I don't mean to be contradicting or argumentative, but I have some concerns about doing a tight TV episode.
TV episodes work great if you have one or two authors who know exactly what's going to happen in their set amount of time and they have the ability to go back and edit out whatever doesn't fit within that limit.
Ideally, I think its a great idea for our RP, but realistically it might cause problems. What if our plot ends up taking longer than we expected? We can't go back and edit and I'd hate to have to rush the ending.

Just my thoughts.

MSWord always corrects me to "New Hokkaido". I figured it was named after the Japanese island. Who knows?

Others correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we have these things to do before we land, more or less in this order:

- Some more Simon/Inara/Rowan exposition, including contact lens removal & comment
- Rowan's dream sequence
- Zoe and Slight's arrival at the infirmary
- Simon/Slight II: The Melee in the Vallee (or maybe this could go down after landing.)

If the involved could chime in, maybe we can decide a good point at which to land.

Works for me. The dream will take one more post, lasting through the nine-ball game, down to the final shot which will represent a choice she needs to make.

Gotta remember, our loose definitions of Episodes include no less than 590 posts.

If we have players do "blended" posts, that custs the current post number down.

For example: Simon, Inara, and Rowan are all in the infirmary - that gives an oppertunity to do a 3 person "blended" post/move(s).

All the players have to do is get together via IMs oe even email and decide who is going to post. Then each player submits to the 'poster' their fiilized verson to be "blended".

Channain sorta did that for the Rowan/Niska fight. I only suggested and she wrote/posted. I think it worked out REALLY well.

It sounds a bit cluncky, but in reality it works! Not to mention it cuts down on the 'continunity errors'.

Pro: Cuts down on the number of posts too.
Con: Will increase the amount of down time between posts while folks are working out "blended" posts.

I don't think we should have to worry about cutting down the number of posts. I think we should just play it out as it comes and let it go where it goes (within the given story line of coarse)
But maybe that's just me.
I like the blending posts idea, but if we over-do it, then we'll lose the unique styles of the different players.
And like Astri said, it would take more time.
Not everyone has IM and e-mails can take just as long as posts, especially because of time differences and busy scheduals.

Please understand that I really like everyones' ideas and I'm not trying to shoot them down. I am a big fan of organization, but in this case, too much of it could take more time than its worth.

I'm shutting up now. These are just my opinions and if I'm out voted then I'm perfectly happy to go with whatever the majority wants.

REVISED POST ...

Astriana
Heh, jus' doin' me job as troubleshooter ... although smegaol will be taking it back over soon!

Channain
Has anybody said how long it will take to get to New Hokkaido?

And yes, it is a large Japanese Island just north of Japan.
I wonder if Humble just misspelled it? It is mentioned in the FF series?

BTW: interesting side note - In Trek the planet Andor was accidentally renamed to Andorra because of spell-check! Because there is an Andorra just below the Midi-Pyrenees in Spain.

Squee
No worries, your not argumentative, just got good questions!

Now, ya gotta remember, our loose definitions of an Episode includes no less than 590 posts.

If we have players do "blended" posts, that cuts the current post number down.

For example: Simon, Inara, and Rowan are all in the infirmary - that gives an opportunity to do a 3 person "blended" post/move(s).

All the players have to do is get together via IMs or even email and decide who is going to post. Then each player submits to the 'poster' their finalized version to be "blended".

Channain sorta did that for the Rowan/Niska fight. I only suggested and she wrote/posted. I think it worked out REALLY well.

It sounds a bit clunky, but in reality it works! Not to mention it cuts down on the 'continuity errors'.

Geezer
Ciara, Channain and I can wrap the - Simon/Inara/Rowan exposition, including contact lens removal & comment and Rowan's dream sequence - up in 3 posts, I would suppose.

As to the Simon/Slight II: The Melee in the Vallee, I had already an idea in that direction. No fight, there has been time for Simon to read the info on the memory stick. Not to mention that NCN is not in control now.

EDIT

Quote:

Con: Will increase the amount of down time between posts while folks are working out "blended" posts.

I agree, sorta ... although - it may not take as much time as waiting for someone to post a move.

Again I cite my example of the Rowan/Niska fight.

I had no time to write 'my' section, so I emailed Channain, she asked questions, I answered and then she took it from there.

Now, I will admit, Channain, Ciara and I sorta are on the same frequency concernign characters and their intertwining arcs.

Feh, wipe that smirk offa yer faces ... That just SOUNDED dirty!

