Just caught this article about the new Battlestar Galactica RPG using the same gaming system as the Serenity RPG...

Could make for some interesting gaming scenarios... what if Galactica, instead of finding Earth, found the Alliance worlds instead...? What would Adama think of Mal and the rest? Would the Browncoats make for natural allies of the BG crew? Would the Cylons team up with the Alliance?

It'd make for a great BG TV episode too...

BTW, has anyone played the Serenity RPG? How does the gaming system stack up to older systems like AD&D (2nd Edition) or something similar...? Are the game mechanics simple or horrendously complex?

I'm not sure, as I haven't seen it, but chances are that like most games these days, it's based around the D20 system. Given that my pen and paper rpg exepriences started with 3rd Ed DnD (which introducted the D20 system), I can't really compare it to 2nd Ed, but it does mean that any stats (weapon damge, chance to hit, life expectancy, skills, etc) can be transferred from one game to another (as long as it uses the D20 system) without needing to be converted.

IMHO, the D20 system is simple enough that it can be picked up fairly quickly, without needing to teach people about THAC0's and the like.

Information on the Serenity RPG can be found at:
http://www.serenityrpg.com/

While I haven't played AD&D, or any D20 games, I have found that overall the system is faily easy to grasp, even if it is a bit different.
