But it does have strategic value to Alliance commerce. Acts as a way-point between core planets and outer rim worlds. Moderate industry. Some small shipyards for repairwork, upgrades, and overhauls. Shopping centers, tourism of war sites. Some farming and lumber work. Has more alliance patrols lately due to Reaver attacks infringing upon shipping lanes. These are just some general concepts. Also has a thriving black market underground economy run predominately by former Independent Browncoats. Perhaps Rowan and Thorne know of other local nuances that will be revealed later?

Well, I see you've been to Hara before. Got it first time. You'll also remember that despite the strong Alliance presence, there is no love lost between the purple-bellies and the locals, who remember the atrocities during the war, ending with the carpet-bombing of the Serenity Valley. It's still a lifeless wasteland after several years.

Family ties are very important, and even distant relations can expect help and support. Local police are "realistic" about the unauthorized trade which takes place (probably because it likely involves a relative or two), but are otherwise generally honest.

As usual outside the Core, most everyone is armed. Usually pretty peaceful, though. If you shoot another local without a darn good reason, their family will be in touch.

Great post CapnRahn!!! I will make my post later tonight .... in a few hours ... as I am gettin' loaded and I can't think straight. Soon enough that danm Niska will be spillin' his stinkin guts.... you wanna take the lead on the interrogation while I'm gone or wait for me? either way I am good. I will presume that Book helps Simon up, and asks what he did, but I can't think further right now.

CHANNAIN-You're welcome. Hope the info was helpful. There are no small parts. It's entirely what you guys make of it. I personally think that we don't need to go entirely off of series eps. Kind of fun to make up new characters and adventures of our own. I think we've really lucked out and found a good group of writers that think creatively, and at times,on their feet as well. Hope you enjoy the RPing. (P.S.:Checked out your art site. You should post your work on Image Gallery for this site. My fave is The Muse. Reminds me of Inara. Beautiful work.)

GEEZER-Yeah, I like the idea of shady cops. Was playing with the idea of a local Maffia. Then thought Maffia would be good story for later RP. I like your ideas pertaining to the local's eye for an eye philosophy. Wonder if the Shepherd could be used in this regard? Perhaps Serenity could also smuggle some Tequilla as well as weapons? I look forward to seeing what you do with Thorne character.

If there were a Firefly Bible on the Internet, I think we'd've found it by now.

http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=16&t=1882

That was a recent thread where people tried to find it but the thread deteriorated into people talking about the King James Bible and whether or not the translation is dependable.. or something. And talk about the Star Trek bible. I have a copy of the first season for STNG. It didn't even mention Worf yet. Still have it around here somewhere. It's probably keeping an end table steady or something.

But I don't think the Firefly Bible was ever made publically available. So we might have to make our own.

I am working on a character rundown for Inara. Should I post it in here or start a new thread?

I was wondering what y'all got out reading of the Infirmary scene.

I got some specfic ideas for further-down-the-road character arcs (not just for Simon)... but wanted to see if I had "planted the foreshadowing seeds" correctly.

So, just let me know what ya think of the full Infirmary moves.

Yes, I have been trying to collate the posts into their 'scene/set/location' pieces IE Bridge, Inara's Shuttle, Infirmary, Reaver Ship, and Transit(walkin' and talkin' from one location to another)etc...

If Astriana is amenable and since we seem to be 'working in parallel', I would like to work together in formatting our little RP into a script and keep it updated as we go.

Thoughts?

CAPNRAHN-I reread you're Infirmary posts. Am intrigued with direction you're taking Simon in RP. Hidden agendas and skills are always a plus. Nice segue into an interesting side story off main plot. I like the interaction between Book and Simon. Good character development. Oh, and the script update is a VERY good idea. Kind of got lost where everyone was in the RP for a while.

During the break. while installing a DVD R/W on the computer(Look out Capn, I'll be an image clippin' fool soon!) I worked out a bit of Thorne's backstory. This is always malleable if needed down the line.

Thorne is a native of Hara, and was the second son of a well-off farm family which lived in Serenity Valley(where else?). As the second son, he goes into the military, which at that time meant the Alliance forces. My Avatar is his graduation picture from the military academy. (A cyber-cookie to the one that tells me who the picture actually is.) Thorne doesn't talk much about his time in Alliance service, but is a colonel by the time of the Unification war.

