VINTERDRAKEN


Working on a chronicle at the moment in the Serenity RPG and ive started to design the spaceship that my players will be using.
The main thing I wanted with this ship was to have it bulky and ungracefull. Also I wanted it to have a cargobay that could be dumped just like a container on a cargohelicopter today. Another thing I wanted was to have a special captainsquarter that was seperated from the main crew quarters just like on a old ship. I know what this specifik ship will be named, but what I need is a name for this class of ship. Anyone got a tips?

Hi, this is my first post on this site. I saw the graphic for the new ship and thought it was really good.

I thought that it kinda looked like a cricket. I don't know if you want to be too similar to "Firefly" but I would name the class of ship "Cricket." Good luck!

Woops. Just noticed reference to "medium." Leviathan would have to be huge.

Medium size whale. H'm. Moby? But no association there with Deliverance, since only Ishmael survived Moby.

Small whale could be Orca class (killer whale).

Now comes Strand saying it looks like a duck, not a whale.

Clearly I am over-thinking this.

Back to Ships, not critters. How about Vasa class? Granted, it was a warship....

Like the name Vulture, but it doesnt fit this perticular ship.
But I have begun to design some new ships based on ideas Ive gotten from suggestions here. For example the Cricket Class Light Transport, and now I got a great idea for a Vulture Class Salvage Cruiser, old class of salvage ship, mostly used by illegal salvagers and Reavers these days.

Like the name Vulture, but it doesnt fit this perticular ship.

Ahoy, vinterdraken!

Could be some Swedish in my background, but it would be centuries back and there would be no way to sort it out by now, unless there's something special in the mitochondrial DNA.

I have seen Vasa, however, as a tourist in Stockholm.

All of these suggestions are so good that one could invent an entire scheme for naming ships.

Overnight, during my insomnia, I came up with Dragonfly and Mantis classes as being bigger than Firefly without being huge. "Deliverance" wouldn't be a good Mantis, however, as they are predatory.

(To us US-ians with any length of film-going experience, "Deliverance" conjures up images of primitive backwoods bad men, with a soundtrack of dueling banjos. It's hard to get around. Heh.)

The ship is a older model of salvage ship that isnt used very often by sanctioned salvagers anymore. It has the ability to dock with smaller ships in its scaffold for either salvage or repairs. also it boasts a large robotic arm that it can use to grapple its targets. The Vulture has "wings" and VTOL thrusters for Atmo travel but isnt really adapted to those conditions. Landing a vulture on a planet usually requires a special landing pad since its undercarriage lacks landing gear and has alot of equipment, its ATMO capabilitys are mostly for dropping of salvage on moons and such. Well the ship in my story is called the "LUDE TOO" and it is from an "old" Traveler sci-fi game, I once ran.
I agree a ships name is personnel in nature but it sometimes reflexs the type of work the ship does.
