I stumbled across Serenity after reading some reviews and going to the theatre to see it. I thought it was great and got it on DVD, then got the Firefly series. I gotta say, it leaves me wanting more and I feel very upset I didn't know about the show when it was on. I wish I would have known what a gem this show is so I could have helped try to save it!

That being said, it's sort of ironic that I use a brilliant and cancelled-before-its-time show as most of my inspiration for running a long out of print game that was also prematurely cancelled: Aeon Trinity.

For anyone not familiar with the game, it was released in the late 90s and has some striking similarities to Firefly in some regards. If you want more information than I'll provide here, check out: http://www.white-wolf.com/trinityfiles/trinity.html

The main idea of the story is that it's the 22nd century, and the mutated descendents of the Earth's superheroes who were expelled from Earth have returned to wreak havoc. The world superpowers are: China, Australia and Brazil - there are solar and extra-solar colonies. Mandarin is readily spoken everywhere, and a new force: human psions with powerful psychic abilities have revealed themselves and have vowed to defend humanity against the aberrants. So, you're thinking, what does this have to do with Firefly?

I find Firefly's feel and setting to be perfect with the Indo-Chinese culture that dominates Trinity. The reavers are a perfect example of the aberrants (except imagine if those reavers had crazy super powers and just floated out in space without ships!) And, last but not least, River makes a great example for a psion. (Psions are so sensative to psychic abilities, if the jump ships that emulate psionic teleportation launch closer than the orbit of Neptune then all of them would get headaches / comas - they also sense taint in aberrants / the deaths of others, etc.)

Either way, I've been running games for years, and even with all the resource material I picked up dirt cheap - left rotting and forgotten in some guy's basement - for Aeon Trinity, I find that Firefly gives the gritty rough edged feel that my players love. I've gotten one of them addicted to Serenity - now if only I could get everybody together to watch a few episodes of Firefly.

So far, people love the game more than any I've run in a long time. I haven't seen the Firefly RPG for sale, but if I do, I'll be sure to pick it up.

Ugh... why is it everything that is cool is overlooked and cancelled?

Firefly is a perfect performance in a very painful way: it will always leave me wanting more. I will do what I can to show it's beauty to others - so it doesn't wind up like Aeon Trinity gathering dust on a shelf.

I doubt any of the creators or workers would see this - but you've made one of only two shows in my life that I've actually cried / cared about... Thank you so much for what you've given :)
