Ok, most who know me also know I have been working on dozens of study models for the past 3 or so years. The following is one that has gotten some good reviews as it looks now {UN-Finished} - so I decided I wanted some FFN Input!

So here are a few pics of the ICV* Agro*;CCN* 1313-H* DragonFly Class

Yes, it is neon orange - for now ... and yes there IS a reason ... bwhahaha ... think 'submarine' and Cary Grant...

AND it lacks the engines and wings - 4 of 'em.

ALSO: It should evoke a memory of another ship ...

ANYHOO PICS!!!

Look deep into my eyes...

Aft View ... of course.

Detail of the 'Rail Engine'

Underside of the 'neck'

Port Side

Aft and Slightly Dorsal

Bottom!

Engine/Wing Detail One

Engine/Wing Detail 2

OK, there iz something to yap about - 'member : T'aint finished ... but poke away and ask any questions...

Agro=Australian slang for aggressively angry

H=Heavy

Thanks!

I know I have heard of several 'Dragonfly' ship class names.

Walrus
Yep - an undercoat for now. The movie I was referring the paint-job to is "Operation Petticoat" - where a WW 2 sub gets un-intentally painted PINK after it gets a lost group of WACs to their all male crew.

Anyhoo, new PICS after some more tinkering!

Looks good.

Though it seems DragonFly is a popular class name:

Mate, I think we need to talk - gimme an email if you are interested! CapnRahn@aol.com

BTW - Your CG Dragonfly is Excellent! Got any more pics?

I need to find some of my prelim drawings {I don't got the hang of doing CG, even tho I wish I did!} to show you the similarities in original 'buggy' dragonfly. This one {above and below} goes more with my Wood Dragon Chinese astrology bit. So thus a 'different' Dragon-Fly - more in the Vermithrax mode... {OK, do YOU know who Vermithrax is? Anybody?}

NOW- PICS...

New bridge - sharpies are nice for quick changing the paint job... riiiiight.

Those are not cannons - thrusters!

Engines and wings - yep 4 of 'em!

More 'booster' thruster detail

Thanks, I'm working on some modeling embellishments (airlocks, RCS thrusters, radiators, solar panels that sort of thing) and some texturing, hoping to get a lot done this weekend. I'll try and upload some more pics after that.

It's looking really good, and I think both can coexist. Mine was originally a millitary craft designed for duties similar to the Chinook (transport/logistics) but with a touch of the Huey's uses in Vietnam (same but with some gunship thrown in too), your's seems more of a civilian craft, so I think they can coexist quite happilly

Yep ... true and yet not. True: No doubt thay can sit on dock pads right next to each other, the sleek newer and smaller Dragonfly next to a huge acient decrepit looking Military surplus sold 'lifter'. Now add in the Firefly class: We have the Huey/Chinook vibe with yours; a C-130/C-141 with Serenity and the C-5 with the Agro. Humm ... DragonFire class...

See, I am an ex-AF avionics tech and was looking to the Agro as being closer to a C-5 Galaxy - A heavy transport. Not so much civilan in concept - but old military surplus IS sold ... gray market p'haps ...

However, my ship is a homage to Serenity and not 'really' for that 'Verse. Started there but went another direction. The Agro is not my main ship - just a stepping stone on the run from the Authorities by ex-Military personell. NOT the "A-Team", I promise you!

Cool. From the shape of it I had assumed it was smaller than Serenity, I'm guessing it's actually a lot bigger.

Quick question, how are you constructing this? Is it custom moulds, kit bash, little of both?

Yep, about a 1/3 larger in length {Just shy of 300'}and as to volume - I NEED to do the rough deck plan Soon. The windows: I need to rethink them to show the scale better. Not to mention going thru the gazillion parts I've got to see what would 'work'. Got soe Ideas ... more on the cockpit windows...

Totally kitbash with my new 'Ships Tar' putty {the purple stuff}

Let us see ... the basic model 'bits'
HeadF-117, Sulaco, CutAway Enterprise
BodyKenworth Cab and cut down trailer, "Lost in Space the Movie" Jupiter 2 top half, Trek Maquis Raider wing joints,
Particle Acceleator Ring and Rear2 DS9 inner rings, Star Wars Droid Fighter base, 3 DS9 large Docking pylons, 3" half sphere, DS9 cnetral decks, DS9 reactor core, Trek NX-01 internal engine bits {on the outer biits of the DS9 pylons/arms.

And MUCH MUCH MUCH more...

More pics - Now With Hot Wings

Humm ... Close Up makes the head look HUGE!

Wings are variable on the Z-axis and the engines themselves spin in the X-axis relitive to the wing. That is if I got my axis' labels right!

No, the engines don't collide when transiting postions ... trust me!

Hey folks ... new pics. Paint tests and new engine stuff. The "Battpacators" {Battery-Capacitors} are re-painted in international orange over the neon-o. Main body is in Testors Titanium Metal-izer {non--buffed at the moment}.

Other changes - can you tell? Let me know!

I think I got the bridge 'canopy' sussed. It is the blue "V" ... clear blue over chrome - just a test. Oh, see the little guy sunning himself above the orangy canopy? That is a N-Scale train figure - the reason I choose to use train scales in my test-ship-building {IE: nice ways to show scale!}

Thanks for lookin' and even more if you give a detailed opinion!

Wow, you have got some amazing skill there. Makes me wonder how you got into custom modeling and how someone else would do so. That is just fanfriggin tastic.

Any tips for someone who would like to get into custom modeling? (I have no interest in making "kit" models so much as doing what you do.)

Again, one more time, WOW!

LOL, Thanks! I started a looooooooong time ago {late 60s and early 70s) when I realized I really liked {even loved} the ships. My first 'love':Classic Enterprise and the CV-57{I think that is what it was called} from "Forbidden Planet" was waaay too cool back then.

But... {there is always a 'but' }
New shapes and ideas bloomed from that stimulation and I wanted to make ships that fit into that universe {Trek, keeping the example} but was uniquely my own. So I found some old models my brother and I had and started playing around.

30 some odd years later my tools and techniques evolved - BUT { again the 'buts'} I have never finished anything to my satisfaction.

Tips-
1) Save any {and I DO mean any*} models or bits and bobs {tiny parts}, ask the local stores if they sell broken,opened/returned models for a cheaper price, even close outs at Big Lots or dollar stores can garner model gold.
2) Ask friends for whatever kits they may want to get rid of.
3) Use a plastic welder - My favorite is Tenax-7R
4) Styrene sheet and rod stock is a godsend to help finish out details or provide structural support.

Shoot me an email if you want: CapnRahn@aol.com, I'll be glad to help!

Again - Thanks for the compliments!

*Example: Bandi marketed some of the Robotech-Invid Invasion models they made for the Japan market as Go-Bots here in the ol USofA. Very complex models used to promote a vastly lesser cousin of a rather good 70s Japanese animation.

KAYNA

I love my captain

Those pics with the black look pretty good. Quitte the aggresive looking boat. Puts me more in mind of a raven or a crow than a dragonfly. Definatly a raptor of some kind.

Over all, I'm very impressed with this whole thing. And I love Operation Petticoat.

Thanks! I really like the titanium metal-buff paint - it photographs really nice.

Ah, it did start off as a dragonfly - but mutated into a DRAGON-fly ... I'll see if I can pull up a pic of Vermithrax Pejorative from the film "DragonSlayer" to illustrate the evolution of my idea.

The Agro is supposed to represent the opposite of Serenity. The Agro's Captain's character is MUCH darker than Mal - closer {or even darker} to the proto-Mal in Whedon's "Alien Resurrection" Captain Elgyn.

I point that out in referance to the ships name - do ya know what 'agro' means?

Actually Very much correct - I made my own "Millenium Falcon" out of legos to use with my Star Wars figures (the Original set} waaaaay back in history.

Thanks! I am glad that that aspect is really coming through!

Any other observations?
