little hard to swallow! (that's what SHE said! - Sorry, last time I was in in Vegas I caught Buddy Hackett's show and it's a little blue).

I heartily concur with Succatash on this. I'm an old guy and I have to say that, Firefly aside, today's entertainers are just not up to the standard of those of yesteryear. NO OFFENSE TO JOSS WHEDON, I think he's a brillian writer and director, but I still say he couldn't have the kind of all-around talent that would allow him to fill in for Roy Horn as a magician and tiger tamer. Now, Sammy Davis Jr. for instance, might have pulled it off. He could dance, sing, act and do that fancy western gun twirling. Sometimes I like to fantasize about what Firefly would have been like if the Rat Pack had starred in it - Frank would (obviously) be Mal, Dino would be Jayne, I guess Peter Lawford would be Book and Sammy would be the pilot guy (whose name escapes me). As for the ladies, Marilyn could be Inara, Joey Heatherton could be Kaylee, Eartha Kitt could play Gina Torres's part and Shirley McClaine could play River 'cause she's crazy! I'd love to have seen Bobby Darin guest star but he left us so young.

I don't see why you'd want to see different people in Firefly. I'd like to see the cast of Firefly return for a different show. Their all so talented. It could be like After M*A*S*H but good. Like they could all play the same characters, but now they own a gas station or a restaurant or they all make souvenirs and sell them by the road or they could have a musical variety show like the Brady Bunch Hour.

I would like to see Nathan Fillion play Stanley Kowalski in Streetcar someday. I also get a gut feeling that Morena Baccarin would a perfect Sandy in Grease. Has anyone else bought the video of Xanadu?

Good to hear it. I am damn sick of the media only giving us the Democratic-liberal-Jewish view of things and I'd like to take the time to thank Joss Whedon personally for giving a voice to those of us who wish to live free of governmental restrictions.

For example - I am a member of the Redeemed Church of Canaan, which is a very obscure off-shoot of the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons). One of the teachings of my faith is we believe in polygamy. I recently saw Jerry Falwell on TV comparing polygamy to the North American Man-Boy Love Association! This is specious at best. What goes on between two, three, or fourteen consenting adults can hardly be compared to homosexual child abuse! The bible says that if a man lays with another man it is a sin, but my faith directs me to go forth and mulitply, yet the government feels that, despite the so-called separation of church and state, it can regulate my right to marry several woman at once! They have no problem with amoral libertines marrying several people over a lifetime - polluting each others sacred bodily temples with the juices and discharges of strangers! Yet they see me as depraved! I for one have had enough!

So, in conclusion, thank you Joss Whedon!

This thread speaks to me on many levels. Perhaps I should explain. I have been diagnosed as schizophrenic and have been on medication for this disorder since last May. Previous to this I could not use a standard bathroom commode because of my irrational fear that the Welsh Fusiliers were staging a bayonet attack from the sewer that would result in my having a lacerated backside also with puncture wounds. I also believed that Abraham Lincoln lived in my sink drain. Most of my illness revolved around plumbing, perhaps stemming from an infection of the prostate I had at the age of thirteen.

I am also a recovering porn addict. Firefly has helped me with this too. I began my recovery when a friend, also a porn addict, died in tragic circumstances. He had become a recluse and covered every flat surface of his apartment with pornographic material. When the police entered his apartment after a neighbor reported a bad smell (his rotting body) they said it was very disorienting because of all the porno it was hard to tell where the walls stopped and the cieling and floors began. My friend had also constructed a wire frame that he could wear on his head which contained pornographic material - this way he would never have to stop looking at porno. One day while wearing the wire contraption he stood on a chair to change a light bulb and fell off. The wire contraption hooked onto the light fixture and he hanged himself. This event made me give up pornography.

My only problem was I still wanted to look at porn. I was abstaining, but the desire was still there. Until I found Firefly. For some reason Firefly has lessened my need to masturbate to pornography. I still do masturbate, but now it is only 2 to 3 times daily (down from 10 to 20) and only to TV guide, Oprah magazine, and the Reader's Digest joke section.

Have any of you read Sophie's Choice? You know at the end when she is making love to Stingo and she says "I can't stop coming"? That's how I feel about Firefly, except it is a spiritual ejaculation I experience.

I live trouserless because the feeling of cold air on my lower extremities (nether regions) reminds me of the bitter cold experienced by the brave men who built the Alcan Highway during the Second World War. Stretching from Dawson Creek, BC to Fairbanks, Alaska, it was a major part of our Victory over the Axis, including the liberation of the Aleutian Islands from Japanese occupation. That is why I wear no pants.
