Heyo.

*SPOILERS*

I was wondering, is there anyone who has the Visual Companion, AND has seen the final cut of the film? If so, do you know which scenes in the shooting script were cut?

I know the Sheydra scene was cut, because the book says so, but it doesn't say what else was. I saw the May 26th screening, so it's been a while.

Like, for instance, was the scene with Mal watching the video of Inara, Kaylee and River in Inara's shuttle cut? And the scene with Mal and Inara after they saw Dr. Caron's message on Miranda?

Because that first scene is important in establishing Inara's profession for new people, and gives her a connection to Mal other than just Kaylee's comments, and the next scene is a big moment for their relationship, which makes Inara's "I don't know" at the end, in regards to whether or not she wants to return to the training house, all that more meaningful.

Thanks to anyone who can offer help.

"I didn't look through the...stuff."

Th scene on Miranda is not in the film(saw it last night) All I have to say is Joss said there waont be a director's cut,but every gorram deleated scene better be on the disc somewhere

"It's about how much freedom you can take away from somebody before they either fold or fight," Whedon says. "It's about the right to be wrong and the nature of human beings, that they need the freedom to be wrong. That they cannot be made to be better or perfect."--Joss Whedon on Serenity

Sigh. Thanks, NakedAndArticulate. Makes me sad, that does. Cause as I said elsewhere:

Select to view spoiler:

Cause first you have the video, then the stumbling talk over the wave, then his coming to her aid, and her being the one who bails him out (heh), then the Miranda scene, them looking at each other as he takes the lift to go broadcast the signal, then the end beat.

I'm sure there are other looks and non-verbal things, but those scenes, all taken together, give Mal and Inara a nice arc, and makes me giddy for possible developments in the sequel.

"Why didn't you make me stay?"

Actually the "I don't know" relates to a missing part of an existing scene:

jayne: you dumbass hogs, the only people shes a threat to are us on this boat.

missing part:
jayne: we take a shuttle, we drop her off and we get 'em off our backs--
zoe: you think it stops there? what if they keep coming--
jayne: and what if she pops again?
inara (to mal): you cant keep her in the storage locker forever mal.
what are you gonna do when--
mal: i dont know
inara: "i dont know" is not a good answer

end missing part

mal: look, we get back to haven in a few hours time...
jayne: hiding under the shepard's skirts, that's a manful scheme--
mal: you wanna run this ship?
jayne: yes!
mal: well you can't

"I swallowed a bug"

Its in the Official Visual Companion. Also, the novel is pretty faithful to the script.

There are links to both of those book at Amazon on the home page for this site www.fireflyfans.net (on the left side under the 9 minute preview logo)

YT

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

That's so short (what, 20 seconds?), seems unlikely it was cut for time. Yet it changes how I hear Mal's response. Not a lot, of course, 'cause the principal meaning is inherent in Inara's smile. Do you suppose maybe Joss dropped it because, after cutting out most of the Mal/Inara relationship, he didn't want anything to dilute that last exchange betwixt 'em?

I'd like something clarified, if anyone can help.

The cut scene with Sheydra, was it filmed? I've looked on imdb and she's not listed.

If it wasn't filmed, perhaps that's who Shorheh Agdalashoo was supposed to play. Just speculation.
