Well Gore did have a right to complain and drag it out to try to make the whole election make sense. Al Gore had the most popular votes. He had popular support, but because of the electoral college, and the fact that the country had not been redistricted before the election, to provide a clearer picture of populations throughout the country, he lost. Because of problems with vote tabulation in Florida, there was debate about who the winner of that state was. I know that if I had the most votes, but it came down to counting up how many votes were placed in a crap hill state like Florida, where my opponent's brother is in charge of that state, I would fight like hell to keep my name out there and to prove to people that you can't just give up because a set of fictitious numbers is against you.

If the situation was reversed, where Bush got the popular vote and Gore won the electoral because of
Florida States 600 votes (and God Damn hanging and dimpled chads), Gore and all democrats would be saying the same thing that the republicans say now. The election system of the United States chose the correct president. My only hope if that were the case would be that Bush would have conceded in a more proper manner.

Gore just had a bag of sour grapes. He was very undignified IMHO.

let me say, first off, that i am not a political person. i do not pay a whole lot of attention to political issues, nor do i usually debate these things on a regular basis. with that caveat, let me also say that i agree, if the positions were reversed in 2000, then of course the bush camp would complain and the gore camp would stick up for the initial vote. that is the way people some people get when something as big as the presidency is at stake. gore and bush were fighting to become the most powerful man in the country and if you do not pull out all the stops for that, then when DO you go all the way? i just feel that gore had a legitimate reason to challenge the initial ruling in florida. the vote was SO close (no tthe 100,000+ that kerry lost by in ohio) and that merits a second look. in the end, by the rules of the election process in the US, gore DID lose. the process elects the candidate with the most ELECTORAL college votes, not individual votes. i think the situation was so surprising that people all over maybe needed a little more clarification as to WHY gore could have the most popular votes but not win.

anyway, my humble opinion.
