If you're going to make your way in the 'Verse, best to understand a bit about its planets and moons. Don't expect to learn everything here—just enough to keep flyin'. For now. The black holds its secrets close. 'Fore you go out, take a little knowledge with you.

I wouldn't get too generous with the thanks. Iskellian has just clipped the entire background section from the Serenity RPG - a big, big uncool thing to do.

You'd need to check with margaret weiss productions, ltd. since it's from their book.

While it's nice to share stuff, it isn't cool to quote someone as massively as this without citing your source. It gives the impression that you researched all this yourself.

Let's not come down too hard on Iskellian thought; I think this can be chalked up to over-enthusiasm for a real neat write-up, rather than deliberate plagerism.

I'll go ahead and assume that there was no malicious intent here, and just a case of enthusiasm gone a bit too far. For those who weren't sure, that represents a fair chunk of text cut-and-pasted directly from the Serenity Role Playing Game written and designed by myself and a hard-working team of paid freelance writers. Re-posting a block of text like this is a violation of copyright law -- and in thise case, the copyright does not belong to my company, but rather Universal, the company that brought our shiny movie to the big screen.

I would much rather not have to inform the company's legal department about this, as I do believe this was just a misstep. Hopefully most of you would agree that it's better to keep the Firefly/Serenity fan community in a positive light.

Admin/Moderator: I would appreciate it if the original post (or the violating content) was deleted.

To all the fans, sorry for having to make this request -- but please understand that enforcing this sort of thing is built into our contract. Also, as a publisher, it's very disheartening to work so very hard on something and then see it casually tossed out on the Internet for free.

If you'd like to see this information in context, with graphics and pictures, please check out the Serenity Role Playing Game, available at hobby game stores, book stores, Amazon.com, or from the store link at www.serenityrpg.com.

Hmm. I'm sorry if this has caused any trouble for the site. I truly met nothing negative by this, I was just trying to enlighten my fellow browncoats. It still would be a real shame if this thread is deleted. Anyway, if it is deleted, I hope everyone saves a copy of this on their computer.

Iskellian,

I have no doubt that you mean well, but sometimes as a fan it's hard to understand that by distributing information like that it's legally and ethically akin to stealing. Writing and publishing game books and fiction are what ultimately pays my rent and feeds my children -- so you can understand my need to be protective of my livelihood. Another thing that's confusing is you did not name your source for this information, making it seem to many as if you wrote the above passages, which is whole 'nother can of worms.

Same thing goes for file-sharing movies, music, and television shows. Though as a fan it just feels like you're just spreading something you love far and wide, you are actually taking away from the folks who created the things you loved in the first place.

I hope that everyone interested in this thread considers geting their own copy of the book, so they can see this information and much more. Quoting small portions of text and citing your source is usally just fine, but anything more than a paragraph is getting into murky legal territory.

Sorry to be a buzzkill, folks, but I want to keep my job and bring you even more great Serenity material for the future. This is part of the job. Thanks!

...is it ok if I sound a bit fan-ish and say that I absolutely loved every line of the Serenity RPG book? I bought one for myself, had no problem convincing my friends to get a copy, and bought one for my best friend (who got me into Firefly in the first place) for Christmas? I keep telling folks that it's written just as if a fellow browncoat penned the whole work, and it shows.

I hope there's no big deal with my C&Ping (and citing) a couple paragraphs from the intro script to one of the chapters? Topic was something about cloning Washes, and it seemed to fit. But, yeah, given the descriptions this sounds like a great deal more was pasted here. KF

Lord, I'm walking your way. Let me in, for my feet are sore, my clothes are ragged.
Look in my eyes, Lord, and my sins will play out on them as on a screen. Read them all.
Forgive what you can and send me on my path. I will walk on until you bid me rest.
