Damon's turn:
LOCATION - BRIDGE

Damon listens to all the talk about when they'll be arriving at NH, getting more and more confused. He eventually gives up and leaves the debating to everyone else. They'll get there when they get there and he doesn't much care when.

"Hey, Wash, are we strapping your chair or not?"

I'm not broken, in my dream I win...

RAVENWHYTEWING

Wash clips off the com. "Yeah strap away." He gives a bit of a woozy grin. "Whatever can keep me better strapped to reality seems like a good idea right now."

You see I cannot be forsaken/Because I'm not the only one.

CHANNAIN

i DO aim to misbehave

Inara & Rowan Blended Post:
LOCATION - INARA'S SHUTTLE
Quote:

Flashback

It was going to be their first party. Rowan was a very tom-boyish eight and so normally didn't indulge in girlish endeavors such as dressing up or doing her hair or wearing sweet perfumes. When she took such joy in it and delighted their mother so easily, Aislin had found herself unreasonably jealous. In telling the story to Inara, she had gazed at Rowan's portrait wistfully.

"She was adorable," Aislin said. "Bouncing around like a cricket and nearly as noisy as one. It was all Mother could do to get her to calm down long enough to finish brushing her hair. Then as I realized my sister was every bit as pretty as I was – more, really – my reaction was less than charitable. I said something horrible to her – I called her an ugly green-eyed troll and made her cry. Our brother Ru did what he could to patch things up, but we were never able to grow closer after that."

She sighed and ran her finger down the paper where Rowan's cheek would be if it were real.

"I didn't know how lucky I was to have her until I realized nearly 20 years had gone by and I didn't know who my sister was. She's found her soul mate now. My mother tells me he's a man of stature and name who adores her. Again I find myself envying her, only now I wish I could tell her how her happiness also gives me joy."

Inara covered her tutor's hand with her own. Aislin turned her hand over so their palms met and fingers intertwined.

"You will get the chance," Inara said to her softly. "You'll be able to close the circle and find peace with your sister as well as yourself."

Aislin smiled ruefully. "If you knew Rowan, I doubt you would have such confidence."

"The universe always finds a way," Inara reminded her. "Always."

Looking into the green eyes that Aislin had admired so fondly, Inara can see the little girl who ran away in tears that day, hidden inside the formidable woman she had become.

INARA: "I think she told me about you and that day because the memory of the pain she caused you was more than she could bear. She needed to tell someone so she could release some of her self-anguish and move past it. She'll never heal completely, though, until you help her to."

All at once, those green eyes flash with a sudden burst of temper.

ROWAN (indignantly): "She'll never heal? Give me a gorram break. She's a companion, probably second only to the house priestess by now, if not standing on the top of that ladder looking down on all she surveys and pretty gorram happy that I'm not around currying favor away from her."

Inara decides to fight fire with fire.

INARA: "Obviously you don't know the woman your sister has become or you wouldn't conceive of such an idea. Aislin was genuinely penitent over her behavior toward you. She has a strong desire to make amends - truly wants to establish a new connection with you, and if you'll forgive me for saying this, I believe you need to more than she does."

Recalling her sister's face the night she warned them against the Alliance invasion, the warmth of her words, Rowan finds she can't bring herself to deny it. Expelling her short bout of temper with a sigh, she shakes her head, amazed at the twists in the road that brought her to this.

ROWAN: "Old habits die hard, you know." (she shrugs one slim shoulder) "Like I said, though, I have no idea where she is. I don't see how we can patch things up if I'm on one side of the 'verse and she's on the other."

INARA (beaming): "Well, it just so happens I may be able to be of some assistance in that area. With your permission?"

ROWAN (mystified): "Shénme – you mean you know where she is?"

Inara gets to her feet and all but dashes over to take down the curtain consealing the shuttle's cortex console. In a single motion, she takes a seat in front of it and activates the interface. Moving to stand behind her, Rowan watches as Inara touches the screen delicately, and eventually brings up the access port for the Artemis, a luxury liner with the Blue Sun Line out of Persephone. In no time, the communications officer is on screen.

COMM OFFICER (monotone): "You've reached The Selene, stunning jewel of the Blue Sun Line. How may I direct your wave?"

ROWAN (jaw dropping): "Wode tìan."

Her hand comes swiftly to Inara's shoulder, as if holding on to some manner of reality. Inara covers it with her own as she smiles warmly at the officer.

INARA: "I wish to be connected to Fa-Zhou Aislin, Please."

CAPNRAHN

Mal's Move
LOCATION - MALs DORM
12:19 PM AMT
As ...

