Every time I've read an article about retirement, the numbers are so faked it would make me laugh if I didn't know it was total propagandist BULL.
It makes me sick that our idiot leaders still think they should do that.

This is the ONLY one that I've ever seen that is in line with what I see around me.

"Morrissey figures that about 43% of working-age families have no retirement savings at all. Among those who are five to 10 years away from retirement, 39% have no retirement savings of their own."

"The median working-age couple has saved only $5,000 for their retirement"

"Seventy percent of couples have less than $50,000 saved."

That's my experience, too. No one has any savings, because no one makes enough to save any of it.

Apparently, jujing by my history, my plan iz to spend evrything az fast az possibl and to die in deep det.

I didnt intend for it to be this way, but the plan haz sum merit.

Considering that time iz your most valuabl resours, and you never really no how much you hav, trading it all away for money iz foolish.

Money iz too eazy to steal and too hard to hold on to, so kwikly converting it to uzabl stuff and good timez iz smart.

ESP in my case.

I still can't believe I cheated death once. I get the feeling that won't happen a second time. And with hubbs being a 300 lb cigar smoking oreo cookie monster I have serious doubts about him being around much longer.
I hope I go first so he can properly souse hiself to death like he'd like to

I wish I could do what the idiots around me do and blow it like it's hot.
EVERY time I've ever remotely done that, he gets out of a job or we wreck a car or some other crap happens. When you got a kid that mortally depends on heat and a/c, you learn not to take chances anymore...

I could. The gist seems to be general agreement that we've all been slowly starved of meaningful retirement benefits with all the 401ks in place of more solid pensions, which more and more employers are no longer offering.

Lots of personal stories, too. People losing it all over illnesses, disability, job loss, etc.

Usually, with any retirement article there is a couple jerks on a pedestal bragging about their retirement accounts and how hard they worked and generally failing to mention inheritances or that their college or housing was paid for....

Yeah, we had a few talking like that. More talked about how their retirement got downsized or eliminated, or how their dad got cancer and lost all his money in 6 months, etc.

The destruction of pensions is a deliberate move. Wall Street wants everything.

Well, at leats all these people did the important thing instead of the prudent thing. They were able to vote for Obama, and Clinton, and Carter, and LBJ. Reaping what they've sown.

An alternate point of view:
A wise old man once said "Of all the money I have made in my life, about half was spent on Wine, Women, and Song."

"The rest I just wasted."

Very biblical of you, but the US economy does better under Democratic than Republican Presidents.

But when the economy does better, the extra money does not go mainly to those with the least money in their retirement accounts. The one thing that is common under both D and R presidents is that the wealthy will vacuum up the money from people not paying enough attention to either their money or their lives. This should be old news to you if you ever googled the words: net worth distribution

I probably need to define by example the "wealthy vacuum up money": Ever been in the hospital? Ever hired a lawyer? Ever paid rent? Paid interest on a credit card? A payday loan? Worked at, or near, minimum wage? Ever subscribed to cable or satellite TV? If so, you have had your money vacuumed up by the wealthy.

The Wealth Vacuum has become more efficient with each new expansion of the US economy

Have you ever had a mortgage foreclosed? If the answer is yes, there is an article about how the rich continue their legal maneuvers to transfer your money to themselves. That would ruin your retirement savings, assuming your home equity figures into your retirement planning.

Since you will not read the article, I will summarize: the rich are forging documents so that they can steal your house. Since this is completely illegal, it is not the government's fault. Blame it all on the scheming rich and what they can get away with by hiring companies that hire supervisors that hire employees that will do the actual forging of mortgage documents. The rich never forge a signature on a document, so the law will never jail them, only some lowly flunky, if she gets caught, on video, faking a signature.
