a little synopsis to make things easier for me...

Capn, Zoe and Kaylee went into Hara city, Zoe and Mal entered the Hara Cary Bar looking for Thorne, their contact.

Thorne apparently drunk, sobers quickly when he sees them.

The bar is being watched by Alliance, who have other dealings going on nearby.

Wash is on the bridge awaiting news.

Book and Jayne are in the cargo bay, getting ready to do something.

Simon and River and in the infirmary with Niska?

Inara is in either her shuttle or Jayne's room.

Corrections:

BOOK and JAYNE are actually on the bridge, getting ready to step in if MAL and ZOE need help with the Feds.

INARA is planetside, taking care of that needle business.

Suggestion for Ciara and Channain: Perhaps Rowan could hook up with the crew via Inara, since Inara is currently shopping at the docks?

Hard to know what is the best way to get Rowan on board.... Channain's creative though.

...and thanks for the correction.

Inara is planetside. Forgot about her latest post.

Jayne and Book are en route to the cargo bay... how's that for a friendly compromise?

It's an idea...let me mull it for a bit. I'd've posted Rowan "Out and about" except we had a guest over the weekend, and the computer was in her room.

I could see Rowan *hooking up* with Inara (easy fellas) but not spontaneously. Inara's been very diligent and particular about her clientele, and I doubt she would *pick up* just anyone off the street. Seems to me it doesn't work that way, and I'm a stickler for in-character rules.

Since Serenity has landed, seems like no one's logged her in as taking passengers, so Rowan wouldn't be able to check the kiosks. Ciara, I'm thinking Rowan and Inara meet and interact outside the ship.

Hey lookit! My new avatar is up.

I just posted a move for Kaylee. Rowan could meet up with both Inara & Kaylee. I imagine Inara might pigue her interest, as she seems out of place among the other people on the dock (more cultured, etc.). She might wonder what someone like that is doing down here, and ask if she's a passenger on a transport ship. Hmmm...it might make sense that way, as Kaylee was the one to find passengers in "Serenity".

Just a thought.

I just posted in response to Book's recent moves. If there's any need for clarification please feel free to ask me in here. My intent was to purposefully word the radio exchange so that it could be the same guys Book was listening to or it could be a completely different set of guys. Personally I'm thinking a completely different set of guys but y'all can run with it however you wanna.

I have an idea, that's kinda germinated from the afore mentioned radio garble, but the intent will be to allow a greater number of people to participate in this project if they're interested. It may or may not fly I'm just throwing it out there.

What if there's a contingent of Alliance personel who are after Reynolds partially because of his background with the Independents, but also because he's recently showed up on their radar due to extraneous events completely outside Reynolds sphere of vision? I'm talking about a second group, a group of ex-independents and newly recruited patriots, who function like a precursor to rebellion. They got ONE planet out there that they want to colonize solely for independent law - no alliance law allowed. There's no one on that planet right now who is for the Alliance. It's like one of the border planets out there. Rather insignificant one. This group of rebels has been talking about "capturing" Reynolds in a hope of talking him into leading their cause. And of course the Alliance contingent would be working to stop the rebels, and also would probably wanna bring Reynolds in for questioning cuz they think he's already been contacted and is for the rebellion, but honestly Reynolds is completely pleasantly surprised about all this fuss, if he ever figured out what was going on.

Kinda like the Jaynestown plot but a bit more serious. To make this work we'd need at least one newcomer to represent the Alliance forces in question, and one newcomer to represent the Independents. Not like, a big wig, but they'd each be rather respected in their respective chicken pecking orders. Like a major or a lieutenant or something. Enough clout to boss around some underlings but they'd also have to report to people (equivalent of non player characters) too.

The idea may need some fleshing out. We probably couldn't work it into immediate gameplay cuz I think we need to figure out what THIS plot is first and then wrap it up before we get to Act eight. However these voices that Book and Wash are hearing on the radio could be the above mentioned conflicting forces, Alliance versus Independents, who both treat Reynolds as a sorta football for their line of scrimmage.

Or we can just say the voices are talking about a completely different Reynolds altogether and get off this moon asap.

Gotta agree, it sounds like a really cool idea. Also gotta agree that we pro'ly shouldn't try to work it into THIS game, 'cause of the aforementioned wrapping up before Act 8 issue.

Okay, I wasn't going to give this up until later, but I thought with the way ZachsMind is running, I better pipe up.

Rowan's biggest secret does involve the Independent cause - or more accurately, she played a fairly involved part in it. I mentioned "the cause" just now in my latest post, so I am alluding to her role already and I'm thinking ya'll have figured out where I'm going - you're a pretty bright bunch.

She's not one of them that did the bossing around - at least not of the fighting troops. Her role was behind the scenes, supporting the Independent movement through subversive online communication. Think "Eyes Only" on Dark Angel, only geared toward the Cortex rather than broadcast TV, and you've got the idea. She was never identified, and prefers not to be since she's still sending things out from time to time it, and that's the main reason why she keeps moving - to stay under the Alliance radar.

