Howdy all! Until CapnRahn gets back online, I don't have much to do, so I've decided to make a little something for all of the GunRunners.

As some of you may or may not know, my husband and I run a small company called Legendary Leatherworks. We make custom pieces of armor for RenFaires and such. It is in this capacity that I've undertaken this smallish project. I'd like to surprise all of you with it (it is Firefly related), but it would entail sending me your addresses. If you're not comfortable with that, please don't concern yourselves! I know the internet can be an iffy kind of thing, and I'm not looking to make any waves.

If you'd like one though, let me know. I've just started working on them, so it should take me a couple of days to finish.

Hmmm...hope CapnRahn gets back soon. Goodness knows what I'll do next if he doesn't.

Squee, Damon really should stay away from the engine room for a time. There's an intensely private moment going on between Kaylee & Simon (well, soon I hope).

Maybe just leave the tools in the Galley? Or back down in the Cargo Bay. LOL...just one more thing for Kaylee to complain about regarding Damon. Unfortunately, you get the backlash of her confusion. Hope you don't mind.

Hmm... well its been almost an hour in game time since Simon entered the engine room, but you're right, it would probably be less confusing if we try to keep the inteactions as chronological as possible.

Would Kaylee and Simon still be talking? Maybe they kissed and made up and lost track of time
Realistically, Damon wouldn't know that they are having a private moment. So I'll have him leave the tools just inside the door without disturbing them. Hope that's ok. I can edit it later of it causes problems.

It's been a bad day for MAL. A smart-mouth old man (who's always right), gunfights right outside the ramp, strange and often tore up hitchers, hold full of tequila drippings, uppity crew, the Doc going nutsy, the engine going off and on, Kaylee getting the vapours, crash landings, Niska escaping, Inara flirting with that gorram old man, Serenity Valley, more strange hitchers, the Alliance closing in, and Jayne tanked. Gunrunning never used to be this hard...or complicated.

Mal is about ready to resign as Captain, steal Thorne's observation craft, fly back to the Hera Carey bar, and take up serious drinking as a vocation.

DIRECTORIAL ACTION TIME

Where we are now:

Alliance five minutes out (that's THREE ships, BTW). Conex loaded. Engines hot. Laser installed (but untested). Gyrfalcon warmed up in the warehouse.

MAL/ZOE/JAYNE - Cargo hold. Mal & Zoe not in the best of moods, Jayne on cloud nine.

WASH - Bridge, watching the blips get closer.

ROWAN/DAMON/MERZ - Either in the upper passage on the way to the bridge, or in the cargo hold, depending on who you ask. Or maybe they came downstairs from the galley to the catwalk, and are heading for the bridge that way? Anyhow, they'd all rather be somewheres else than the Valley.

SLIGHT - Somewhere on board. Getting ready to leave.

SIMON/KAYLEE - Engine room. (they sure been in there a long time)

THORNE/INARA - Probably back at the ramp by now. Thorne waiting for Inara to say something.

BOOK - His quarters, nursing a cut hand and the potential of seven years bad luck.

MOUSE - Happily shredding the page from Book's Bible into nest lining.

NISKA - Still out there somewhere.

EARLY/SAFFRON - King and Queen of the Reavers. (Hey, Saffron always comes out on top.)

What's next:

I think we might want to delay the liftoff and subsequent running fight to space until CapnRahn rejoins the on-line world and gets Simon moving. Weekend's coming up, and that's usually a slow time for play anyhow.

Until then we need to:
Get Thorne and Inara back on board
Relate Merz's important info about the laser (or not if it's more exciting down the road)
Test fire the laser (or not...)
Decide who's the designated laser shooter
Get Slight headed for the Gyrfalcon

Otherwise feel free to have flashbacks and deep thoughs at will.

If anyone has suggestions to make the escape more fun without getting too far off storyline now's the time.

Distinctly possible that this is my bad. I thought they were on their way to the cargo bay to help secure the conex. Perhaps I should re-read the last few posts (again ).

Suggestions:
Laser shooter: I'm thinking it's not likely that Mal, Zoe, or Jayne are likely to have some strange folk firing lasers, especially from the bridge (passengers are kinda not supposed to be up there) - and certainly not with the Alliance as the target. (Mal seems to tend to send the "civilians" off-ship - or try to - when the going gets rough.) I'd suggest that one of the fighters - but not Wash - be the shooter.

Reminiscing: Since Zoe and Mal have a bit of history here, perhaps some reminiscing between the two of them would be in order? Perhaps Zoe's last statement could be taken as an opening to do a little reminiscing before we lift off (or after, if it's more appropriate...).

I don't suppose there's any chance they could get a call of some kind and turn to go pester some other deserving citizens? Just curious.

I have no idea where Rowan is right now, except following Damon. She does know the rules, though. Shouldn't even have spent that time with Kaylee in the engine room, except she wanted to stay off Mal's radar for a bit.

My thoughts on this one is that if someone else is closer to the cannon and able and willing to fire it (Wash is a pilot, not a fighter, remember?) Mal really won't care one way or the other so long as they don't get pinched by the feds. He will have to set ground rules after, once he's fully aware of the capabilities of his passengers.

Case in point:

Kaylee - Mal saw what she could do with an engine and hired her on the spot.

