Hey all! Channain had a lovely idea, so I'm putting it into action. This thread is where we're gonna put our OOC commentary for the "Badger's Betrayal" role play in the Firefly Universe. (Also known as "Adventures in Gunrunning" ~ maybe we'll pick a title before we're done! )

To get to the in-character RP thread:

Welcome to the backstage of our sandbox theater!

LOL! I just realized something really cool! This is like our own version of an episode with cast commentary (like on the DVDs). That is shiny, spiffy, and cool! Yay! *happy dance*

Okay we can give this a try, but I reserve the opinion that there are times when a strategically placed OOC in the roleplay thread itself can actually be beneficial. I can't come up with an example off the top of my head, but I also don't want to see either of these threads deteriorate into an argument where someone chooses to be a little OOCly in the actual roleplay thread. What if someone who's playing chooses not to peruse both of these threads equally? Or they usually do but that one time it actually matters they neglect coming in here and don't see some message that they shoulda seen?

Excellant idea!

Welcome to the 'real' Green Room?

So, I'll post here what I JUST posted on the 'Stage' thread ...

OOC
Heh heh, meebe we should have a "mission clock" with each post ...

IE:

SIMON'S MOVE
LOCATION : INFIRMARY 2023hrs
Book and Simon torture Niska with clog dancing music played on a kazoo.

JAYNE'S MOVE
LOCATION : INARA'S SHUTTLE 2021hrs
Inara moans softly in her sleep, startling Jayne as he ransacks her stash of classy porn.

Notice that Jaynes move is 2 minutes BEFORE Simon's move, even though Simon 'posted' first ...

Might help with the confusion ... sorry about the military time usage - habit!

Agreed, how about a OCC 'note' thus:

OCC: Kaylee

meaning there is a specfic OCC in the Green Room/OCC thread for the person playing Kaylee. A OCC GENERAL, would be for well general stuff. I think you get the idea.

OR an 'actor' could cut-n-paste the link to the OCC as thus :

http://fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=17&t=3384

In order to signal there is a OCC they posted ...

And of course, a combo of both ideas.

OCC: Avatar Help!

I would say comments on background work directly oriented for the story itself can stay in the "stage" post. Asking things like the locations of characters, letting everyone know the players have to fall down in bed and such can also stay there.

Topics like the recent conversation on my avatar changing to Jeannete Lee to better depict Rowan can be posted here.

CapnRahn, you're not asking me to do math, are you? I'm an artist, not a mathematician

Oh - hey, would you mind pulling the big Jeanette pic from the "stage" post? I mean, she's goh-geous and all, but speaking as one who has a measly 56K modem at home, that's going to make bringing up the stage post even boggier than it is already.

No math, just a way to keep things in time perspective. It is hard for readers to keep track, because every 'actor' posts at, sometimes radically, differant times of the real day.

Like all other of my 'ideas' - Jus' practicin'!

I feel a little out of place playing Kaylee here, folks. I mean, she doesn't really have any backstory, and she sure as hell doesn't have any secrets that she's keeping. That's just not in her character. Guess that's why my posts are so short. LOL...Kaylee seems like a kind of "filler". *sigh* Oh, well, trying my (sporadic) best.

CapnRahn, do you have any other pics of Kaylee? I'd love to change my avatar to one that not everyone else has access to. Might make my posts easier to find. Thanks!

Here's an idea that just popped into my head for Simon & Kaylee...

CapnRahn & I should get together on a time to meet up in Alpha Chat, where we would interact as our two counterparts. THEN, one of us would post the whole conversation in one solid go, so no waiting around to hear what the other one would say. Might make it flow a little more naturally...

BACK TO AVATARS...
Sure, I'll post them in the Blue Sun Room and post a link here. That way you'll have a selection.

Ya know, Kaylee and Simon have ONLY held hands, in "Message" ... or am I wrong?

EDIT TO BOOMER
Great idea. It would be good for anybody doing a scene together to do that.

I am puppeting Book at the moment, but want Maniac to have input after I post. but that means editing and all that.

The Chat idead would help alot ... or something we could cut the good dialogue out of and then past it into a post for the 'Stage' thread.