At the start of the war, he resigns his Alliance commission and volunteers to fight for the Independents. This is not a popular decicion with his family, who support unification. Due to his prior military experience, Thorne is involved with strategic planning, but, also due to other prior experience, he spends some time on clandestine operations to obtain weapons and supplies.

After the war is lost, Thorne returns to Hara, although he now has no ties there. His sister moved off-world years ago and the rest of his family were lost in the devastation of Serenity Valley. He uses contacts developed during the war to open an import/export business that is quite successful, if somewhat less than 100% legal.

Thorne is well traveled, and at home in a variety of cultures and social levels. Somewhat of an antiquarian, he loves ancient music, literature, movies, video, and popular culture. His language is sprinkled with 600 years of slang and catchphrases. For some unknown reason he refuses to speak Chinese, but throws in an occasional word in other Earth-that-was languages, which few understand. In business he is direct to the point of bluntness, but when socializing can get quite verbose.

He likes a drink now and again, and occasionally goes on a real toot, as though he were trying to forget something. Enjoys good food (and can cook his own), although once again no Chinese. Likes women, but isn't involved with any one at this time.

Also, as noted before: about 50, good shape, left-handed, right ear missing, short salt&pepper hair, clean shaven, well armed.

Thanx Humble!

Geezer - Tahnx to you too! As a non-canon guest-star you have free reign on your back story.

Do you mind if I include it in the RPs show 'bible', if I do one?

Just a Note - I am thinking of starting an RP, but not the crew of the Serenity.

It would be a group of disaffected Alliance folk and retired Federal Marshals who found out the hard way that they were used. They don't feel they were on the right side of the war.

So, they quit their jobs or (if military) were 'rolled-out'. The main cast is based around a Fighter Craft Crew Chief (forcably reitred Seinor Master Sergant) by the name of Marovech Rahn.
(yep, the name is from an old DnD Character and the last is, of course, my ID )

He and his 'sympathizers' (engineers and his ground crew)scavanged and 'kitbashed' their own ship out of - primarly -Firefly class transports. It is slightly bigger and to keep within the 'bug' aspect, I am calling the 'new' class the 'Dragonfly Class Frigate'

I'll post a synop and ship drawings in another thread as soon as I have it fleshed out.

First impression: Wow.

Afterthoughts: (You did want criticism, right?) I would suggest placing the higher engine near the back. When travelling over a planet's surface, all engines would have to tilt 45 degrees to accelerate at 1G (1G push forward, 1G push against gravity) and the higher engine's exhaust would strike the lower engine, reducing the overall acceleration.

Of course, in this situation they could act independantly - the rear engine pointed straight back and the front engine straight down.

It looks like a dragonfly with the extra engines.

I could NOT resist giving Boomer the "Strawberry Orgasm" screen-cap as her Avatar ... I sat down and framed it until I got the look I liked and s-capped it.

Actually, in 'real-life" I am a AF ex-Avionics Tech.

I have the fwd engine set so a 'power boost' could be done by directing both engines 45 degrees (up or down)and the fore/dorsal engines exuast (mixed correctly by the pilot) feeds the aft/ventral engine ... it think it is called hot fuel packing or somesuch. End result: Zoooooom!

Yoiu catch the 4 shuttles and the "Starship Trooper" esque retrevial ship planted on the nose?

Heh, wait till you see the aft towed {collapsable) cargo containers ... makes you think even More of a Dragonfly.

I'd just like to say, that I love what you all are doing here, and have to complement you all on the excellent writing. It really (mostly) reads like just another episode. And seeing as to the excellent quality of all the Firefly episodes, that is helluva job.

But now, curiosity has gotten the best of me. I've got a quick question about the little firefight that went down in act one, but before I ask the question (and cause I don't want to make you run back through all of act one to find the posts), I've taken the time to grab all the relevent portions of the posts in their chronological order, and prefaced them with the characters whom is taking the action. Pay attention to the numbers.

Quote:

(EARLY) 12 men, plus Early and Niska. The deadly team opens the bay door of Niska's ship and they float silently into space. Towards Serenity.

