He might fuck up. I've been thinking that. In which case they'll vote for someone else as president. He'll come back though. Seems Russian politics doesn't end the way american politics ends (it probably ends with being shot) but anyone remember Medvedev?

I agree the protests here are a story, unless they were FAKE NEWS! (It was yuge. I saw it, melania and ivanka saw it...) but srsly, in general 1kiki does have a point. We don't seem to see a lot of posts about Buhari. A leader of an oil rich nation with a population larger than Russia, from which we get a great deal of our oil. Dogged by accusations of ties to terrorism, past coup attempts, involvement in the civil war, and crackdowns on protestors, silencing of critics, much like this story here. Honestly, I don't spend a lot of time thinking about Buhari. I think if they don't like him, they'll vote for someone else, but it's not really our business, except in the oil business. I actually think he's doing okay, it's a tough job. As for Putin, anh, if they don't like him, they'll elect someone else. Another thing about Russian politics, you can elect someone to any office and declare them the leader.

So sure, it's half story, half "but Russia"

Having been to a lot of US protests of this sort, I don't see anything unusual. I mean, being familiar with Russia, this really seems light for them. I don't see anything about Navalny being assassinated, the video wouldn't play. I saw he got 15 days in prison, probably for "re-education" but that said, you have to know a color revolution when you see one.

The school classroom thing, that's not at all bothersome. It's good. I don't think we're at this open-minded a level here.

Should Putin step aside? Eventually yes, but not to a CIA color revolution. If I were in Russia right now, I'd probably support him, at least over chaos. I'd say the same about Trump. But in a stable democratic way, yes, go ahead an float a candidate. Engage in a discussion. I know a lot of Russians sympathize with this general position, but to hear their arguments, they have an idea that the US is better than this, but we're actually worse. The Russian dissenters find a prevalence of national flags, the phrase "greatest nation on earth" to be totalitarian propaganda. If they came to the US, they'd see this sort of thing everywhere, every day, and would have since Reagan.

I see much more similar in this to us than I see different, and what I see that's different, they're a step more free than we are, and a step behind europe.

IMHO? Russia could solve this problem by deregulating their own media, so there were Russian sources that weren't pro-govt, so the people wouldn't be taking to color revolution positions if they opposed Putin. Allow a solid patriotic pro-Russian opposition, and you wouldn't have a CIA supported one.

For what it's worth, RT is a pretty good site. The whole Russian dialogue is pretty straightforward and honest. In comparison, CNN, etc, are echoing a hollow shell of an argument which comes down to damning Trump for not being HRC. All Russia needs is it's own FOX News, to counterbalance the mainstream voice, which, I would agree with the school principal, is the pro-Putin for fear of '17, USST, Tsars or Yeltsin. Srsly, name a Russian leader under which they had more freedom. Name a color revolution that ended in more freedom. There's not really any hope that this sort of activity will lead to more freedom. A solid opposition is what they need, and they will need it in the media and the Duma before they can elect a decent opposition candidate.

FBI probing whether Trump aides helped Russian intel in early 2016

CBS News has learned that U.S. investigators are looking into whether Trump campaign representatives had a role in helping Russian intelligence as it carried out cyberattacks on the Democratic National Committee and other political targets in March 2016.

This new information suggests that the FBI is going back further than originally reported to determine the extent of possible coordination. Sources say investigators are probing whether an individual or individuals connected to the campaign intentionally or unwittingly helped the Russians breach Democratic Party targets.

This is just a series of unsupported claims made by various parties. I categorize it as gossip.

Le Pen wanted millions more from Russia

By Andrew Rettman
BRUSSELS, 31. Mar, 11:07

Revelations that Marine Le Pen tried to borrow a further €3 million from Russia pose questions on Kremlin interference in the French vote.

Le Pen tried to borrow ... at her initiative. Was it 'from Russia?', or from a bank?
Quote:

Mediapart, a French investigative website, revealed on Friday (31 March) that Le Pen, the French anti-EU and far-right candidate, agreed to borrow the funds in order to finance her campaign.

very odd phrasing
Quote:

The websitepublished an internal document of her National Front party, showing that she and party chiefs on 15 June last year decided to borrow €3 million from Strategy Bank in Russia at a rate of 6 percent per year.

She and the party decided to borrow ... at their initiative. They took out an interest charging loan, not 'from Russia' but from a bank.
Quote:

It said the “purpose of the borrowed money” was “financing the electoral campaign”.

Mediapart also published a second National Front document, which said the funds were to be used for election “expenses” and were to be wired to a bank account opened in Le Pen’s name.

Le Pen, whose surprise meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Moscow last week caused a stir, declined to comment.

The party’s treasurer, Wallerand de Saint-Just, who told press last week that he was not asking Russia for more money, told Mediapart that the €3 million loan was “just a project, which did not have any follow-up”.

Mediapart did not say whether the National Front received the money and did not give information about Strategy Bank.

Perhaps because their information was unvetted.
Quote:

The revelations come after Le Pen and her father admitted last year to having previously borrowed €11 million from a different Russian bank.

Fears of Russian election-meddling in Europe were heightened after Moscow was accused

without evidence
Quote:

of having swayed the outcome of the US vote via hacking and media disinformation.

Le Pen is neck-and-neck in polls with the centrist, pro-EU candidate Emmanuel Macron for the first round of the presidential vote on 23 April.

Quote:

Speaking to EUobserver in an interview on Thursday, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, a Russian former oil chief who was jailed after trying to enter politics, said Putin saw Le Pen as a “realistic chance to destroy the EU”.

Quote:

Even if the EU could politically survive France leaving the bloc, as Le Pen wants it to, Khodorkovsky added that a French EU exit would, for Putin, also mean that “the EU would have no more nuclear weapons”.

Is 'the EU' a military organization with an army proper?
Quote:

France and the UK, the latter of which started EU exit talks this week, are the only nuclear-armed EU countries.

Frans Timmermans, the Dutch EU commissioner, also told the Spanish parliament on Thursday that Putin was using far-right parties to harm the EU.

“The reason why Putin supports the extreme right in Europe is because it weakens us and divides us,” he said. “A divided Europe means that Putin is the boss,” he added.

opinion made without evidence
Quote:

Putin told press in Moscow that his meeting with Le Pen was not an attempt to interfere in France. He also denied US election-meddling at a meeting with the Finnish and Icelandic presidents in Russia on Thursday.

Timmermans added that US intelligence services made the accusation for the sake domestic politics. “So what do we want to achieve? To terminate our diplomatic relations completely? To drive the situation to the level that it was at in the 1960s during the Cuban missile crisis? And where next?” he said at the meeting in Arkhangelsk, in north-west Russia.

Sauli Niinisto, the Finnish president, said it was wrong to think that global tension was increasing. “Very many of my European Union colleagues [are] visiting Moscow ... the dialogue is increasing, and that’s not tension, that’s getting rid of tensions”, he said.

Niinisto offered to convene a summit of Arctic leaders at which Putin could meet the new US president, Donald Trump, for the first time, in a bid to lower tensions further.

The Danish and Norwegian foreign ministers also participated in the Arkhangelsk meeting.

Le Pen didn't meet with Putin at Arkhangelsk, according to the story, though the wording is scrambled enough - and some of the English peculiar enough - to be unclear. According to the story, these people were at the meeting: Frans Timmermans the Dutch EU commissioner, Sauli Niinisto, the Finnish president, and the Danish and Norwegian foreign ministers.

Timmermans added that US intelligence services made the accusation for the sake domestic politics. “So what do we want to achieve? To terminate our diplomatic relations completely? None of it matters 1kiki. Russia is single handedly increasing military spending around the world by it's actions. Whether you deny them or not. And all those guns 1kiki, are pointed towards your beloved Russia. All those cyber capabilities, pointed right at Russia.

Russia's military budget, under 70 billion and dropping.

EU's military budget, 227 billion and because of Putin it is now rising.

United States military budget, last year, 522 billion, 2015's budget was 598 billion and Trump is pushing for it to go back to this amount this budget. And Putins' cyber attacks have woken our intelligence agencies and their budgets are being increased as well.

Predicted oil prices for the next two years does not rise above 55 dollars a barrel.

Thanks Putin, and get ready to duck.

I don't think about him at all. That's because I really don't care what he does unless Russian troops are at our borders. And by 'at our borders' I mean US/ Canadian, US/ Mexican, or the US seaboard ... and not Ukrainian, Yugoslavian, or Vietnamese.

I don't think it's the US's job to deal with Russia in the supposed interests of another country.

I didn't care back then that all the dominoes were going to fall in Vietnam, and I don't care what story is being flogged now.

Basically, I don't care.

Russia's the driving force behind the fake news Jack. Others have been successful at making money off it, but it's mainly a tool utilized to destabilize democracies. That means Facebook, Google, whomever, needs to understand that to block what Russia is doing. It's political news they need to mainly focus on Jack. It's news regarding institutions. You can't separate the two ( Russia, fake news ) as though they are not connected.

In other words, you should care deeply about what Russia is doing. With all the facts presented to you, you still doggedly refuse to condemn Russia for anything. I'm beginning to think there is something more there Jack. Are you really American?

No T. I'm Russian. I'm on Putin's payroll.

Putin has so much money to burn that they pay me to defend them to the audience of 6 members who still come to this site to debate politics.

You got me.

Bad analogy. A dirty bomb 30 feet away from where I sleep is something to be concerned about. I would have something to say if I knew my neighbors had a meth lab in their basement too.

What I think about Putin ...

Punking Oliver Stone and other gullible useful idiots worldwide to make them think Russia is actually fighting ISIS:

Vladimir Putin Punked The Hell Out Of Oliver Stone With Some Old Footage
The Russian president told the venerable auteur that the footage on his phone was the Russian air force kicking ass. (Spoiler: it wasn't.)

Legendary filmmaker Oliver Stone conducted a series of interviews with Russian President Vladimir Putin for an in-depth look at just what makes Putin tick.
Stone, the director of such films as JFK, Platoon, and Snowden, once said he believed that the 2015 revolution in Ukraine was a CIA plot, so it's easy to see why Putin agreed to sit down with him.

Stone, the director of such films as JFK, Platoon, and Snowden, once said he believed that the 2015 revolution in Ukraine was a CIA plot, so it's easy to see why Putin agreed to sit down with him.

In the trailer for the third episode, Putin shows Stone footage of what he says is "the work of our air force" against militants in Syria. "You wouldn't want to join ISIS if you saw that," Stone intones in the trailer. BUT, as it turns out, that footage on Putin's phone probably wasn't Russian at all. Instead, it seems it was as American as baseball, apple pie, and the Apache series of attack helicopter.

As a Facebook user noticed, and Russian-language outlet Meduza published, the video Stone was shown looked an awful lot like footage, posted in 2013, of an apparent 2009 US strike against the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Putin even dubbed Russian pilots' voices onto the US Army footage

lol Buzzfeed.

That's got to be the most laughably worst "news" source that anybody has posted in these threads to date.

I don't think Vox even considers buzzfeed respectable.

So why does Putin need to show Oliver Stone fake footage of "Russia fighting ISIS"?

Dearest kiki, as someone who has bought a few too many bridges from Vladimir Putin, it's probs not best for YOU to talk about other people's gullibility