Yeah, I thought I'd give Frau a bit of a break... LOL

New Hikido/Hokkaido:
Nothing has been mentioned about how long the trip would take, although it could be a few days, 'cause it's supposed to be a rim world. (Where is Hera in relation to the rim?)

I don't know nuthin' 'bout no Japanese islands... This particular planet wasn't mentioned in the show - I just figured it was a name that Humble made up, but it could be referring to the island.

I would be in favor of cutting down the number of posts, doing blended posts, etc. for the specific reason of bandwidth. Goodness knows our RP takes up a lot of it. We've posted 1000+ in the RP alone, with probably another 750+ in the OOC threads. I'd prefer not to tax Haken's systems and the site any more than we have to. (Believe me, I am donating heavily to the "Haken needs a new system" fund...) Perhaps we can ask Haken if there's any way to archive the AiG RP and OOCs once it's finished. (Maybe I'll get back to work on consolidating it and we can post it as a fanfic or something...)

Squee, darlin', I gotta agree with Capn on this one... You're not being argumentative - the whole point of this is to exchange ideas/thoughts/feelings so we can roll into the next RP and just have fun... (Besides, Geezer's probably gonna read all this, then ignore it and do whatever he wants. Just Kidding! )

New Hikido - I think Humble made it up. He told me he wanted something that sounded Asian and exotic. I don't think he knew there was a place with a like-sounding name. Hence my spelling. I'll cheerfully switch over to the majority opinion. Makes no nevermind to me, really.

Therefore I'm with Astriana - I don't believe NH was ever mentioned in the series. I don't know where Hera is in the galactic scheme of things. I'd like to think of it as a planet somewhere between the core and the rim. Not rich and flush, but not destitute either.

I had a brainstorm on all this that I'm going to throw out there. Mal mentioned luxery liners in Out of Gas - them that come from the core worlds might pay for a stellar cruise (a la Floston Paradise in The Fifth Element). Something long and leisurely that would take them past a galactic anomoly of some such. In theory, that liner would have to refuel for the trip back, which would lead stopping at a space station or the like. That space station could be orbiting a mining planet...called New Hokkaido (see? ah'm practicin').

Great post, Teela, though I'm not sure if River said that or only thought it.

Damon is still sleeping. He needs the rest and I have a lot on my plate in the real world at the moment. So I figure letting him sleep is a great opportunity to catch up on some work. Mal told Wash to tell him when they are 10 minutes from landing, Damon will be awake by then at the very latest.

Anyway, with that said, I return to my homework. I'll still be on FFF.net checking for posts several times a day, so don't worry, I'm not TOO busy. There's always time for Firefly

My! We've been busy little beavers while Madame was hogging the computer.

First things first. I'll be offline tomorrow while driving to a family visit, and probably up an hour a day in the evening if I can get a terminal at the library until Wednesday. So take as much time as you'd like to get to the Valley. If anyone needs to talk with Mal or Thorne, please feel free to take both sides.

Like the idea of blended posts. I'll probably be wanting to do one of thise with Maniac in a bit.

You say Hakido and I say Hokkaido. It's a matter of total indifference to me. We could let everyone use what thay want as far as I'm concerned. Ever read 18th century letters or other writings in the original text? Spelling was sort of casual, but you could understand it. I've been told that spelling wasn't really standardized until Webster's Dictionary.

Oops. Angel time. See you Friday some time.

No, but really, I don't like being pressured and now I'm not allowed to get my feet wet on the steps, I'm being dragged over to the deep end. *sigh*
Then I find out that my birthday is not the week after next, but this coming Tuesday. That's not such a bad thing, but I have projects due soon and I've been telling myself: "Oh, I have plenty of time, my birthday is still two weeks away."

Here's my two cents.

Blended posts - fun, yes, but time-consuming and occasionally difficult to formulate when RL issues crop up and inhibit a player's availability to write (e.g. Rowan/Niska fight). I'm all in favor of them being utilized, but not exclusively. Also, I don't believe less is more in this case - longer posts can make a thread load just as slowly as a bunch of little ones. Plus, waiting for a blended post to appear often leaves the rest refining thumb-twidling techniques or playing Bejewled until there's something to do.

I'm not sure what the answer is. I do know that trying to create an absolute limit seems a bit unrealistic. We've already proven in the past that we're not a very short-winded group. Trying to limit the number of posts we have to do to do justice to the characters and the story is like trying to catch the wind without a sail. It could cheat our story tellers of enough time and space to formulate a good, long, CapnRahn-style arc.

