The Independence

Though she is technologically superior, the “Independence” or “Indy” is forced to run cold due to power strain by signature nullifies and its more powerful Aught Four engines. While this means that she is nigh un-catchable and un-detectable, she cannot power all heaters around the ship forcing the temperature near freezing level.

Originally the “Night Hawk”, an operative ship for slipping in and out undetected, was to be decommissioned just before the start of the Unification War due to being an out dated Aught One, albeit, with superior technology. With start of the war, came the need of ships, so it was decided that the “Night Hawk” was to be put on hold for decommissioning.

On the 17th of February 2511, the Steel Cats Rapid Reconnaissance team was to be executed after being captured on a sabotage operation on Osiris after rumors of an Alliance Super Soldier Project in 2510 where they were used as Alpha tests of new technology. They escape after being briefly unchained to allow movement where Independent Lieutenant Jack Shepard “re-aligned” Alliance Officer Nathan Cain’s nose.

The Steel Cats escaped through the “Night Hawk”, by this stage it belonged to the Project, under the name, “Black Diamond”.

The Steel Cats, now no longer an official unit, took odd jobs mainly coming from the die hard resistant movement, The Independent Remnants Resistance Forces, or IRRF, were it is finally christened “The Steel Cat”. Almost un-hindered for just around a decade, Reavers hit the “Steel Cat”, all hands were lost except its Captain, Jack Shepard. The Steel Cat is abandoned, left in the Lilac desert.

Picked up by the “Book”, Shepard continues to sail under Captain Colt, who points out to fellow captain, Shadow, who re-builds and repairs Fireflies and re-commissions them as “Virtual Fireflies”, that there is the wreckage of a Firefly on Lilac.

Captain Shadow rebuilds the “Steel Cat” on Aquila and Colt drops off Shepard on Aquila, where he becomes Captain once more of the “Steel Cat”, now christened “The Independence”.
