Has anyone heard anything about a scale model of Serenity. That would be really fun to build

Actually I've been wondering the same thing. Actually I've been thinking about hiring one of these guys ( http://www.starshipmodeler.com/kit_build.cfm ) to build me one.

Yeah, but it'd have to be a resin build. The guy who tried to make a model from paper decided it was a bad idea after figgerin' out that it would take something like 10,000 folds to do.

Does Blue Sun sponser the Blue Man Group?

I've been a big fan of model-building for MANY a year (though the lack of a suitable space for same has ground my projects to a halt for the better part of a decade!!). A model of Serenity would be Multo Sweet.

Actually, it occurs to me that, given the existence of 3D computer models of the ship, it should be possible to "print" a model using stereolithography ( http://computer.howstuffworks.com/stereolith.htm). It would give a computer all the fun of building the thing, but then one could go to town with the painting, weathering, etc.

Anyone work for a design firm....?

Keep flyin'!

As of yet, there are no plans for a Serenity Model. Knowing Joss, he would be against the commercialization of his work. (I dunno, look at Buffy! On second thought...)
If one were made, it would probably be geared toward the young and the restless of age and be a bit of a disappointment to the rest of us.
Having said all that, it is not at all impossible to do a buildup of a Serenity model. Given the correct and complete information (i.e. photos), I think it would be fairly easy (but involved) to do a scratch build-up in pieces from both wood, foam, and clay. The purpose would be to vaccuform the finished blocks - make a skeletal structure to support the vaccuform and detail out the rest. I've seen this done time and time again to the most difficult architectural structures.
Just a thought…
Well, anyone got some really complete photos?

If you can upload/scan photos to your computer, you can host them on photobucket.com.

I'd like to see it!

this is the model, but it will take a lot of finishing to look good and it`s quite small, I think you would be better off designing `Big` from the cargobay upwards.

Well folks, let's just take a minute to think about what it would really take to get a Serenity model to market. The process is pretty straitforward. We need some good drawings of the ship (int/ext) and good photos would also work.

Then we need to determine scale and level of detail. Then comes the hard part. How to fit the parts together. This will require input from experienced model builders. Of course there will be a wish list. Retractable landing gear, lights, operating cargo doors, rotatable engines, etc. Depending on scale, these features can be found on aircraft models.

But first and foremost must be a business plan. What is the market? If you seriously want to see a mass-market Serenity model, think about how the investors will make money.

For the record, I like the show and the movie. But no one is going to it for free.
If you are interested; let's talk.

I have a free paper model without textures.

It is almost 3 feet long and scaled for use with 25 mm TTGs. Takes aprox 70 sheets of paper...

Well, Monsters in Motion ( www.monstersinmotion.com) has a six inch model coming out. They bill it as a decoration, (like maybe a Christmas tree decoration). You can pre-order it with a release date of April. Now, this is not what I had invisioned, but something is better than nothing. Also, I heard that they are waiting to see if this model sells to determine what the market is for a better/bigger one. So, everyone get that model!!!!.

"What you order a dead guy for???"

MEDDLESOME

Does anyone have access to a 3-D printing system and an AutoCad to run it? If so you could run the plans that someone has made then make a scale model of it on the 3-D printing system and then paint it over.

"People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome."

Ive actually had an odd idea to make it one of my goals in life to construct a working, fully identical vessel to Serenity, probably going overboard, but by the time I have enough cash flowing, thrust technology should be sufficient enough to lift a bird like Serenity off the ground. Although it will probably never happen, it would be awesome to see a 'Firefly' lift off :)

Never give up 'til your heart stops beating.

It would be cool to see in real life. But on the virtual front, you can fly her in a flight sim:
