SEDITIOUSBROOM

This is my first post, though I browse here occasionally. So, um, hi.

I am developing a small resource and am not sure where to post or really even where to host it. I feel selfish keeping it on my own web space. At the very least, I worry about having a back-up on the web somewhere other than my own web space. I would love some ideas.

The details (please forgive the copy+paste from my blog):

I am writing an adventure for the Serenity role-playing game and, as usual when I GM, started geeking out over maps. Much to my chagrin, the official Serenity RPG did not include a map of The Verse. So I started searching for maps online. Several fantastic ones exist. I especially like the maps at FireflyRPG.com. Print them to scale, roll dice for planet/ moon position, and you have travel time. It's brilliant and the art work is fantastic.

Then I stumbled across The Complete and Official Map of The Verse.

Wow x5.

Really. The map is a stunning piece of artwork.

A white paper was promised soon after the map's release but, insofar as I can tell, has yet to see the light of day.

So why not flex my technical writing skills? The map itself contains tons of information. I can put that in tables and charts without devaluing the map itself, right? The map is gorgeous. Nothing can replace its aesthetic beauty or fabulous format. I firmly believe that. However, I also feel that posting information gathered from the map so it may be used by Browncoats between paychecks or down-on-their-luck who are running games or merely curious could be useful.

As such, I began developing Planets of The Verse, an unofficial supplement to the official map.

Right now the supplement is a little sparse. It contains a few low-res pictures from the map marketing material; a detailed table of suns, planets, and moons; and information pages on a few planets and moons.

I hope to expand this work by including more information pages, a travel time chart (likely one that relies on dice-roll, random placement of bodies in orbit to determine placement as with the lovely FireflyRPG map), and offering a download version (either compressed HTML or PDF). Those things are planned for the near future.

I will not provide additional pictures or scans of the map. I simply will not do that. This supplement is meant to support the map or provide information to those who do not have the map but wish to know official stats. This is not meant to, nor can it, replace the map itself.

Note: I am not going anywhere near the credibility of a five-star system that contains a central white sun with two yellow suns in orbit. I know it is improbable. I love The Verse and this map enough that I don't care. I will make it work in my heart and not my head.

The white paper just came out a couple of days ago. It's available for download on the QMx map page:

Still, yay! The white paper is out!

Thanks for the heads-up.

Might check the Map of the Verse discussion thread in the Episode Forum, in case that helps you - or if you want to add to it.
