The REAL one... Not the boring one from the 50's or the bullshit CGI crap in 2010 or whatever.

I was like 4 years old when my old man watched the original one and I was fucking terrified at what I saw. Instead of CENSORING me, he let me watch it with him. Maybe it was a good move, maybe not. I grew up with things like Poltergeist and The Thing and all of that. My parents were some of the first to have HBO on TV. (White Privilege, YAY!)

Seriously though.... I was 4 years old and remembered a dog splitting in half and spawning tenticles and eating people.

I was fucking amazed when I saw that movie again when I was like 22 and it held up. Sure, some scenes were bogus, but overall it was still realistic and creepy as fuck. That's because it was made before CGI was even a thing.

Almost every 90's movie that used CGI, including the AMAZING AT THE TIME INDEPENDENCE DAY looks like shit today mostly because of the failing CGI

Seriously, watch The Thing, featuring Snake Pliskin. You won't be dissapointed.

And I don't mean to harp on the "Black Guy" thing, but as far as I remember, that's the only movie I grew up with that the Black Guy made it to the end.

But as anyone who knows and loves the movie, that might be totally false.

Two Alpha Males.
One White, One Black.
Living together for over 6 months prior with only 6 other guys on Antartica.
Very Good Friends, or at least they were.
They know so much more now.
They are the only survivors that (as far as they know) destroyed a possible alien invasion on the Human Race.
But they destroyed the radio.
They destroyed the base.
They destroyed the UFO.
They destroyed everything except for each other and the dwindling fire between them. The only thing keeping them alive.

There is ZERO way they could even proove to themselves that the other one wasn't an alien.

But It didn't Matter.

When that Fire went out, no matter their genes, they were dead.

THAT is why nobody can make a good movie that really means anything anymore.

Even though the 1980's The Thing never won any awards, that last 2-3 minutes were the most important words of a century, let alone a generation....

Really think about it

No matter if both of them or none of them were taken over and were aliens.

At the end of the movie, it was just two Alpha Males. One White and One Black. One "Snake Pliskin" and One "The voice of the Navy Commercials".

At that point it didn't even matter if either of them were actually human or not.

They both knew they were about to die and just shared a bottle of liquor together with TRUE Respect.

SPOILER ALERT!

Seriously, you should watch and enjoy this movie, especially if you loved 1984 or A Brave New World...

Or mabye especially if you never even heard of either of those Amazing Stories....

Keith David: If you're worried about me....
Snake Plisken: if we have any surprises for each other, I don't think we're in any shape to do anything about it.
Keith David: Well... what do we do?
Snake Plisken: Why don't we just... wait here for a little while.... see what happens?

Agreed! John Carpenter's The Thing really is the best horror/monster movie ever made. The pulsing soundtrack, minimal use of CGI, and intelligent script makes this a true classic. It also has a sublime sense of humor mixed in. Easily Kurt Russell's best role. Even better than Snake.

Impossible to disagree with Mutt...

As much as I love Snake, Carpenter's "The Thing" was the perfect horror movie. Nothing made since then has even come close.

Even "The Matrix" couldn't touch it, though they tried to with the whole "anyone can be an agent".

The Thing was the scariest when there were no monsters on the screen. That scene when they were all together and testing each other's blood....

It's been re-used so many times since then. My favorite re-make of The Thing, really the only one that deserves to be mentioned is "The Facuilty"

The Only somewhat Modern Movie that deserves any praise. No real deversity in that one, but it was the movie that launched a Hobbit's career, and I was always aroused by Vin Desels little sister in Fast and the Furious.

Although, her role in Chuck was far sexier to me. ;)

John Stewart was also the "Good Guy" teacher, the T-1000 was the asshole coach, and the "Bad Girl" teacher was played by the original Marvel Girl from the original Xmen movies.

But still nothing could ever compare to Carpenter's movie. Maybe only because it had a happy ending?

Not one single kid in The Faculity deserved a Happy Ending....

If John Carpenter made that movie, the ending would have been sick.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

BTW, nobody believed after the movie was over that Elija Wood was making out with a 20 year old Jordana Brewster. I don't care if he "saved the world". Never would happen 3 days later.

The Facuilty could have been so awesome as a 20 year old follow up, but they fucking hollywooded it up and ruined it.

I'd love to watch a "Dark" version that wasn't released to the public on a Director's Cut DVD.

I bet there were multiple endings filmed for that movie. They just went for the feel-good happy bullshit one that they figured would net the most money.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

The "Drug" test...

My favorite part of the movie.

Never even sure what sort of BS scat drugs they were paying for here...

But this was the scene that most channeled The Thing.