From what I'm seeing here, I don't think there's a way to limit the length of an RP without the director going quiety mad ("No, Wait! Don't post that there! We're done with that thread! There's an arc - DIDN'T YOU SEE THE ARC? Smeagol! SMITE that huhn dahn!"). The best you can hope for is create a few helpful rules, try to keeping the players from going off into too many untimely tangents, do a location update every 15-20 posts or so and just keep switching to a new thread when the current one hits 100. Any more than that and our director may have to be taken away in a rubber truck.

Librarys come in handy. Here I am 600 miles from home catching up.

The blended RP stuff seems like it could be useful sometimes. I have a couple of points in Thorne's arc it could come in handy, one with Book and one with Inara. Other times the spontainaity (sp) of individual posts is more fun.

Capn, I didn't have a particular next story planned, so If you'd like to float your proposal, we could look at it. Just make sure there's a place for Thorne.

Capn, we were wondering if our story lines could work toegther too. Channain seems to know something about yours, but I know squat. and you don't know much about ours either. So here's what I suggest. we e-mail each other our ideas and decide if they can work together.

Next oreder of business: Teela, I will send you Damon's background info right now.

Lastly- I guess Damon is awake now. Not what I had in mind, but definately more fun. I was in a hurry to leave this morning so now that I have time, I'm going to touch up my post. Later all, keep the ideas coming!

EDIT: nevermind about my post... it's fine the way it is. Geezer, Damon has some questions for Mal. So don't go running off with him just yet.

Second EDIT: Oh, and Maniac, maybe Damon and Book can have a chat in the cargo bay while Damon starts setting up the laser cannon?

I'm not broken, in my dream I win...

MercedesTroy would like to join our gaming group as a guest star for an episode or two.

Is that OK?

She will join at Serenity Valley - there is a reason for that!

After Serenity lands to make the pick-up, Merz will suddenly appear at the cargo bay doors. She will ask about a ship that is similar to the Serenity, which goes by the name of Chimera.

All you'll really know about her is what you observe from her:
Her name is Mercedes Troy. She is 5'4", about 118lbs, wiry musculature, She is topped off by a blazing platinum colored braid that is twisted into a long thick tail that falls past her waist. She very quiet and to the point and rather robotic/cold. Merz will be wearing this: SWAT style hat, orange tinted goggles and in a ship suit with the arms ripped off. Across the back are several 1/2 meter long rods with 4 differing diameters. These rods are secured vertically in the harness rig she wears. A cross between a pistol and multibarrel shotgun sits in the holster at her hip. All she carries is a medium sized alicepak and a ... rather large bowling ball bag.

She needs a ride.

Oh BTW, the Dream cast actress is Linda Hamilton as seen in "Terminator 2".

Wow Capn, description is spot on!

Hello all. I have been chomping at the bit for a chance to try my hand out at this, and having a chance to foreshadow the spin-off for the upcoming Dragonfly campaign is just too cool.

Thanks!!! CapnRon for asking me.

I hope no one minds, and I don't plan any intrusion into your plot. I have been reading and keeping up and I think I can stay out of the way.

What's the point of joining if you're going to stay out of the way?

LOL, yes I do!

It is a great way to give a visual example to anybody who likes to have that type of reference.

It establishes the 'look' of a character. So much the better if you can find the actor int he right clothes/costume so you can make a nearly perfect Avatar!

Out of the way for your established plots currently running. I expect to develop my own interactions, but not change the direction you are going. That's all. Otherwise where's the game? Don't want to disrupt, just join in

CHANNAIN

i DO aim to misbehave

Can't wait to find out where she's going and why.

The Rowan/Damon arc is ready to pitch whenever y'all say. I'll need to check back later this afternoon, tho. I have to venture into the black abyss known to denizens of Minneapolis as ... (ominous music) St. Paul.

Also, as MarsCon 2004 is starting next week, I will be even more absentee than usual. I'm directing the art show, so I'll likely be away from a computer for four solid days starting this coming Thursday. How will I handle the withdrawal? With fandom antics and a couple mugs of green death Saturday night, that's how. Not to worry, I'll be fine but a little prayer in the general direction of the convention - to your deity of choice, of course - would be appreciated.

OK, I posted Simon's move.

Astri & Raven, in Simon's move I set up the idea of Zoe and Slight ending up at the Infirmary door watching until the procedure was over.

If this doesn't work for either of you, let me know and I'll remove it.

I also set up for a scene I would like to do before we hit Serenity Valley

The scene involves Simon apologizing to Slight and giving Slight a 'peace-offering'.

On the MiniSeries:
I'll be a bit paranoid and ask this -
Does anybody have any reservations with me GMing the next adventure?

EDIT
I think I'll make a new OOC thread ... this one is up to 99 posts!
