Quote:Originally posted by yellowjacket: I certainly think that Shepherd Book's death deserves an honorable mention. As for Wash... I remember walking out of the theater and everyone said, "What a horrible waste for Wash to die like that." I just looked at them and said, "Do you really think so? It seemed poignant to me. He died just a moment after achieving what every pilot hopes to achieve when the chips are down. He brought the ship to a safe, albiet butt-clenching stop, after a free fall of epic proportions. Sure he died, but only after saving the lives of every single person on board. The pure majesty of flight is always balanced by the pragmatism of returning safely to ground. Wash's death might seem meaningless to some, but not in my estimation."

To have fallen that far in your opinion of humanity (Especially since it is mostly MY opinion)is downright heart wrenching. -Danny The Band of the week is... Then, River in BDM: her monologue before "My Turn" River in Ariel "I don't want to go to sleep" River in Pilot "I didn't think you'd come for me" Kaylee's surgery in Pilot, wityh Jayne crouching outside sickbay. Out of Gas: Jayne's farewell to Mal. War Stories: Wash explaining to Zoe "He's crazy"

But that scene does have the lines quoted by AuRaptor above. Those are sad once the story is known, but I think the power of those lines are diluted by the relevant flashback coming afterwards. But if River did say that about her Dad and Simon, it could have also been sad, given Summer's delivery.