Jayne - Even under gunpoint, Mal recognized Jayne's abilities as the tracker in the bunch and finagled him onto his side of the boarding ramp.

Mal recognizes initiative and skill and has never been known to let an opportunity pass him by.

Could make for an interesting scene for all of us newbies with the captain and Zoe later. Get us all in one place, talk things out over coffee.

Y'know, this is a very valid point. I hadn't really thought of it in that way - especially with the Kaylee/Bester/Out of Gas example. I was thinking more of the initial schpeel he gives the passengers at the beginning of Serenity (the "no one leave the dorm" bit). You're right, Chan, it could lead to some very interesting interactions between the crew and the newcomers - and a working out of where everyone fits, which we may need for the miniseries RP (depending on Capn's plans). I withdraw that particular suggestion about the shooter...

Oooh! Here's another thought - Didn't you offer to have Rowan be the shooter at one point, Chan? Might make for some cool interaction between Rowan and Zoe for Zoe to see that Rowan is another "warrior woman"... Hmmm....

Forgot the other case in point: Simon - when they needed him to work on Kaylee, Mal let him, then beat him up later.

I did offer Rowan as the shooter. There's two seats on the bridge, and I figured the only use for that second chair would be as an operations officer. That way the pilot could focus on his skills and have a second pair of eyes to watch everything else while minimizing the multi-tasking. She wouldn't be a co-pilot since she doesn't have a license, just a degree in engineering from the university on Osiris. Since the war she's been using it like every other college grad - or rather not using it while playing professional nine-ball as opposed to making specialty coffee.

Also, on our earth that was - back before the merchant marines when there were merchant sailors all over the place - men used to transfer ships all the time. Not everybody who gets hired on needs to be a permanent member of the crew and thus part of the family Mal's trying to build. Just because he insists on maintaining loyalty to the crew doesn't mean the crew will necessarily feel the same way.

Rowan is a warrior woman in that she's doesn't take any guff from anyone, and she's not afraid to get things done. She can also make boys cry if she's a mind to, but she'll probably wait to do that when she gets the use of both eyes back

Boomer:
Just an FYI, Rowan can only keep tabs on Serenity using electronic means. She doesn't have the same *talent* Kaylee has.

Interesting discussion on the laser wrangler selection process.

I was gonna say that Mal has no idea how the thing works, and is for sure not gonna let a sky-high Jayne get anywhere near it. Wash has to fly the ship so he's out of contention, even if he had learned how a laser works somewhere.

I have it on good authority (being the DIRECTOR after all) that Zoe hasn't a clue either. If you ask Thorne, he'll quote Vito Cornelius, "Theoretically, no". He might know the Alliance crafts vulnerabilities, though.

So we're left with the hitchers and Book. Book might know how to shoot it, but it's hard to kneecap with a laser cannon.

Looks like it's up to the newbies to save the day. Possibly one shooting and the other two doing quick repairs, calibration, etc.?

Sound OK to y'all?

BTW, can someone (Merz?) get a timeline on Capn's return?

Hey, Geezer...just a thought. It might be nice for Thorne to call Kaylee, "Kaylee-girl", just like her dad used to. Might be some interesting interaction between the two later on in the story. LOL...for that matter, he might be able to give her some valuable advice on dealing with her doctor.

And to the other Gunrunners...should have things done this weekend, and sent out next week sometime. Keep your fingers crossed!

Seriously though. Your mouse post was funny, but I think Slight has the Bible page. The whole Psalm 23 thing. I sort of intended to have Book find him with it later on. I wish there could have been more missing pages to accomodate your insanity though, alas...

MERCEDESTROY

Ok, now for my OOC 2 cents worth.

Among other things MERZ actually IS a trained gunner. But Damon has already made it clear he intends to fire the thing. At this point she will not make waves, is not interested in discussing her past and besides, someone has to hang around and make last minute repairs if the thing don't wanna work. She would rather do that. (But it requires her being on the bridge during the battle.)

No what she has to tell Damon is important but not dramatic, more in the nature of a courtesy.

And CaphRahn was hoping for Sunday or sooner, and that is the last I heard. I don't know any more than that, but will let you know if/when I do.

My this IS getting exciting!

i DO aim to misbehave

Damon has the know how for the installation, and Rowan has the know how and electronic back up to make the installation go quick and smooth and Merz is a trained gunner who will make the best use of it when it's done - sounds like team work to me.

I've said it before - Rowan was behind the scenes of the war, not on the front lines. She is a fighter, but not a killer. Does that make sense?

TEELABROWN

*Teela grandly enters, however late*

Quick question for anyone who knows (a question I should know the answer to )- where is River? Geezer didn't list where she was.

*Teela needs to review the posts, and formulte her ideas*

I believe I left her in the infirmary, and no one else has brought her into any moves so I think she's still there.

I'm off until tomorrow - must dust!

Hmmm...everything is happening so freakin' fast, I wonder if CapnRahn & I should just keep whatever happened private? Might be easier than folks trying to work around it.

I'd also love it if Kaylee made her way to the bridge, looked at the new hardware, moved "just this one thing over here", and gave it a god-almighty power boost. LOL...show those damn passengers who's who on this boat.

Maybe that's just Boomer bleeding through, though.