I was actually going to use all this for a fan fic once upon a time. Decided to use it for this format instead. Now that I see we're going to wrap up the current storyline before Act 8, I'll keep it in the background - maybe Rowan will make it into the next RP? It'll be more fun to toy with the boys a little anyway.

I like these idea's. I didn't know we were trying to limit ourselves to 8 acts, or I might have made slightly less-involved posts. I think we can work this into the present plot, if we all work together. The key is narration, I think.
I love seeing people use their narrative skills as well as play their regular character... it sure does add depth and excitement to the game.

I wonder if we might need to impose a minor set of guidelines-- just to keep the game going? I know sometimes people are too busy with personal things or work sometimes... that's all understandable, but if we could get everyone to post at least once a day that would sure help to move things along. Thoughts?

I don't want to tramp on anybody's flower garden, I can accept it if we decide not to try to impose a few guidelines of play. It is all for fun after all.

I agree that if we could have some sort of guidelines for posting, that might be a good idea.

Also, I don't think we ever established a specific amount of time for play. It was mentioned at one point that if we were going to approach it like an episode, that we would have the teaser, Acts 1-5, and an epilogue of sorts for that format; however, the way it's been going so far is that we call it a new Act whenever we start a new thread. (Not necessarily based on action, although for the first couple, it seemed to pan out that way.)

We should probably decide how long we'd like this particular game to continue so we can identify how much more involved it could/should get before it's brought to a close and another adventure begins.

My only frame of reference for this from real life RP, and there the Game Master (GM) gives the guide for time frame, because he/she has a specific scenario in mind that they want to take the gamers through. I don't have any idea how it works when there's no GM.

Great minds DO run in the same channels. Now just where do you think a Conex full of military equipment would come in handy? I hadn't twigged on the "kidnap Mal as leader" idea, but had been considering a new Independent moon/planet being set up in secret being the client for Thorne's weapons. I wonder if the stuff in the two small crates at Dock 4 could be useful to them too?

The kidnap stuff would be interesting to develop, but I agree, some other time. Maybe just drop hints in 'Badger's Betrayal' of the new Indie planet.

BTW, do we need to get to the betrayal part pretty soon? The baddies have been on a pretty long break.

Yep, we need to have a 'bare bones' synopsis or act breakdown (for those aspiring screenwirters) and decide if the "episode" will be a solo, double triple etc.

If we keep in the episodic format, there are 6 to 7 'acts' ... Teaser, Acts 1-4 (or 5) and Coda for each episode.

For episodes that arc together it would be (2 parter as example) Teaser, Acts 1-10, Coda and so forth.

It allows us or the GM/Director to plot out what direction us/they want to go. AKA as a STORY/PLOT ARC. Some shows only have an 'A' ARC and 'B' ARC in every episode. Others, like Farscape and Firefly, try to have PLOT ARCS that interact with CHARACTER ARCS.

CHARACTER ARCS usually play out over many episodes ... Teela knows what I mean!

Character Arc Example
River's condition and rememdy is a good example. She has little 'bits, then there whole episodes that 'expose' what the smaller arcs hit and foreshadow at. "Ariel" and "Objects in Space" are the examples of 'whole' episodes that explain more about Rivers' condition.

Savvy?

BTW ... I found something that I was looking for as a prop ... the glasses part of the glasses/case thing in Simons' posts'. It was a prop idea I had before I even saw Firefly.

I'll have to post a pic later!

I find narrating for other characters a bit daunting. I'm usually afraid to do it, because I think the RP'er will think I'm trying to step on their creative toes.

So it's ok to narrate a little bit of people's part in the story?

ZACHSMIND-I'm so totally into your idea. Perhaps we could have Mal abducted and "recruited" by Independents or questioned by Alliance intel after landing on New Hikido? This could be premise for new RP adventure without breaking continuity of current story. Perhaps addition of new characters as well as usage of established ones. Yes! I'm liking it. Think we should draw up some sort of general outline of new RP adventure though. To keep story moving along and introduction of characters in a logical progression. Maybe could focus on other characters interaction and Mal takes a back seat in story?

It can be daunting, and I wouldn't do it to much extent for already existing cast members. I would say that you can take a little leeway with their reactions to what you say and give them an occasional few words to help everything out, but for characters who are non-cast, we should go crazy and have fun... like talking to the Alliance people or a bartender or dock worker or port control or any number of things.

You are, as ever, the calm in the eye of the storm Empress. Wise beyond your years. Methinks your plan is a wise one. We will indeed bide our time and strike like a lightning bolt out of the blue yonder when all is in readiness!(Laughs a sinister laugh. OOOOH-WAAAAA-HAAAA-HAAAA!!!! Curles the ends of black mustache and smiles.)

I should save some of this stuff for RP play. Some of it is pretty good! Yes?

You should save some. But the mustache is a suprise...and the lightning will open forth great things...depending...*starts humming*

Yeah, I surprise myself sometimes. Ain't I somethin'? Now, you were saying, "depending"? (Hmmmmm. Anxiously awaiting next pronouncement of plan. Sure to be devilishly clever and intricate in design.)
