Hey, you need any tools from the engine room 'fore I go down?

KAYLEE looks at him thoughtfully. Tell you what. If you aren’t doin’ anything pressing and are willing to help, I need to be in two places at once – and I never mastered that trick. Right now, I have somethin’ tore down that’s gotta be fixed right now, and this needs cleaned right now too. If you wanna follow me down and let me give you some cleanin’ stuff I would be mighty grateful if you would wipe WASH’s dinner off the inside of that piece o’ equipment so’s I can fix the damage when I get done downstairs. D’ya mind?

Thorne's Move

Location: Common room/corridor to passenger quarters

"Battle Stations! Battle Sta..." The warning abruptly stops and the lights go back to their normal hue as THORNE crosses the common room. He can feel a general easing of tension in the ship and suspects that the alarm was just a false one.

In the corridor he sees JAYNE peering curiously into the preacher's room. Nothing good can come of that.

THORNE: "JAYNE! If you're checkin' on the Shepherd, I saw him heading for the bridge. No need to look in his quarters. Glad to see you're thinkin' of others during the alert, though. Real comfortin'."

LOCATION - PASSENGER DORMS

Jayne backs off a little as he hears someone down here with him.

THORNE
"Jayne!" He turns with a start and sees Thorne standing by his room. "If you're checkin' on the Shepherd, I saw him heading for the bridge. No need to look in his quarters."

JAYNE
"Just makin' sure he's alright after that buck." He looks anything but apologetic and respectful.

THORNE
"Glad to see you're thinkin' of others during the alert, though. Real comfortin'."

JAYNE
Jayne slides down the corridor by Thorne. "An' how are you? No broken hips er nothin'?" Not waiting for an answer, Jayne keeps moving into the common room.

RAVENWHYTEWING

The chill spreads from his shoulder to his whole body. He feels like he's ice

Abruptly, his whole body seems to convulse. He drops to his knees, the cigarette falling from the gangway to the ground. Slight jerks, his hands clenching open and closed as he tries to calm the spasms richocheting through his body. He can feel the Firefly melt around him, fading into nothingness, as he finds himself in the plateau of the mind. He glances up, seeing his father, the ghost he cannot calm, the dragon he cannot slay.

"Tsk. Such an elaborate fantasy."
Slight stands, his body still aching a little. He narrows his eyes, but says nothing. His father is dressed all in white, but his skin seems green from the preservation treatments.
Slights tattoo melts into the raven again.
"Although it is interesting. Somehow, your eyes can still see some of the real world, even in your state."
"What are you talking about?" Slight can hardly even speak.
Helsing shrugs. "All this. Doesn't it seem convenient that you found a ship identical to your former fare, a crew that speaks not only English and Chinese, but Spanish as well? One of them is a victory of your fong luh crusade. All of it. . .a creation of your mind. But somehow, memories that aren't false leaked in. Interesting."
"So," snorts Slight sarcastically, "I'm, what. . .still in the Gyrafalcon, sleeping peacefully?"
Helsing smiles like a skull. "A little too peacefully. Soon, you'll be resting in peace. Your client is no longer himself-"
"That was obvious."
Helsing ignors the interruption. "He is Adelei Niska now. Or, at least a copy."
If Slight were capable, his skin would be going paler. "No. . .that hwoon dahn will. . ."