BOOK
with a sharp sigh
"I would like nothing better than to be able to give you the answer you're looking for captain, but there are... choices I made that prevent me."

Choices - we seem to be always tangled up in choices. I really need a gorram vacation. Mal actually relaxes at this thought. Might be time to schedule one, He turns his attention back to Book.

BOOK
"But I can tell you that the card was used for illegal communication purposes, and it was used to access a place that Niska is known to want control over."

At Book's pause, Mal motions Book to continue. His anger ebbing further into an understanding that Simon has made his own decisions. He thinks 'Not to mention, if the boy need them, he would find a way to contact Serenity. River was TOO important to Simon ... Mal's errant thoughts shift to Inara, which he quickly squelches. No, won't work ... everything ends, it just don't matter nomore.' He nods at Book when he realizes he was woolgathering.

Book has just finished walking over to a stack of coiled rope and dropped the one in his hand onto the top of the pile.

BOOK
"I know this may not mean much or make much sense, but you remember how Simon was acting before he left ... he was behaving differently. I know for a fact that he initiated a very dangerous and experimental procedure involving his own mind and Niska's. I wasn't aware of what he tried to do until it was too late ... but you saw the effects. Simon was like Niska for a time, he had his anger, he spoke with his accent and used his mannerisms. I can see you know where I'm going with this line of thought."

Mal ponders a moment on Books words - more importantly the way Book has said them. He chews the inside of his lower lip as he works it out.

MAL
with a combination of calm, concern and incredulous expressions
"Maybe - Doc does know his trade and he seemed to be hisself 'fore he left. I didn't see any mannerisms of that Ching-wah tsao de liou mahng* in the Doc. Bout the card - Could it be that our only-just-a-genius Doc is tryin' to use Niska's resources to facilitate his 'simple plan'? After all, that boy has had some purty strange ideas a simmerin' in his brainpan. We can't do much anyhow - least till we drop this shipment and hear somethin' from Simon or someone else.

Mal looks expectantly at Book. All the while trying to keep his face neutral. But thoughts whirl around his mind 'I can see that Bad Things are a comin'. Best to see what Book has come up with and hope he is wrong. We got good luck lately, leastways compared to when I took on these strays. I hope we ain't in for a bad patch.' But the feeling in Mal's gut just confirms the dark path ahead.

MERCEDESTROY

MERZ move

LOCATION - BRIDGE As...

MERZ kneels behind WASH’s chair with the best of the remaining straps, just doing her work and letting the assorted conversation wash over her. Who cares when they get where – as long as she has no defined destination, time can take its time. She has not waited for an answer to DAMON’s question; WASH said enough to let her know it was acceptable to him before DAMON even came in the room. All she does is make sure she is not under THORNE’s feet while he listens to his wave, and records a response.

But something he says goes straight to her subconscious and shoots an electric shock through her entire system.

Quote:

Dry and empty as HLASTONI's heart.

i am hearing things. i must be hearing things. is too perfect, too much coincidence to be true. but it does not make sense. why would he say that about Hlas? i never knew anyone so . . . affectionate . . . i have watched him enter a nightspot alone and come out like a chorus line. . .

MERZ is on her feet like a shot – staring wordlessly at THORNE. She needs to ask him who he is talking about. She is afraid to hear the answer. The dichotomy has her on her feet and shaking like a leaf, with her mouth open and nothing emerging. ‘ropa would laugh – for me to board a ship like serenity and end up with a cargo for hlastoni is the ultimate in fortuitous karmic happenstance

Finally she manages to get language out around the lump in her throat and the tightness in her chest. “Pardon me, is that Dysseus Hlastoni, the pilot?”

THORNE is looking at MERZ as if she has just sprouted an extra head. “Yes.”

Suddenly the bridge tilts. Strangely unable to compensate for what should be a normal maneuver, and having unaccountable breathing problems, MERZ drops to one knee and stays there, panting. well, this has never happened before, how strange.

RIVER: "Wow, Blue Sun ribs! MMmmm!"

Everyone dishes up and Mal takes a bite and makes a face.

MAL: "UGH! Jayne! What'd you gorram do to it??"

Zoe stands up and grins into the camera.

ZOE: "Do your crew-mates turn fresh meat into packaged protein? You need Blue Sun Season ALL!"

Zoe holds up a package. Book stands up next to her, also smiling.

ZOE: "Just add one package per serving and you will have an instant tasty meal!"

BOOK: "I don't need to spend my money on those expensive herbs! I use Blue Sun Season ALL!"

ZOE: "But wait! There's more! If you wave now, you can get a 10% discount AND a free Blue Sun T-Shirt! Wave now!"