Quote:

(ZOE) Creeps quietly through the ship, gun positioned against her shoulder, keeping an eye out for intruders. As she nears the entrance of the Cargo Bay, she slows and checks the positioning of Niska's men. Seeing a clean shot from her cover, she opens fire, taking out those in her sights.

Quote:

(NISKA) NISKA ducks down as ZOE kills three of his henchmen

Quote:

(MAL) Signals Zoe that all is well with him, six dead.

Quote:

(JAYNE) Jayne gets to the walkway above the cargo bay, take a quick look around to get the enemy positioning, and takes two quick bursts shots with Vera. The powerful rounds rain down onto Niksa's men taking one through the throat, passing through to stike the man behind him in the abdomen, both fly back and crumple in a heap. Several rounds ricochet around the hold while more rounds find their deadly journey's end in Niksa's men. At the end of the short exchange 8 of the intruders lie dead or dying on the cargo floor between Mal and his shots.

So we've got 3 killed by Zoe. 6 Killed by Mal. 2 that Jayne shot, and Jayne claims in total, between him and Mal, they killed 8. Well, hate to break it to Jayne, but 6+2 is 8, so he didn't get anymore kills added to his belt. Of course, long as Mal's not there to say how many he shot, Jayne can get away with the bragging

But that's not the important thing. The important thing is that 3+6+2=11. And there were 12 men (Unless of course, Early can't count. And while I am highly suspicious of his mental state, I do believe that he wouldn't make a mistake like that when going into a combat situation... plus, ya don't need to take off your shoes to count to twelve, just use each foot as one... :)

Now... where'd that last one go? ^_^

Stopped in briefly to see what's up. Yes Wash is on the bridge now and apparently so is Jayne, but Jayne has reported having souped up the Mule which is quite a trick cuz Zoe, Mal & Kaylee took the mule with them didn't they? I mean, they went to get the cargo. So I need some clarification before I can continue my move.

One possible solution is that Niska's men may have brought with them a second mule. That's a bit of a stretch though. I'm just looking for an answer that won't disrupt anyone's moves.

Yes, I believe Mal took a radio with him, but generally Wash wouldn't call Mal on it cuz he might catch Mal at a time inappropriate for the thing. Wash could however 'beep' Mal, I suppose. Shall Wash do that?

re the alliance comms Book is intercepting: Thorne is a native of Hara, not an off-worlder. Probably pretty well known to the local constables, too. This is important to his storyline, so if you could do some tweaking I'd appreciate it. Perhaps throw in another line when the cops get closer. i.e. "Stupid rookie. Thats not an off-worlder, it's just Thorne."

Edit: see you fixed it. Too many threads to juggle.

Zoe definitely has a radio with her, and maybe we can explain the mule thing with having more than one? SerenitysSon's post talks about it being the older, beat up mule - maybe the same on that took damage in War Stories when they went to rescue Mal and Wash. Could be that with the take from selling the Lassiter, they decided to buy a brand-spanking-new one, and just never ditched the old one... (Just makin' stuff up, here. Whatever helps.. )

I thought the reference to an offworlder that Book overheard the alliance say was in reference to Mal, and not Thorne. Did I read that wrong? I just skimmed it.

As for the second mule, it's not canon so we'd have to explain it somehow. The more we add though, the more apocryphal the storyline becomes. I'm being apocryphal with Wash, granted. However I'm trying not to make any permanent changes to him.

Little stuff like two mules doesn't bother me personally, but there's a few areas where I'd be tempted to walk if we ventured into them. Like for example aliens. If anyone comes along playing a nonhuman aka extra terrestrial type, I'll take issue with that. But suddenly saying we got two mules when the series always specified only having one (that got beat up in War Stories, granted), I can live with that.

Okay, we're gonna hafta start a new thread for the OOC commentary soon. I'll just go ahead and do it now.

OOC 2: http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=17&t=3417

Zachsmind: I totally agree. I'd like to keep to the original series canon where we can. The only real advantage to the show having been cut off so soon is that we're left with some room for play in several areas. Case in point: Inara's needle and Book's background.

BTW, Geezer, like your new avatar! Shiny!