The only real challenge I see there is to be able to be online at the same time as the people you're doing the scene with ~ which is something we haven't quite mastered yet. Might require making "dates" to be online with the folks you intend to interact with, but it could be done.

Excellent idea here, esp. for me since I can't use IM or chat at work. Highspeed cable arrived just in time to let me keep multiple windouws open.

May I be the first to beg a little plotpoint support? When Mal, Zoe, et al get to the bar tell the bartender who you're looking for, and when he points to the disreputable heap on the floor ask him if he's Thorne.

By the way, could I ask a silly question? I still don't have a lot of the Chinese phrases memorized yet, and it takes a good long while to look up the scripts to get the translations. (Zoe doesn't speak a whole lotta Chinese in general, apparently - I checked.) When the characters start "spewing" Chinese, could we post the translations in brackets <>? I know I'd appreciate it, and those that don't have access to the Pinyinary might, too.

Thanks bunches!

You just saved me the trouble of asking if it would be too distracting to add translations. Being an Asian character, I figured Chinese would come as easily to Rowan as swearing in Arabic does for me. I think to keep the story flow, I'll add translations in brackets <> at the bottom of my posts. That kosher with ya'll?

BoomerGoodheart said: "I feel a little out of place playing Kaylee here, folks..."

I thought you were doing fine. If you're finding her skin kinda itchy? Try watching "Out Of Gas" again. There's plenty of meat there for Kaylee. Also "The Message" where she gets kinda entranced by the voice of Jonathan Woodward's character. Oh! And the ballroom scenes in "Shindig" and the events that led up to Malcolm getting her the dress.

Kaylee's thing is that everything she does sounds innocent because from her perspective even illegal or amoral behavior is all part of the cycle of life. She's like a.. uhm, like a carefree woodland spirit like a wood nymph or somethin'. She can hang around with base and disgusting satyrs and make them look like they're not so bad. She probably couldn't or wouldn't describe it in detail, but she just goes with the flow and does what comes natural.

Think Willow or Fred but without the self-conscious scruples. Kaylee never looks back with regret. She's always in the moment. I think you got her technospeak approach down solid. In other words she doesn't have any. The ship don't go cuz this don't work. If I fix this then she will go. Kinda Paklet mentality, to draw an obscure reference from STNG.

I assure you if you just delve into her character a little bit you'll feel more comfortable with her. She's "easy as lyin'" to get a grip on. She's a creature of nature, and communes with nature through the ship. There's a very weird combination of pagan and zen going on with her but if you just think of every molecule in the world as connected to the whole 'verse, you should do fine. =)

Hara (or is it Hera) - Border world was it not?

In the battle scenes it looks like places around San Bernindo CA I have been. Great hills and ravines and the like.

Heh, they may have filmed there!

There SHOULD be docks, think about the landing area in "Serenity".

If it was considered the 'final' battle of the war, it should be a bustling planet, but still a border world.

I am at a loss, anybody else got better info?

SIDE NOTE- I contacted an old aquaintance at zoic studios (CGI company that did Firefly) he actually remembered me from our days of huskering at SciFi conventions. I am trying to get him to vist here more often.

CHANNAIN-I just made up the story elements as I went. Figured story would kind of write itself if given a basic structure. However, Hara is not a core planet. But it does have strategic value to Alliance commerce. Acts as a way-point between core planets and outer rim worlds. Moderate industry. Some small shipyards for repairwork, upgrades, and overhauls. Shopping centers, tourism of war sites. Some farming and lumber work. Has more alliance patrols lately due to Reaver attacks infringing upon shipping lanes. These are just some general concepts. Also has a thriving black market underground economy run predominately by former Independent Browncoats. Perhaps Rowan and Thorne know of other local nuances that will be revealed later?

yes, you're right, the door was locked. I went out and then after returning, locked it again. I didn't notice that you'd closed the blinds already... oh well.
I'm afraid I can't join you on the IRC tonight. I am currently shindigging at Tash's house, and checking in once in a while to see how things progress.

Thanks for the avatar, CapnRahn! I've sent it to Haken...hopefully he'll work his magic pretty soon.
